Texas withdraws from refugee resettlement program
AUSTIN, Texas (WKRC) - Texas has formally stopped helping the United States government provide aid and services to refugees, citing alleged security concerns.
Gov. Greg Abbott said last week that Texas would withdraw from the federally-funded Refugee Resettlement Program unless the state's demands for stricter refugee vetting were met.
Friday, Abbott said federal authorities didn't meet those demands and announced Texas' withdrawal.
Kansas and New Jersey have already withdrawn.

We have today filed a lawsuit which tests the power of the Federal Government and of the President of the United States to hold whomever he chooses simply because he decides that he does not like them or simply because he decides he wants to hold them indefinitely without any legal authority to do so.

What this case is about is to ensure that hatred does not overcome human right. What we are asking for the British nationals is exactly what the Americans are going to get if they were over in Afghanistan. And we all know that John Walker Lindh (Editor's note Walker Lindh is an American captured by US forces and their Afghan allies after fighting in Northern Afghanistan) is going to receive a full trial, a fair trial in the United States and we are merely asking that citizen's of the United State's closest ally, Great Britain, receive the same treatment.

These basic gut rights, the rights to due process, the right to a lawyer, the right to a hearing, the right not to be sent to jail indefinitely until someone decides they don't like you or now you can go. Those rights apply to everyone and should apply to everyone and that is what this case tests.

What we do when we believe that people have done something wrong in this country is that you prosecute them. That's what we are doing with Zacaria Moussaoui (Editor's note: Moussaoui is the so-called 20th hijacker), in the Eastern District of Virginia, there is a process going forward that will afford Mr Moussaoui the fully panoply of rights under the United State's Constitution, that's what they are doing with Mr Lindh. They believe that he did something wrong, the brought him here, they are going to try him in front of a jury of his peers. If you believe they did something wrong, start a process. Don't hold them in incommunicado.

There is no question that simply because we are asserting this lawsuit that the alternative is for them to release him. STORYLINE:
A lawsuit involving prisoners held at the US Navy base in Cuba was filed on Tuesday in a federal court in Washington.
The suit demands lawyers access to three men, two British and one Australian, captured with fighters for al-Qaida and the Taliban in Afghanistan.
Speaking in front of the US District Court, the men's lawyers said that they are being held illegally since they're being denied a fundamental right of judicial review.
The attorneys say they were asked to file the lawsuit by the men's families.

Florence's top sustained wind speeds dropped from a high of 140 mph to 105 mph early Thursday, reducing Florence from a Category 4 to a Category 2 hurricane. But forecasters warned that the widening storm -- and its likelihood of lingering around the coast day after day after day -- will bring surging ocean water and torrential rain.
North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper said he knows many people are watching the changing storm predictions and categories, and he's concerned because some are even saying that North Carolina is getting a break.

The Largest Oil Rig in The World
Perdido is the deepest floating oil rig (platform) in the world at a water depth of about 2450 meters operated by the Shell Oil Company in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Perdido is located in the Perdido fold belt which is a rich discovery of crude oil and natural gas that lies in water that is nearly 8000 feet deep. The platform's peak production will be 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. At 267 meters, the Perdido is nearly as tall as the Eiffel Tower.
An oil rig is a large structure with facilities to drill wells, to extract and process oil and natural gas, and to temporarily store product until it can be brought to shore for refining and marketing. In many cases, the platform contains facilities to house the workforce as well.

Falklands War
The Falklands War, also known as the Falklands Conflict, Falklands Crisis and the Guerra del Atlántico Sur (Spanish for South Atlantic War), was a ten-week war between Argentina and the United Kingdom over two British overseas territories in the South Atlantic: the Falkland Islands and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. It began on Friday 2 April 1982 when Argentina invaded and occupied the Falkland Islands (and, the following day, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands) in an attempt to establish the sovereignty it has long claimed over them. On 5 April, the British government dispatched a naval task force to engage the Argentine Navy and Air Force before making an amphibious assault on the islands. The conflict lasted 74 days and ended with the Argentine surrender on 14 June 1982, returning the islands to British control. 649 Argentine military personnel, 255 British military personnel and 3 Falkland Islanders died during the hostilities.
The conflict was a major episode in the protracted historical confrontation over the territories' sovereignty. Argentina has asserted and maintains that the islands have been Argentinian territory since the 19th century and, as such, the Argentine government characterised their action as the reclamation of their own territory. The British government saw it as an invasion of territory that has been British since the 19th century. Neither state, however, officially declared war and hostilities were almost exclusively limited to the territories under dispute and the area of the South Atlantic where they lie.
