The Velveteen Rabbit - Canada's Ballet Jörgen NL Tour
Dancers from Canada's Ballet Jörgen bring to life this renowned story of a young boy and his love for a stuffed rabbit that eventually comes to life. Written by Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit was the most popular of her thirty children’s books and focuses on the importance of friendship, love and the discovery of what is real. As the wise character Skin Horse says, “Real isn’t how you are made. It’s the thing that happens to you. When a child really loves you for a long, long time... then you become real.”
The Velveteen Rabbit was a favorite children’s story for choreographer Kathleen Rea. She has created a fairy tale work that she hopes will teach children that it’s what’s on the inside of you that’s most important.”
Join us for this #ACCPresents show, as Canada's Ballet Jörgen brings the story of The Velveteen Rabbit to life.

Luca Lazylegz Patuelli
Throughout his career, Luca “Lazylegz” Patuelli has been able to share his message with over a million audience members worldwide.
Luca “Lazylegz” Patuelli has lived by the “No Excuses, No Limits” motto his whole life. Born with Arthrogryposis, a neuromuscular disorder affecting the bones and joints of the body, at 15 years old, Luca was introduced to breakdancing (Bboying/Bgirling). Immediately, he was attracted to the music, the culture and, of course, to the challenging movements. He slowly began creating a unique style that took advantage of his upper body strength. By using his crutches as extensions of his arms, Bboy Lazylegz was born!
Offering a charismatic, interactive, and dynamic presentation on his own successes and failures, Luca describes how perseverance got him to where he is today. These 60-minute presentations cover a wide variety of topics on personal empowerment, disability awareness, overcoming adversity, and creative leadership.

Matt Andersen with Cory Tetford - NL Tour
The Arts and Culture Centres are excited to present MATT ANDERSEN in his first provincial tour of Newfoundland and Labrador. St. John’s audiences will remember Andersen from past performances at the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival, as well as a solo show at the St. John’s ACC in 2015.
We are excited to announce that joining Andersen on this #ACCPresents tour is Newfoundland’s own Cory Tetford. Cory has been busy touring in Alan Doyle’s band and recently did a very successful run of shows in the province, called NL Songwriters also featuring Chris LeDrew, Paul Lamb and Barry Canning.
From the first notes of “Weightless” to the slow-dying roar of the crowd as the last licks of “Devil’s Bride” squeal out, his latest live record Matt Andersen and the Mellotones Live at Olympic Hall is a rollicking, sizzling night of Andersen’s thunderous voice and hot guitar playing mashed up with the ten-piece force of nature that is the Mellotones, all captured at a historic dance hall in downtown Halifax.
Andersen notes that for artists who don’t get a lot of radio play, “live music is vital.” And more than that, he says, “I think it’s a basic connection, to be part of that energy going on. I just wish everyone could come to a live show. It’s the best way to hear music for sure.”
With over 10 million views on YouTube, two European Blues Awards, and winning Best Solo Performer at the Memphis Blues Challenge, it appears that the entire world is now discovering Matt Andersen. A powerhouse performer with a giant soul-filled voice and commanding stage presence, Matt has built a formidable following the old-fashioned way – touring worldwide and letting the converted audiences and Andersen devotees spread his reputation through word of mouth.
In addition to headlining major festivals, clubs and theatres throughout North America, Europe and Australia, he has shared the stage and toured with Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy, Greg Allman, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Randy Bachman, Little Feat, Jonny Lang, Serena Ryder, and more.
Andersen has won the 2013 and 2016 European Blues Award for Best Solo/Acoustic Act, three Maple Blues Awards in 2012, and nabbed him 2010 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Since the release of Weightless in early 2014, Andersen has received a JUNO nomination for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year, a CIMA Road Gold award, and six Maple Blues Awards for Male Vocalist of the Year.
Tickets for Matt Andersen with special guest Cory Tetford at the Arts and Culture Centres are $35 each and can be purchased online at artsandculturecentre.com or at local theatre box offices.
