The Gold Museum is located in the mountainous town of Jingua Rock (Jinguashi) in Ruifang Township, New Taipei City. With plenty of historical, humanities and natural heritage, the park lays special emphasis on heritage preservation and sustainable development.
In addition to enjoying the unique geological and natural sights here, visitors of the park will have better understanding of the mining history and community culture of Jingua Rock (Jinguashi).
It is an interesting place for history lovers to visit and one gets a good introduction to the prosperous past of this now quiet town. Of course, it's a must-visit for gold lovers of any age and an activity not to be missed is that of attempting to lift the 220kg gold bar. It's been said that if anyone can lift it, it is theirs to bring home!
Visitors who want a memorable souvenir can also get a plate with sand, learn how to wash, pan, filter and then, pour the remaining contents into a small bottle. So, how much gold dust/flakes you get depends on how lucky you are!

This is a continuation of our Taxi Tour of Taiwan. We Stopped off at a short walking distance at the Jinguashi Gold Eco Park. We walked to the Gold Museum to see the history of gold mining and touch a golden nugget. After that we got some lunch at the Delicious Mineworker's Lunch Box restaurant.

Gold Ecological Park (黃金博物園區)
Jinguashi (金瓜石), located in the Ruifang District of New Taipei City, is famous for its gold and copper mines. Situated between the mountains and the coastline, Jinguashi boasts exceptionally beautiful scenery as well as an abundance of historical relics from the erstwhile mining days, making it an ideal tourist spot in northern Taiwan.
The New Taipei City Gold Museum (新北市立黃金博物館), formerly known as the Gold Ecological Park, is a museum of the gold mining industry in Ruifang District, New Taipei, Taiwan.[3][1] The Gold Museum is an open-air museum consisting of several buildings and sites.
The Gold Museum is located in the mountainous town of Jingua Rock (Jinguashi) in Ruifang Township, New Taipei City. With plenty of historical, humanities and natural heritage, the park is the first ecology museum in Taiwan. It lays special emphasis on heritage preservation, sustainable development; old buildings reuse as well as localized operations aimed at promoting regional development. In addition to enjoying the unique geological and natural sights here, visitors of the park will have better understanding of the mining history and community culture of Jingua Rock (Jinguashi). Jingua Rock (Jinguashi) is ready to create a fresh golden legend with the participation of local residents who together will forge the glamour of this land.

On the other side of the mountain is Jinguashi. Although originally this was a gold mining town, later on copper mines were also discovered here. Qitang Road is the biggest shopping street in Jinguashi, selling a lot of sundry goods. In contrast to Jiufen, a place that has recovered its old-time appeal, Jinguashi has kept to its original elements. Jiufen is a bustling tourist attraction. But just two or three years ago Jinguashi took the step of reconstructing the Gold Museum. To encourage community development, the village is building up a new program that includes exploration tours or country vacations. Right now, the Gold Museum is the centerpiece of Jinguashi, and many people look at Jinguashi differently now because of the museum. The Japanese set up many facilities and dorms when they came here to mine gold during the colonial period. 60 years have passed since they left, and some have been left in ruins while others survived the ravages of time. Thanks to private and government action, the Gold Museum was built to protect these precious historic and cultural heirlooms. With the splendor of the city of gold now little more than a flash in the memory, Jiufen and Ginquashi, after decades of emptying the mineral ores, awakened to a whole new look, and they are re-inviting the world to discover new treasures in this romantic gold-mining and mountain town culture.
