72 Foot Tall Japanese Floats - Goshogawara Tachi Neputa Matsuri
The small town of Goshogawara in Aomori Prefecture in Northern Japan puts on the Tachi Neputa festival which has some really tall floats ranging from 12 meters to 22 meters.
The floats are made of washi - hardened Japanese paper - over a bamboo framework. The floats depict scenes and characters from Japanese and Chinese history and legends.
At the end of the parade procession, a motley group of partiers follow blowing whistles, dancing, waving fans, and shouting.
This was my fourth night in Aomori Prefecture while on my matsuri (Japanese festival) vacation.

I will share a little secret with you, yes the Goshagaware Tachineputa is much smaller and less famous than the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri, but you know what, this festival and its museum is by far the best lantern floats festival of the region and much more interesting than the Aomori Nebuta!!!
Taking place in Goshogarawa between august 4th and 8th, the Goshagaware Tachineputa features some massive 23m tall and 19 ton parade floats that roam around the tiny little streets of Goshogawara with dancers all cheering and shouting “Yattemare! Yattemare!”.
The story goes apparently back to 1907 until WWII where landowners decided to compete with each other on whom would make the tallest and most beautiful neputas. It is only after retrieving some lost schematics and pictures in 1993 that the city of Goshogawara decided to revive the Tachineputa.

Le Goshogaware Tachineputa prend place à Goshogawara entre le 4 et le 8 Août, et présente une parade de créations de quelques 23 mètres de haut pour 19 tonnes qui défilent dans les minuscules rues avec ses danseurs radieux qui cirent “Yattemare ! Yattemare !”.
Son’histoire nous emmène en 1907 jusqu’à la seconde guerre mondiale, où les riverains décidaient alors de se défier les uns et les autres sur lesquels fabriquerait les plus belles neputas. Ce n’est qu’après avoir retrouvé des schémas et des photos en 1993 que la ville de Goshogawara décida de ressuciter l’événement de Tachineputa.

Tachineputa' is the big festival of Goshogawara city. In this annual festival, three 23m high lantern floats walk through in streets. And three 18m high lantern floats walk, too.

Tachineputa festival is a one of the four largest festivals of the Tsugaru region held during the summer time.
The massive Tachineputa parade through the city of Goshogawara while carriers and dancers shout “Yattemare! Yattemare!”

りんご娘が今回訪れたのは立佞武多の館。立佞武多祭りに出陣する大型立佞武多を常時格納・観覧できるほか、新作立佞武多の製作体験、津軽の民工芸の製作体験、五所川原ネプタのお囃子の練習など様々なイベントが行われる施設です。

The Goshogawara Tachineputa Festival (五所川原立佞武多祭り Goshogawara Tachineputa Matsuri) is a Japanese summer festival which takes place every August in Goshogawara, Aomori Prefecture, Japan. It is known as one of the four largest festivals in the Tsugaru region of Japan, along with the Aomori Nebuta Festival, the Hirosaki Neputa Festival, and the Kuroishi Yosare Festival. The Goshogawara Tachineputa Festival is notable for its large tachineputa floats, which are much taller than those found in the Aomori and Hirosaki Festivals. The tachineputa floats stand at 23 meters in height and weigh 19 tons. The start of the festival is marked with a fireworks show on August 3, with the parade beginning on August 4 and continuing through August 8th.
