Red Bus Tour, Glacier National Park, Montana, Part 1
We took the Red Bus All-Day Tour through Glacier National Park during our recent visit to Montana. Our tour departed from our hotel, the Glacier Park Lodge in East Glacier Park. Unfortunately, it was a very rain day so much of the mountains were hiding from us. However, even in the rain, the mountains and lakes below are just stunning! Most of all, I just loved the Red Bus! It is so cute!! I celebrated our special day by treating myself to a miniature one from the hotel Gift Shop! Just couldn't resist!! :) We also had an absolutely wonderful tour guide and bus full of great, fun people who all added so much to our enjoyment! If you are planning on taking a Red Bus tour and are wondering what it will be like on a rainy day, this video will give you a good idea. In part 1, we stopped at St. Mary's Lodge. In part 2 of this video, we stop at Many Glacier Hotel and travel over Going-To-The-Sun Road. I hope you enjoy this, find it helpful, and please subscribe to our channel, NVAFAM, so we can share more of our videos with you! Thanks!!! :)
Glacier Park Lodge - East Glacier Park, Montana
This video gives an overview of the Glacier Park Lodge in East Glacier Park Montana. This 100-years-old hotel is wonderful and located very close to the Amtrak Station in East Glacier Park. There are no TV's or Internet connection in the rooms, so everyone tends to hang out in the huge lobby areas, which I think is great!! Everyone is very friendly to each other, with people hanging out everywhere playing games and doing puzzles (provided by the hotel), chatting, eating, drinking, browsing the gift shop, and enjoying the great scenery. At night, they also have live music. Heather and Nolan played chess both against each other and others at the hotel who asked if they could play. It was really fun. They basically did this until our train arrived at midnight (late, as all Amtrak trains traveling out in this area are!). There is also a large restaurant and café, which includes a TV. We ate there, and I highly recommend the huckleberry ice cream and pudding! It was so unique and good, and you can only get find it in this area of the United States! We also took a full-day Red Bus Tour, which originated from the hotel. The tour was really fun, though it would have been even more spectacular if Mother Nature could have been cooperative! (it rained the entire day, and a long stretch of Going To the Sun Road was closed due to a recent June Blizzard!!). I loved the cute red bus. I had to get a replica one from the gift shop. :)
Red Bus Tour, Glacier National Park, Montana, Part 2
This is part 2 of our videos on The Red Bus All-Day Tour of Glacier National Park in Montana. Even on a rainy day, this area is quite stunning! In this video, we start out stopping at Many Glacier Hotel for lunch (great place for a scenic lunch!), followed by a drive on Going-to-the Sun Road. They had just had a blizzard (even though this is the end of June!), so we could only travel on about the first 13 miles of the road. For fans of the movie, The Shining, this is the road Jack Nicholson is driving on during the opening scene, where he is on his way for his interview at The Overlook Hotel. You can check out our video of The Timberline Lodge in Oregon, which was used in the film for the outside of the hotel. We hope you enjoy this video! Many Glacier Hotel - Glacier National Park, Montana, USA
As we finished our two day stay at Yellowstone National Park we headed up to Montana to visit Glacier National Park and stay 3 nights at Many Glacier Hotel. I read about the area and hotel online but it could not do it justice to how our experience was when we first set our eyes on Glacier National Park as we drove inside the park on our way to Many Glacier Hotel. Then getting to the hotel and seeing the scenery was just fantastic. This was at the beginning of July and to see the snow mixed in with the green all over the mountains made it more beautiful. I did not know how much snow would be around at the beginning of July and I was surprised by how much was still there. The Hotel was very rustic and the feel inside was very comfortable. There are no tv's, no cell phone use or pc's to use. It made it more enjoyable in my opinion because you could relax inside or out and just enjoy the scenery to its fullest all around the area and not be bothered by electronic gadgets :-)
When we were there the weather was very unpredictable with rain at times and then bright sunshine. The clouds coming over the mountains made for a perfect setting also. It was in the 50's to high 60's for our stay and we had one awesome day of just sunshine when we went hiking around Swiftcurrent Lake.
This area is VERY remote and it adds to your stay here at Many Glacier Hotel. We did see wildlife, a Moose family, Mountain Goats, Prairie Dogs and even a Grizzly Bear through (binoculars) and even then was hard to make out.. but we were not dissapointed in NOT seeing that bear any closer..
I'll have two other videos, one of our hike around Swiftcurrent Lake and another from our Red Bus Tour we took for a day. Don't miss either video because they are spectacular viewing, especially the Red Bus Tour up to Logan Pass and the Continental Divide.. WOW!
Here is some more info on Many Glacier Hotel from Wikipedia:
Many Glacier Hotel is a historic hotel located within Glacier National Park, Montana, USA, on the east shore of Swiftcurrent Lake. The building is designed as a series of chalets, up to four stories tall, and stretches for a substantial distance along the lakeshore. The building has a Swiss alpine theme both on the outside and on the inside. The foundation is made of stone, with a wood superstructure. The outside is finished with brown-painted wood siding, and the window framing and balconies have wood sawn in Swiss jigsawn patterns. On the inside, the four-story lobby is surrounded by balconies, whose railings are patterned after Swiss designs.
Construction began at Many Glacier Hotel in 1914 and was finished in just 1 year on July 4, 1915. The Great Northern Railway was establishing a series of hotels and backcountry chalets in the park and the Many Glacier Hotel was the Gem of the West. This was part of an effort by Louis Hill, president of the Great Northern Railway and son of James J. Hill, to establish Glacier National Park as a destination resort and to promote the area as the American Alps. To this end, Hill chose a Swiss chalet style for the hotels and chalets. The Glacier Park Lodge (previously known as the Glacier Park Hotel) and the Many Glacier Hotel were intended to be the core structures, while the chalets and campgrounds were sited in the backcountry within an easy day's ride or hike from one of the hotels or another chalet. The chalets were intended to entice visitors to leave the hotels and see the backcountry in a more rustic manner. These chalets were especially used during the early 1900s when the Hotel first opened, and the main attraction in the park was horseback riding. In the early days of Many Glacier Hotel only the rich and famous could afford to stay in this beautiful structure and the rustic chalets throughout the area.
Today, the hotel still maintains its historic character, in part by not placing televisions in guest rooms. Most rooms either have views of Swiftcurrent Lake or the surrounding mountain scenery. Facilities include the Ptarmigan Dining room, the Swiss Room Lounge and Interlaken Lounge, Heidi's Snack Shop, and Grizzly Track Traders Gift Shop. The hotel is a contributing property in the National Historic Landmark, Great Northern Railway Buildings district. The main attractions in the area include hiking, boat rides or rentals, or simply enjoying the western environment that Many Glacier provides.

RV TRIP TIP: Glacier National Park - Going to the Sun Road
One of our favorite RVing destinations in the U.S. is Glacier National Park, where you'll find one of the most spectacular scenic drives in the world: Going to the Sun Road.
The road itself is an engineering marvel, but the views are absolutely incredible. If you're afraid of heights, best to sit on the side of the car away from the edge. And don't even think about driving your RV up here. Leave it in one of the campgrounds!
We include a look at one of our favorite campgrounds in the park: Apgar, at the west entrance of Going to the Sun Road. We also take one of the greatest easy day hikes in the park, starting at Logan Pass and ending at iconic Hidden Lake and Bearhat Mountain. Even though we took the hike in early July, almost the entire trail was completely snow-covered!
As with every other time we've hiked to Hidden Lake, we saw mountain goats along the trail. We actually spotted a total of 7 of them that day!
If you haven't yet visited Glacier National Park, hopefully this quick overview of one of the most beautiful parts of the park will encourage you to add it to your bucket list.

Glacier National Park
Glacier National Park is the center of one of the largest and most intact ecosystems in North America. The views from the cliff-strewn Going-to-the-Sun Road over the Continental Divide make a visit worthwhile, but the experience from inside a car or one of the Park's famous Red Jammer buses is just the tip of the icefield. Glacier's one million acres of turquoise alpine lakes, mountain goats and grizzly bears, craggy peaks, and of course, glaciers are almost guaranteed to leave visitors speechless.
