Giant Springs, Roe River and Fish Hatchery - Great Falls 2010 0725
Discovered by the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1805 and one of the largest freshwater springs in the world. This is the site of the Roe River, listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's shortest river. Giant Springs flows at a measured 7.9 millions gallons per hour or 193 million gallons of water per day. The water stays at a temperature of 54 degrees, and has been carbon dated to be about 3,000 years old.
The Fish Hatchery Program raises about 1.3 million fish annually. They are then distributed to areas within a 150-mile radius of the hatchery.
4K City Walks: Great Falls, Montana Residential Virtual Treadmill Walking Tour
We were up in Great Falls Montana for another job and we're going to get in a couple walks. This is the second of two. Great Falls is on the Missouri river and on the Lewis and Clark trail.
Great Falls MT, is a city in and the county seat of Cascade County, Montana, United States. The 2017 census estimate put the population at 58,638. The population was 58,505 at the 2010 census. It is the principal city of the Great Falls, Montana Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Cascade County and has a population of 82,278. Great Falls was the largest city in Montana from 1950 to 1970, when Billings surpassed it. Great Falls remained the second largest city in Montana until 2000, when it was passed by Missoula. Since then Great Falls has been the third largest city in the state.
Great Falls takes its name from the series of five waterfalls in close proximity along the upper Missouri River basin that the Lewis and Clark Expedition had to portage around over a ten-mile stretch; the effort required 31 days of arduous labor during the westward leg of their 1805–06 exploration of the Louisiana Purchase and to the Pacific Northwest Coast of the Oregon Country. Each falls sports a hydroelectric dam today, hence Great Falls is nicknamed the Electric City. Currently there are two undeveloped parts of their portage route; these are included within the Great Falls Portage, a National Historic Landmark.
The city is home to the C. M. Russell Museum Complex, the University of Providence, Great Falls College Montana State University, Giant Springs, the Roe River (claimed to be the world's shortest river), the Montana School for the Deaf and the Blind, the Great Falls Voyagers minor league baseball team, and is adjacent to Malmstrom Air Force Base. The local newspaper is the Great Falls Tribune.

9 things to do in Great Falls, Montana with kids - Lewis and Clark etc
We headed up to Great Falls, MT for several reasons. 1. Finn wanted to go to the Tae-Kwon-Do tournament. 2. We wanted to visit some online friends. 3. Melynda organized homeschool activities at the C. M. Russel museum and the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. 4. We HAD to go to the Sip-N-Dip Lounge and its famous mermaids. Of course there's a ton of other things to do in Great Falls. We saw a couple of other museums, some state parks, breweries, and bike rides and more. Check more in Melynda's blog.

I Travel: Montana - Glacier National Park - Helena - Great Falls (50 State Series)
Traveled to this wonderful and gorgeous state. The State of Montana is situated at the northern part of the US, and is part of the western mountain region. Traveled around June of 2018, and landed at the Helena Regional Airport.
Helena is the Capital city of the state. Top tourist spots are the Montana State Capitol, Historic museum (where a giant bull head skeleton structure is located), the Last Chance Gulch, Reeder’s Alley.
Drove 3 hours to reach the Glacier National Park Lodge from Helena. This National Park is the second most beautiful scenic park I have ever been to. Very relaxing and breathtaking views. Just be careful since this area is a bear country region.
Great Falls is another city in Montana. Visit the largest freshwater spring in the country at Great Springs Park, and see the amazing Great Falls yourself.

Lewis & Clark State Park
How many shades of green can you count? Lewis and Clark State Park is a great place to start.
This cool forested space east of Interstate 5 and south of Chehalis offers hiking and horseback riding through a rare stand of old-growth trees on the historic north spur of the Oregon Trail. The park provides an all-American camping experience, with fire circles, an amphitheater and horseshoe pits. Your horse can even camp with you at one of the park’s equestrian campsites.
Boundless enjoyment awaits children and families, on lawns that double as playing fields, on miles of trails amidst lush ferns, gnarled snags, nurse logs and in cathedral-like thickets of giant trees.
While buildings and kitchen shelters may be purely functional to the kids, adults and history buffs will appreciate these structures. Lewis and Clark State Park was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s, during the Great Depression, and examples of the characteristic CCC architecture can be found throughout the park.
Don’t forget to visit Jackson House State Park Heritage Site, just 2 miles to the north.
Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone National Park, USA in 4K (Ultra HD)
The Grand Prismatic Spring offers one of the most stunning views in the Yellowstone National Park. It is the largest pool in the park and the third in the world. It is located in the Midway Geyser Basin and its major feature is its amazing coloration, caused by bacteria, living on the edges of the mineral rich water. The pool is about 370 feet/113 m in diameter and is 121 feet/37 m deep. Several smaller springs are located in close proximity.
This video was shot from two locations: from the nearby hill at noon, and by the spring in the late afternoon.
Recorded September 2014 in 4K (Ultra HD) with Sony AX100.
