Hiking Rocky Mountain National Park near Grand Lake, Colorado
Hiking Rocky Mountain National Park - Grand Lake, Colorado
Rocky Mountain National Park, in northern Colorado, is one of the top 10 most visited national parks in the United States, with nearly 2.8 million visitors each year. Want to enjoy this natural wonderland without the hassle? Visit the Park's quiet side. The western side of the Park -- accessed via the Kawuneeche Visitor Center -- sees only a third of the traffic of the more popular eastern side.

(9/11/18) Grand Lake, Trail Ridge Rd, to Estes Park
This morning we check out of the Gateway Inn and have lunch at Blue Water Bakery. We explore Grand Lake a little bit, picking up a souvenir aspen vase at a art shop. On our way out we stop at the Mountain Food Market.
We head to Rocky Mountain National Park. After stopping by the visitor center we search in vain for moose. We head up Trail Ridge road and visit the Alpine Visitor Center at the top. We head down towards the east side of the park. We explore around, see some elk, including one with HUGE antlers. After we leave we stop at Smokin' Dave's for some BBQ. We explore town abit, hitting up some pokestops and gyms, and encounter a huge herd of elk near the visitor center. Its dark by the time we check into the Estes Lake Lodge.

COLORADO Camping: Timber Creek Camp & Grand Lake: East Rocky Mtn NP: Vlog 8/10
This video is part 8 of our unplanned trip to Colorado- we took the Trail Ridge road from the East side to the West side across the continental divide- then were lucky enough to get a campsite at the Timber Creek Campground. We went to get a backcountry permit for the following night at the Visitors Center and then Explored Grand Lake and the Holzwarth Historic Homestead site. We got to experience Elk in a much safer environmant than last time and we survived our night of camping in freezing temperatures before getting packed and heading to our last night of backpacking & camping in Colorado. #colorado #camping #vlog

Colorado 2017: Estes Park Campground, Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Lake, Adams Falls
The next few days of our trip, we camped at Estes Park Campground at Mary's Lake. I cannot say enough good things about this campground. The staff are very friendly, the amenities are plentiful, and the place is very clean. We went into Rocky Mountain National Park a few times. Once to Sprague Lake for some awesome photos, and also along Trail Ridge Road to Grand Lake. When we got to Grand lake we ate at a deli called Cy's Deli (excellent food), and then we decided to do a relatively easy hike up to Adam's falls. It was pretty amazing to see the raging waterfalls. Along the way we saw several deer and elk in the area. This was a very fun day on this trip

I'm looking haggard lol. I forgot last night that my truck Alarm went off in the middle of the night when I was camping and I thought it was a bear that triggered the alarm. I was afraid so I slept in my truck and got 2 hours of sleep and then rode my dirt bike all day before finishing off the night doing a service project ????????

Grand Lake Fireworks Inc. 2012
This is my DVD of Grand Lake Fireworks, some of the fund raising and entertainment events, and interviews from those there to watch the show. Both return visitors and first timers were there, because each year the show gets bigger and better. Needless to say, a lot of work, planning, and organization goes into making the whole thing come together. This year, the show was on July 7th, allowing more folks to leave their native fireworks watching grounds to see Grand Lake come to life at night. If you don't have plans next year, come out to Grand Lake and see the show !

Loveland Pass and Trail Ridge Road are two of Colorado's most scenic and high elevation roads, with Trail Ridge Road being the highest continuous paved road in the United States, reaching an elevation of 12,183 feet outside of Estes Park.

From Estes Park, continue west on Hwy 36 to the Beaver Meadows entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. Just beyond the entrance, turn left and head south on Bear Lake Rd. for about 1.3 miles, then turn right (west) toward the Moraine Park Campground (the turnoff is just past a large stand of aspen trees, near the Moraine Park Visitor's Center). This road follows the north side of Moraine Park for about 1/2 mile to another junction. At this junction, turn left toward the Fern Falls And Fern Lake and Cub Lake Trailheads. There are no facilities at the parking lot, but there is a restroom at the Fern Lake parking lot. The trailhead parking lot is small and fills up quickly. If so, you can continue up the road to the Fern Lake parking lot, but this will add about 1 mile if you walk back to the Cub Lake Trail. Be advised that during the busy summer months, even the Fern Lake parking lot can fill up by midmorning.

Rocky Mountain National Park is a national park located in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, in the north-central region of the U.S. state of Colorado. It features majestic mountain views, mountain lakes, a variety of wildlife, varied climates and environments - from wooded forests to mountain tundra - and easy access to back-country trails and campsites. The park is located northwest of Boulder, Colorado, in the Rockies, and includes the Continental Divide and the headwaters of the Colorado River.
The park has five visitor centers. The park headquarters, Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, is a National Historic Landmark, designed by the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture at Taliesin West.
The park may be accessed by three roads: U.S. Highway 34, 36, and State Highway 7. Highway 7 enters the park for less than a mile, where it provides access to the Lily Lake Visitor Center which is closed indefinitely. Farther south, spurs from route 7 lead to campgrounds and trail heads around Longs Peak and Wild Basin. Highway 36 enters the park on the east side, where it terminates after a few miles at Highway 34. Highway 34, known as Trail Ridge Road through the park, runs from the town of Estes Park on the east to Grand Lake on the southwest. The road reaches an elevation of 12,183 feet (3,713 m), and is closed by snow in winter.
The California Zephyr serves Granby (near the west entrance of the park) by rail from Denver, crossing the Continental Divide through the Moffat Tunnel well south of the park. The park's website suggests Granby as an appropriate rail terminus for visitors, although it lies about sixteen miles from the park without public transportation connections.
The park is surrounded by Roosevelt National Forest on the north and east, Routt National Forest on the northwest, and Arapaho National Forest on the southwest.

Is Trail Ridge Road open?
Yes is is, finally. Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park opened at Noon on Wednesday June 6, 2019. The snowy views of the rocky mountains are amazing. There is so much snow in the high elevations of Rocky Mountain National Park and all this is just a short drive from your room at the Historic Rapids Lodge and Restaurant in Grand Lake, Colorado.
The Alpine Visitor Center and Trail Ridge Store are still under a lot of snow but as the weather warms up, it will all melt quickly. Make a quick trip to visit us and enjoy truly remarkable mountain scenery. The National Park Service is still using heavy machinery to remove snow.
Our little town is the Western gateway to RMNP and is extraordinarily scenic with 3 lakes and mountain views. Buy your Rocky Mountain National Park Pass at the Kawuneechee Visitor Center or at the gate kiosk as you go in.
The Alpine Visitor Center and Trail Ridge Store are still under a lot of snow but as the weather warms up, it will all melt quickly. The Tonahutu River in front of the Rapids Restaurant is flowing high at last....lets see how high it gets. The Rocky Mountain National Park Trails are still all snow covered up there and the wind is chilly! Dress for it.
Lodging in Grand Lake is always in high demand. Check out the Rapids Lodge website...we a room for everybody's taste, the greatest variety of lodging in Grand Lake, Colorado. Guest Rooms, Suites Riverside Condos and some units are pet -friendly too.

One of Colorado’s and the country’s most spectacular drives is open for the season.
Up and Over - Trail Ridge Road - Opening Weekend 2016
Enjoy this quick Misty Mountain Hop up and over Trail Ridge Road (TRR)** in Rocky Mountain National Park, the first weekend it was open to the public in 2016. TRR is the highest paved road in North America and is shown at 8x speed covering the highest 15 miles of the road including a stop at the Alpine Visitor Center.
This was my first try capturing and editing video taken from my Garmin VIRB XE HD video camera with the automotive package. Considering this video only took me about 30 minutes to create, including figuring out how to download the video, edit the clips and add the data overlay, I can tell this camera has a lot of potential and I can't wait to try it at the race track.
** Trail Ridge Road is the name for a stretch of U.S. Highway 34 that traverses Rocky Mountain National Park from Estes Park, Colorado in the east to Grand Lake, Colorado in the west. The road is also known as TRR/Beaver Meadow National Scenic Byway. The road crosses the Continental Divide at Milner Pass (elev. 10,758 ft or 3,279 m) and reaches a maximum elevation of 12,183 ft (3,713 m), near Fall River Pass (elev. 11,796 ft or 3,595 m). Near the highest point on the road is another pass, Iceberg Pass (elev. 11,827 ft or 3,605 m). TRR is closed during the winter, and often remains closed until late spring or early summer depending on the snowpack. It requires access to Rocky Mountain National Park even for local residents.
