Glen Helen Nature Preserve | Yellow Springs, OH
Glen Helen Nature Preserve, located in Yellow Springs, OH and adjacent to John Bryan State Park has 20+ miles of trails that are jam-packed with points of interest. The trails featured in this video are the Inman and Talus trails, which contain most of the sights found in the preserve.
The Inman Trail starts at the Trailside Museum next to the preserve's main parking lot, then descends about 100 feet into a valley and along Yellow Creek. About .25 miles in, hikers will come across a path that leads to Pompey's Pillar, which is an approx. 20 foot hoodoo (a boulder on top of a thinner pillar). There is a small limb of about 40 feet.
The next point of interest that hikers will come across is The Grotto, which is just as the name suggests. The small concave area is covered with moss and dirt as water from the Yellow Spring continually runs over it.
After a short climb, hikers will then encounter the Yellow Spring. The clear, cool water rushes out of stone and gradually down a slope towards The Grotto. The stone in the spring has turned a orange-yellow color over time, from deposits from the water.
A brief hike westward on the Inman trail leads to the Cascades, a beautiful waterfall under a bridge. This section of the trail also offers gorgeous views of Birch Creek and the ledges that run along it.
The Talus Trail shoots off of the Inman Trail, taking hikers southward along a set of ledges that rest at the top of the Yellow Creek valley. This is a short hike of about .3 miles, and offers a fabulous view of the ledges and a nice overlook of the valley.
Another plus about visiting Glen Helen Nature Preserve is that it is close to downtown Yellow Springs, with plenty of dining opportunities.

Hey guys!
Here is my first cinematic video while in Ohio. Two good friends of mine invited me for an impromptu hike this morning and I jumped on it. I love the outdoors, hiking, and obviously, videography; so I wasn't going to turn this opportunity down. We went to Yellow Springs and visited this BEAUTIFUL park. The weather was a nice 55 degrees which just made the trip even more fun. We got lost along the way, but ultimately covered all the spots we were hoping for. For this video, I used my GoPro Hero 6 Black and my DJI Spark for my river shots. Thanks for checking it out and I can't wait to show you guys what's next!!

Riding Powerline & Abracadabra | John Bryan State Park | Yellow Springs, OH
John Bryan State Park is located in Yellow Springs, OH, in the southwest corner of the state. The road trip from Northeast Ohio takes between 2 and 3 hours; a long trek, without a doubt, but the park offerings make it fully worth it. The hiking trails provide exquisite views of the Little Miami river and the surrounding gorge. Moreover, the park has nearly 11 miles of single track mountain bike trails, which are maintained by the Miami Valley Mountain Bike Association.
The trails are mostly devoid of roots and rocks, and have little elevation change. This makes the trail perfect for beginners to get used to riding off road and through the woods. The lack of rugged terrain also means the trail can be ridden fast by more experienced riders. The trail also has several optional man-made features for those looking for a more challenging ride.
The 12 miles of trails are divided in to 6 sections: Powerline (2.2 mi), Abracadabra (2 mi), Upper Great Scott (2 mi), Great Scott Loop (2.1 mi), Frankenlight Loop (2.2 mi), and Lower Great Scott (0.5 mi). The sections depicted in this video are Powerline and Abracadabra.

A Winter's Introduction From Glen Helen Nature Preserve
Introduction video filmed at Glen Helen Nature Preserve in Yellow Springs, Ohio, on 2/6/2010. We had just had 6 inches of snow the night before, so the trees were covered with icey snow. Don't miss the photos at the end of the video, as well! Music during photos is Maybe I'll Fall in Love, produced by my dear friend and most excellent guitarist, John Behling.

Hiking Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve | Yellow Springs, OH
Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve is located in Yellow Springs, OH. Its trails (2.5 miles) take hikers along the Little Miami River, providing views of a narrow canyon that forms a channel of the river, several waterfalls, imposing cliffs, unique rock formations, and breathtaking overlooks of the gorge.
The Narrows Trail is a hike along the north rim of Clifton Gorge. It provides a view of the Little Miami River as it rapidly flows through a narrow channel made of limestone. This hike has little elevation change, and the terrain is mostly flat and hardened clay, with little exposed roots or rocky surfaces, which makes for an easy hike.
The Gorge Trail descends several hundred feet into Clifton Gorge and follows the Little Miami River westward, providing an up close view of the cliffs and other rock formations that make Clifton Gorge a such a unique and beautiful place. Hikers descend into the gorge by stair case, and face more challenging terrain for the approx. 1 mile hike, with exposed roots, rocky surfaces, and regular changes in elevation. The 200 foot, steep ascent out of the gorge is nearly a straight shot, and the surface is rocky nearly the whole way up, making the climb moderately challenging.
Clifton Gorge Nature Preserve is adjacent to John Bryan State Park, so the two areas could both be visited in a single day. In fact, the Gorge Trail of the Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve connects to several of the trails in John Bryan State Park.
