Glacier National Park Lodges 2019 updated Travel Guide
This is an update to a segment of my Glacier: The Hiker's National Park. It includes information of the forest fires which devastated the park in 2017 and 2018.
Glacier National Park RV Campground: Columbia Falls RV Park
Glacier National Park RV Campground: Columbia Falls RV Park:
Columbia Falls RV Park is a full service RV Resort and Campground located just minutes from the west entrance to Glacier National Park.
As the name suggests, the Columbia Falls RV Park is located right at the edge of the town of Columbia Falls in northwest Montana. Columbia Falls is a beautiful little laid-back mountain town which is big on recreation and hospitality.
It also happens to be The Gateway to Glacier National Park which means you will only be a few minutes away from all of the beauty and recreational opportunities that Glacier National Park has become known for.
The town of Columbia Falls is nestled up against the northern tip of the Swan Mountain Range, and the mighty Flathead River flows through the east end of town, just down the road from the RV park, and provides ample opportunities for fun and recreation like fishing, floating, swimming and boating.
Choosing the Columbia Falls RV Park and Cabins as the basecamp for your vacation to Glacier National Park provides you with many great advantages that you might not be able to find if you chose to stay at any of the other campgrounds or RV parks in the area.
Staying at Columbia Falls RV Park puts you right in the center of all that Columbia Falls has to offer, plus you are just a quick 20 minutes drive from the town of West Glacier and the most popular entrance to Glacier National Park.
Many of the guides and outfitters that service the park and surrounding area are located along the road between Columbia Falls and West Glacier, so if you are planing to do any whitewater rafting, or fishing, or horseback riding, or any helicopter or aerial tours of the park, staying in Columbia Falls will put you in the ideal spot to access all of Glacier National Parks greatest features and attractions.
It is pretty easy to see why the Columbia Falls RV Park is the clear winner and first choice when it comes to selecting your basecamp for your Glacier National Park vacation this year.

Fall Trip 2018: Jasper, Banff and Glacier National Park (US) - 4k UHD
Five day fall trip to Jasper National Park AB CA, Banff National Park AB CA and Glacier National Park MT, USA from Sep 20th - 25th 2018.
Trip Highlights:
Jasper National Park:
- Maligne Canyon
- Maligne Lake
- Athabasca Glacier Icewalk, Columbia Icefield
- Athabasca Falls
Banff National Park:
- Lake Moraine
- Lake Louise
- Peyto Lake Overlook
Calgary AB, Canada:
- Calgary Tower
Glacier National Park MT, USA
- Going to the Sun Road (GTTS)
- Bird Woman Falls
- Lunch Creek
- Wild Goose Island
- Jackson Glacier Overlook
- Trail of the Cedars
- Sun Point
- Sunrift Gorge
- Overlook near Highline Trail
- Logan Pass Visitor Center
One of the most beautiful Mountains, Lakes and water falls in the whole world, not just US/Canada (in my opinion). Lakes/waterfalls are easily accessible in Jasper and Banff National Parks. Going-to- the-Sun road in Glacier National Park has frequent overlooks/viewpoints to stop and take pictures.
Jasper vs Banff vs Glacier: Personally I think each NP is unique but I would choose Banff if I have to pick one. I have listed below why I would pick one NP over the other:
Banff NP:
-Massive Mountains and Glacial Lakes
- Ease of access to view points.
Jasper NP:
- Massive mountains
- Amazing waterfalls and canyons.
- Athabasca Glacier/Ice walk
Glacier NP MT:
- Peaks not as massive as Banff/Jasper NP but they are in the
same league.
- Unique glacier-carved mountains
- GTTS (Going-to-the-Sun road) with easy access and view points.
- Cheaper accommodations and many restaurants nearby
- Offers more trails
Tips:
- Please fill up your gas as soon as it goes below half tank near
Jasper. There is a gas station in Jasper but it closes early and
after that next gas station is more than 100 km away.
- These NP are huge (especially Jasper and Banff NP). Driving from
Jasper to end of Jasper NP can roughly take around 2 hours, so
plan accordingly and have your accommodations close by,
preferably at Jasper to visit Jasper NP and Banff/Canmore to visit
Banff NP.
- Prefer not to visit busy places e.g. Lake Louise, Moraine etc. on
week days as it can get too crowded.
- Keep your schedule somewhat flexible as weather can change
quickly and you should have other alternatives to visit.
- If you are planning to visit in September, keep in mind that it can
get really cloudy at the end of the month. Try to stay between 10th
and 18th Sep.
- Fall is great time to visit to beat the crowds.

US Highway 2 around Glacier National Park: to East Glacier Dashcam
Luv 2 Drivelapse? - Like for updates & great travel ideas
This drive begins at Columbia Falls, Montana, and follows US 2 eastbound, past the entrance to Glacier National Park at West Glacier, around the southern end of the park, to MT 49 at East Glacier Village. This road is the faster alternative to Going-to-the-Sun Road, and unfortunately during my visit in late June 2014, GTTS was not yet open.

Many Glacier Campground in Glacier National Park near Babb Montana has paved roads and is situated a stones through from the Swift Current Inn and gift shop. Supplies and food are available there. The campground formerly was all first come first served but now many of the sites can be reserved in advance during peak season. This policy may adjust in the near future as the policy has created a nightmare scenario where campers are showing up earlier and earlier to get a site for the evening (like 4am early!!).
The campground has a mix of private tent sites and larger RV sites and all are situated within a heavy shade forest. Bear boxes, picnic tables and fire rings at each site. Water spigots are dispersed around the grounds and fresh water sinks are available in the restrooms.
Bears are a problem at this campground so proper storage and handling of food and scented items is a must.
There are only 13 sites that can accommodate vehicle lengths up to 35 feet. Sites 88 through 102 are generator free.
A few group sites and hiker/ biker sites are available.
Many Glacier Campground has ample opportunities to view wildlife like bighorn sheep, moose, and bears. In fact the area is very popular for bear spotting, bring binoculars or a spotting scope to watch numerous bears along the large mountain to the north.
Many Glaciers is properly named as the location provides access to a hiking trail to one of the park's largest glaciers and views of many surrounding glaciers.

Fly Fishing in Glacier National Park
We brought a fly rod along on our family vacation to Glacier National Park and had several opportunities to do some fishing in multiple regions of the park. Not only did we get to experience some of the beautiful scenery of the Rocky Mountains but also caught several fish, including some native west-slope cutthroats! This was a trip I will never forget. Hope you enjoy the video!

RV TRIP TIP: Glacier National Park - Going to the Sun Road
One of our favorite RVing destinations in the U.S. is Glacier National Park, where you'll find one of the most spectacular scenic drives in the world: Going to the Sun Road.
The road itself is an engineering marvel, but the views are absolutely incredible. If you're afraid of heights, best to sit on the side of the car away from the edge. And don't even think about driving your RV up here. Leave it in one of the campgrounds!
We include a look at one of our favorite campgrounds in the park: Apgar, at the west entrance of Going to the Sun Road. We also take one of the greatest easy day hikes in the park, starting at Logan Pass and ending at iconic Hidden Lake and Bearhat Mountain. Even though we took the hike in early July, almost the entire trail was completely snow-covered!
As with every other time we've hiked to Hidden Lake, we saw mountain goats along the trail. We actually spotted a total of 7 of them that day!
If you haven't yet visited Glacier National Park, hopefully this quick overview of one of the most beautiful parts of the park will encourage you to add it to your bucket list.

Blanca Lake to Columbia Glacier Hike - Washington State
Beyond Blanca Lake is a wonderland of waterfalls, ice caves and polished rock faces, sculptured by the Columbia Glacier.
It can be reached by following the faint trail around the west side of Blanca Lake, and then rock hopping / bushwhacking up the west side of the valley.
Basic route finding and mountaineering skills are required, but the reward of visiting such a scenic and other-worldly place is well worth the effort!

Two Medicine entrance to Glacier National Park, MT (8-10-13)
This drive travels the 9 miles from the Route-49 intersection to the end of the road at Two Medicine Lake, in the southeastern corner of Glacier National Park. Unfortunately, I forgot to change the camera from wide-angle (used to film sunrise time lapses) to medium-angle, so the edges have a bit of a fish-eye effect and the hood of the car is visible. On the other hand, more mountains were in frame peripherally! The Two Medicine area of the park used to be much busier in the early years of the park (visitors got off the train in East Glacier, spent their first night at the Lodge, then rode horseback by trail to spend the next night at the Two Medicine Chalets before continuing on to Cut Bank and on through the park, with chalets built a day's ride apart). Nowadays, it doesn't bustle quite so much, but it's still a popular place to hike (on this day, we rode the tour boat to the foot of Two Medicine Lake and then hiked to Dawson Pass ... amazing!).
