Healing Springs, Blackville SC
A must-visit place while you're staying at Barnwell State Park. Just a few miles up the road, north of Blackville. A natural spring that has provided pure, healing water to South Carolinians for centuries. The last owner, in 1944 deeded the property to God to guarantee the water would be available free of charge for future generations. A remarkable place. Pack up a few plastic or glass jugs and pay this spring a visit.

Gods Acre Healing Springs near Charleston, SC in Blackville
This place is in Blackville, SC. It is very near the Barnwell State Park if you will be camping. There are two good places to eat in town. One is on the corner where you turn to go to God's Acre. They sell sandwiches and hotdogs. They also sell empty jugs if you forgot to bring something to collect water in. The other place to eat is an Amish Restaurant called Miller's Bread Basket. If you are in Blackville, you can't miss it. There is only one block of businesses! They have delicious meals at Miller's. There is also a Subway or something on the backside of the block. If you dont have time to read the blue sign, this is what it says: According to tradition, the Indians reverenced the water for its healing properties as a gift from the Great Spirit. They led the British wounded to their secret waters during the American Revolution and the wounded were healed. This historical property has been deeded to GOD for public use. Please revere GOD by keeping it clean.
God's Acre at Healing Springs, SC
I recently took the family out to God's Acre at Healing Springs, SC.
If you are not from the South Carolina Lowcountry, you might not have heard about Healing Springs, better known as God's Acre, but then again, maybe you have. You see, this place draws alot of visitors and tourists as well as droves of local folks who make the weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly trek to Healing Springs, just outside of Blackville, SC on Hwy 3, heading north, to fill up their water jugs with the legendary natural healing springs water.
The healing waters there are truly legendary, and are now a part of the history of the area. The story is told of a Revolutionary soldier who was in the area fighting with his regiment. He was shot, along with some other soldiers, and was left for dead. The legend is told that Native Americans took the soldier to the waters of the healing springs area, and after the soldier recovered, he returned to his regiment in Charleston, SC. His fellow soldiers were truly shocked, not having any hope that he could have even survived! He told them about the healing waters, which helped to heal him, and how the Indians in the area revered the waters for their healing.
The land for Healing Springs is actually deeded to God, and that is why it is now called God's Acre. With a true story behind the healing springs, your heart will be warmed when you go there and gaze across the small flowing stream of Healing Springs, where someone has erected a 5 or 6 foot cross, with John 3:16 written on it. This land truly belongs to the Lord, and the water is offered free to all who come.

Continuing our road trip in a loop.........we started in Charleston, went to Cottageville, stopped at Givhans Ferry State Park and then went to Bee City. After that we headed to Blackville and went through Bamberg and Denmark. In Blackville, we stopped at God's Acre Healing Springs and Miller's Bread Basket. After that, we went in a different direction to loop back to Charleston. From Blackville, we stopped at Barnwell State Park and drove through Olar, Ehrhardt, Lodge and Walterboro. In Walterboro, we ate some delicious pizza. From there, we went through Cottageville and back to Charleston. I was utilizing a paper map to find backroads to get there and back........... I did not use GPS because it would send me on the quickest route which would have been interstate highways.

Lake Edgar Brown Fishing Pier
Officials with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) gathered with local tourism and legislative leaders on June 6, 2018 to dedicate a newly constructed fishing pier at Lake Edgar Brown in Barnwell, one of the 18 fishing lakes in the agency’s State Lakes Fishing program.
State Representative and Barnwell native Lonnie Hosey was on hand to cut the ceremonial ribbon adorning the handicapped accessible pier. SCDNR Director Alvin Taylor credits Rep. Hosey with taking the initiative to work towards getting the new amenity placed at this popular community recreation spot.
