Guan Yu Shrine-3 15.1.2016 inauguration / Koh Samui / flown with my drone
Lamai Guan Yu shrine 關羽
The reasons for Koh Samui’s blossoming popularity as a holiday destination for international travellers are numerous. Besides its wonderful beaches and non-stop sunshine, the southern Thai island boasts exciting nightlife, the opportunity of dining on dishes fit for gourmands and a collection of unique tourism draws.
There are several inimitable temples and religious shrines on Koh Samui. The most famous of these is Wat Phra Yai, or in English, Big Buddha Temple. Lamai Guan Yu shrine is the most recent addition to the island’s sightseeing destinations. Work on the shrine is ongoing, but once it is completed this temple complex may become as well known as the Big Buddha statue’s beatific smile.
From Lamai, Guan Yu shrine is just a few kilometres south down the coast in Hua Thanon. The shrine is the project of local entrepreneur Khun Virach Pongchababnapa, who is also the driving force behind top Lamai accommodation venue, the Pavilion Samui Villas & Resort. The shrine is a celebration of Chinese heritage and is dedicated to Guan Yu, a legendary warrior who died almost 2,000 years ago.
The interior of the main hall at the shrine is decorated with golden murals featuring Chinese calligraphy, fabulous dragons and other assorted images. Ornamental prayer drums and banners hang down from the ceiling and generally festoon the whole interior. The overall outlook is of gaiety and lavish ornamentation.
Old photographs and portraits of ethnic Chinese settlers who lived out their lives on Koh Samui are interspersed with the decorations. The descendants of the pioneers have been encouraged to deposit the pictures as well as documents and even voice recordings of their ancestors at the shrine of Guan Yu. Khun Virach says he hopes the items will help preserve the history of Chinese people on Koh Samui for posterity.
Outside the shrine, a massive copy of Guan Yu’s head offers a guiding landmark to visitors travelling down Route 4169 from Chaweng and Lamai. The effigy has a red face, which seems to radiate anger, and sits like an avenging force above the shrine complex.
When Lamai Guan Yu shrine officially opened to the general public in 2013, some Koh Samui tour operators added it to their itineraries. Guan Yu shrine is an easy half-day outing from Lamai. It takes around 10 minutes by hired motorcycle or car. The ubiquitous red songthaew taxis are an alternate option for those who do not want to drive.
Guan Yin Shrine 900 year old statue Chinatown Bangkok
The Guan Yin Shrine is surely one of Chinatown's most colorful attractions. Guan Yin is the Chinese Goddess of Mercy, and her 900-year-old statue stands on the altar inside the shrine. This must-see tourist attraction is free and well worth the visit.

Tai Chi Health
This daily practice of Tai chi will enhance your mental capacity to deal with the stresses of every day life. Qigong or chi gong is practiced for this reason.
The movements will strengthen your muscles and joints and improve your balance and co-ordination externally. As you master breathing you will become more aware of your bodies natural systems and begin to balance and control your respiration and circulation internally.
Meditating while balancing your body internally and externally will lead to a balanced mind. Your memory will be better, you will pick things up quicker and the decisions you make in your life will be easier. Researchers have found that Tai Chi practice shows favorable effects on the promotion of balance control, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness. Tai Chi has stood the test of time, millions upon millions of people practice Tai Chi to keep themselves young in body and mind and have been doing so for thousands of years.
The slower and longer you practice the more beneficial it is. Play around with the short form like the 8 step to begin with to build strength and understanding, before doing the full 24 yang form.
How do I know I’m doing it right?
Your hands and body should feel warmer if not hotter when you have done the movements for a while. You may feel achy the day after training when you first begin. Later you will feel less achy as you progress.
What is Tai Chi? (Also known as Taiji)
There are 5 styles of Tai Chi forms. Yang, Chen, Sun, Wu, Ng.
Tai chi chuan is a slow motion, moving meditative exercise for relaxation, health and self-defence. Now a days most people practice the Yang style for the health benefits. Originally from China and designed for combat, Tai Chi has gained enormous popularity in America and throughout the rest of the world for its health benefits and competitions. However many few are able to Master the combat side and rear to see Masters who can apply it in real time.
Tai Chi chuan or also known as Taijiquan was originated by a Shaolin monk ‘Chan San Feng’, while studying in the Taoist monasteries on Wudang Mountain. For more info on the history please visit our website:
Yin and Yang
According to Chinese philosophy, yin and yang are the two forces that generate chi. They are seen as opposites: yin is feminine and yang is masculine. But neither can exist without the other. And together they represent the perfect harmony that underpins all creation. The balance between yin and yang is never static.

Kung Fu Master Fights Xu Xiaodong For 30 Million - MMA vs Kung Fu
Tian Ye, our Kung Fu Master finally fought Xu Xiaodong, our Chinese MMA Mad Dog. Let's see how this Kung Fu Master did in his fight against the outspoken Chinese MMA fighter (搏击狂人). This fight was under kickboxing rules, in our observation. There was no ground fighting. Let's see which fighter was the better striker. 田野 is sometimes known as the 青岛里合腿, meaning the inside kick master of Qingdao. Let's see if he uses any kicks during the match. Jerry and Rob bring you running commentary on this fight that took place in China in January. The rules were (according to online sources), if the Master won, he got 30 million from a Chinese rich person, and if he lost, he would still get 3 million. Looks like some millionaire in China just really wants to see Xu Xiaodong get into fights. Talk to you guys in the comments. For those of you who want to search in Chinese, Xu Xiaodong is 徐晓冬. Tian Ye is 田野. Would you take this fight for that much money? Pull a Mayweather, so to speak. Also, 2020 update: Tian Ye might have overstated how much he was paid to take on Xu Xiaodong and represent TCMA! Just remember that when you're watching!
Also, a lot of you mentioned in the comments that the Kung Fu master bandaged up after the injury looks like #birdbox so I'm going to use the hashtag #birdboxkungfu to be funny XD
