Driving Through New England Small Towns, Ludlow Vermont (VT), Okemo Mountain Resort, ob Vermont Route 103, then through town of Cavendish on Vermont Route 131 to intersection of Highway I-91 . Very scenic driving.

Ludlow is a town in Windsor County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,963 at the 2010 census.[3] Ludlow is the home of Okemo Mountain, a popular ski resort. Before becoming a ski destination, Ludlow was originally a mill town, and was the home of a General Electric plant until 1977. It was named after Ludlow, Massachusetts which is less than 100 miles away. There is also a village of Ludlow in the town.

Rising above the village of Ludlow, in south-central Vermont, Okemo Mountain Resort is a family-operated four-season outdoor enthusiast's playground.

Cavendish is a town in Windsor County, Vermont, United States. The town was likely named after William Cavendish, 4th Duke of Devonshire.[3] The population was 1,367 at the 2010 census.[4] The town of Cavendish includes the unincorporated villages of Cavendish and Proctorsville.

Vermont Route 131 is a 16.299-mile-long (26.231 km) state highway in Windsor County, Vermont, United States. It starts at VT 103 in Cavendish and terminates at a junction with U.S. Route 5 and VT 12 in the town of Weathersfield.
VT 131 begins at an intersection with VT 103 in the Windsor County town of Cavendish on the shores of the Black River. VT 131 runs southeast from VT 103 along Main Street in Cavendish, paralleling local railroad tracks as the main west–east road through the community. The route bends northeast in the village, passing a long string of residences, turning east at Twentymile Stream Road. Now paralleling the Black River, the route continues east through Cavendish, reaching the commercial center at a junction with Mill Street.[2]
At Mill Street, VT 131 turns northeast through another residential sector of Cavendish. The route winds northeast through Cavendish, reaching the hamlet of Whitesville, a small community at the junction of Whitesville and Carlton Roads with VT 131. The route soon reaches Cavendish Center, a small junction at Brook Road, where it bends along the Black River eastward before turning southeast along the river still. After running south, the route soon bends east through the woods of Cavendish. VT 131 and the river bend northeast then east and entering the town of Weathersfield. In the community of Downers, which VT 131 almost immediately enters, the route junctions with VT 106.[2]
VT 131 at US 5 and VT 12 in Ascutney
After VT 106, VT 131 bends northeast out of Downers, paralleling the North Branch of the Black River, reaching the hamlet of Amsden. After a couple turns, the route reaches Gulf Road, where it turns north again, running up a mountainside into a bend at Henry Gould Road. VT 131 then bends southeast, passing the other end of Gulf Road, soon reaching a junction with Weathersfield Center Road. Running down the hillside it climbed earlier, the route bends northeast into a diamond interchange with I-91 (exit 8) in Weathersfield.[2]
After I-91, VT 131 becomes a divided highway as it enters the hamlet of Ascutney, reaching a junction with US 5 and VT 12 just west of the Connecticut River and New Hampshire, where VT 131's right-of-way becomes NH 103
**********************
The Black River begins in a small body of water called Black Pond, in Plymouth, Vermont. Winding its way toward the town of Ludlow, its narrow flow picks up a variety of small brooks and streams and is cooled by overhanging branches. Passing through Amherst Lake, Echo Lake, Lake Rescue, and Lake Pauline, the Black River picks up more tributaries and winds through the town of Ludlow, the home of Okemo Mountain Ski Resort. Tumbling through impressive Cavendish Gorge, the river widens as it passes under the Downers Covered Bridge and enters Perkinsville.

Charges dismissed against British couple charged with leaving infant in car
Hampstead, Nassau Country, Long Island, New York
1. Wide shot Nassau County District Court building in Hampstead, Long Island
2. Mid shot lawyer Meir Moza with Yisroel and Goldie Singer
3. Reporters, pan to couple with lawyer
4. SOUNDBITE (English) Goldie Singer:
Relieved. I'm glad that people noticed, I mean that people around there will see that it's not, you know, a criminal thing to leave a baby in a car. It might be an act of neglect but you don't have to be arrested. And definitely I'm glad it was dismissed. That we're able to go home and I'm looking forward to going home.
5. SOUNDBITE (English) Yisroel Singer:
I think people, this is obviously a victory, I think, not just for ourselves, just as two individuals, but I think that most of Britain will be happy and relieved that it's over with.
6. Wide shot couple, lawyer and media
7. SOUNDBITE (English) Yisroel Singer:
I think that in hindsight, certainly, some good things have come out of this whole story. I think first of all we've certainly learned our lesson, don't take your eyes off your child for a split second, certainly not in America and even in Britain not.
8. Mid shot Goldie and Yisroel pick up their baby Rosie from the court's day care centre
9. Mid shot couple with child
10. Wide shot couple exits court with lawyer and child and walks down street outside court
STORYLINE:
A judge on Friday granted a conditional discharge to a British couple arrested two weeks ago on charges they left their infant daughter in a parked car in a Long Island shopping centre.
First District Court Judge Denise Sher agreed to drop the misdemeanor child endangerment charge against Goldie Singer, 25, a teacher, and Yisroel Singer, a salesman, in six months if they are not rearrested.
Their attorney, Meir Moza, attributed their arrest to a cultural misunderstanding.
He also said the couple needed to find a bathroom for their three year old daughter, who had recently suffered from a bladder infection.
The judge returned the Singers' passports and the couple said they will return home to London soon.
Passers-by flagged down police after noticing the 6-month-old in her baby seat in a locked vehicle on December 23 at Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream.
The Singers' lawyers, who were visiting relatives in Brooklyn for the holidays, were gone five to seven minutes.
Assistant District Attorney Danielle Papa agreed to the defence application to have the charges dismissed in six months.
In 1997, a Danish woman and her American husband were charged with child endangerment after they left their 14-month-old daughter in a stroller outside an East Village restaurant while they dined. The charges were later dismissed.

Top 10 towns devastated by a single employer or industry.
Top 10 towns devastated by a single employer or industry.
Have you ever wondered how a town gets abandoned? There is a bunch of reasons why one does but most of the time it is the loss of a single employer. Company towns have failed over and over and that is what this video is all about, towns that collapsed when the main employer left town or closed down.
Many of these towns have a few residents still hanging on but there is no Airbnb, timeshare, or new mortgages to help revitalize these towns. I'm not sure you could get a home loan for most of these towns and I doubt homeowners insurance is reasonable either.
I hope you enjoy the video.

7. Carlsbad Cavern
This amazing cave is located in New Mexico in Carlsbad Caverns National Park. One of the cavern’s most renowned areas is its giant limestone chamber, also called the “Big Room”; it is about 4,000 feet long, 625 feet wide, and 255 feet tall. It is North America’s fifth and the world’s 28th largest chamber. One of the cavern’s most renowned details are the alien-like speleothems, or cave formations, that hang from its ceiling and ceaselessly grow due to water drizzling through the limestone. Some of them also rise from the floor, meaning the entire cave is decorated with strange, organic structures. Adding to the natural allure of this place are the lights that people have installed for effortless viewing of Carlsbad Cavern’s many rooms and formations. The lamps glow in various colors, giving the cave an even more surreal appearance. While enjoying a guided tour of the cavern, visitors can experience a light show at the end that truly illuminates all of the beauty this wonder has to offer.
6. Watkins Glen
This state park is located in the Finger Lakes area of New York. Perhaps the most eye-catching detail of Watkins Glen is a gorge that is about 400 feet deep; it was formed by Glen Creek when glaciers from the Ice Age sank further into the valley causing the stream to become steeper. This created more rapid waters and cascades. There are numerous waterfalls within this area of the park, including the Central Cascade, Cavern Cascade, and Rainbow Falls, which is considered one of the most captivating; it descends beneath the Rainbow Bridge over varying steps of jagged rock, flowing into the pool below. However, this entire area of Watkins Glen State Park is beautiful. Green vegetation grows within the crevices of stone, and running water adds to its dreamlike ambiance. There is a trail that allows people to walk through the gorge with ease and enjoy the scenery throughout this remarkable place.

Inside Juvenile Detention
As recently as 2005, the state of Virginia had eight centers like Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Facility, housing more than 1,300 delinquent youth. But by 2017, after a series of reforms, that number had shrunk to one.
“It's not that you can't do good work here,” said Andy Block, who, since 2014, has served as the juvenile-justice department’s director. “But the place itself and the design and the size and the location are barriers to doing good work.” Block and others are working to close Bon Air and replace it with something that reflects the juvenile justice reforms that have taken hold in Virginia and across the country—a system that once focused on confinement is now dedicated to rehabilitation. In recent years, more than 70 percent of Virginia's juvenile inmates were rearrested within three years of their release.*
Read more on The Atlantic:
*This documentary originally stated that Virginia has one of the highest recidivism rates in the country. This characterization was based on incomplete data. The documentary also stated that the three-year rearrest rate for current Bon Air inmates would be 74 percent. This was the rate for former juvenile inmates in Virginia in 2014. We regret the errors.
