Gen. Earl Van Dorn house and Grand Gulf Battlefield(Vicksburg Campaign)
The Van Dorns were southern slaveowners and ran a plantation at Port Gibson, Mississippi-Earl went to West Point and later became a General in the Confederate Army-noted as CSA commander at the Pea Ridge and Corinth battles. He was supposedly killed by a jealous husband near Franklin, Tennesssee in 1863. Grand Gulf sealed the doom of Vicksburg during Grant's 1863 on that city. By effectively landing his army here approx. 30 mile below Vicksburg, he was able to secure a land base for hid army.
