Goldfield Old Mining Town - FULL VIDEO TOUR (Goldfield, Nevada)
Goldfield, Nevada! This once used to be a thriving town, but once the mines dried up, very little is left! We ate in the local cafe and met the owners of the radio station while visiting. They invited us back to have a tour of the radio station, it was a really fun experience! We will definately stop by next time we pass by!
Goldfield is an unincorporated community and the county seat of Esmeralda County, Nevada, United States. It is a census-designated place (CDP), with a resident population of 268 at the 2010 census, down from 440 at the 2000 census. It is located 247 miles (398 km) southeast of Carson City, along U.S. Route 95.
Goldfield was a boomtown in the first decade of the 20th century due to the discovery of gold — between 1903 and 1940, Goldfield's mines produced more than $86 million. Much of the town was destroyed by a fire in 1923, although several buildings survived and remain today, notably the Goldfield Hotel, the Consolidated Mines Building (the communications center of the town until 1963), and the schoolhouse. Gold exploration continues in and around the town today.

Goldfield
Goldfield is one of the best examples of a boom to bust gold rush town. Located 26 miles south of Tonopah, Nevada, Goldfield was founded in 1902 when gold was discovered in the Grandpa mining district. This was a rare post 1900 major gold discovery in Nevada. Some people believe the town's name, Grandpa, meant the camp was the granddaddy of all gold camps. The elected officials changed the name to Goldfield in 1903 because they thought it would be easier to promote a town named Goldfield than Grandpa.

Getting to know Goldfield, NV
This has been something that I have always wanted to do since the first moment I drove into Goldfield on a day trip to Reno. It honestly creeped the heck out of us that my friend refused to stop. It was that very unnerving feeling that left me curious and excited to find out more of this ghost town. A few years later I have been very lucky to have the opportunity to do so for my documentary class. I cannot explain to you how kind the folks from Goldfield were to my friends and I during these trips. I simply wanted to put something together that had an inside perspective of the town and perhaps make you want to stop by and check it out yourself! It really has so much history to it that it is virtually impossible to cover it all. Every inch of that town practically has its own story to tell. I have spent an unorthodox amount of time, money and oh lord hundreds of hours editing this, that I have to finally just let it be and hope its perfect in its own way. I have to once again thank my friends for baring with me for more than 300 miles in the car and making them walk for copious amount of time in order to get things perfect. Also to my friends Malek and Carl in Goldfield, without these folks this would have never been possible.

Haunted Goldfield NV Hotel (2002)
n the almost ghost town of Goldfield, Nevada is the historic and reportedly very haunted Goldfield Hotel. The town of Goldfield was born when gold was discovered in 1902 and within just a few short years, it became the largest city in Nevada, as millions of dollars in ore were extracted from area mines. Like other cities, whose only reason for being was its mining industry, when the ore played out, so did the town. In addition to its numerous saloons, the city once boasted three newspapers, five banks, a mining stock exchange, and a population of nearly 35,000.
However, just eight years after Goldfield was founded, the volume of ore began to decrease and many of its residents began to move on to more prosperous claims.
By 1920, the gold was almost gone and the town was reduced to just about 1,500 people. Three years later, a devastating fire wiped out 27 blocks of homes and businesses. Today, this once thriving city supports a population of less than 500, but still provides a number of views of its prosperous past, with its centerpiece being the Goldfield Hotel. [ via: ]

Goldfield Nevada
My unedited drive Southbound through Goldfield, NV on Monday, June 6th, 2011. It's as close as you come to a ghost town without being a ghost town. If it wasn't on the main road from Las Vegas to Reno it probably wouldn't even be what it is. A real shame, too, because it's a neat place with a lot of history. I drive through there once a year or so, and nothing ever seems to move.

Goldfield Ghost Town
This is a video of the Goldfield Ghost Town. The town is a replica of what used to be one of Arizona's largest cities. Now, the town's remains are use to teach about the Old West's mining history. They also offer the Apache Trail Tours, which consists of two different tours for different time periods. We were fortunate enough to have Gnarley as our tour guide on our hour long desert tour. The mountains at the end of the video are the Superstition Mountains.
