Some 1,600 islands, thick with greenery, form a maze of channels in the azure waters off northeastern Vietnam. Although people have lived in the region of Ha Long Bay for thousands of years, most of the islands remain uninhabited. But these coves and natural towers are rich with wildlife. For centuries, this spectacular seascape has inspired wonder.
The name Ha Long, Vietnamese for “descending dragon,” is reflected in a legend: Once, when the Viet people faced invasion, a dragon flew down from heaven to their defense. The creature sprayed not only fire, but also jewels that became the green archipelago.
The scientific explanation for the rock formations, known as karst, is also amazing. For millions of years, seashells and sediments fell to an ancient seafloor, forming solid rock. Tectonic activity raised the resulting limestone above water. Rainfall and rivers dissolved exposed rock, and carved valleys that flooded after the last ice age, creating this rare example of a karst field at sea.
Features include lakes and caves through the islands, and notches and tunnels where seawater has worn at the pillars' foundations. The fantastic landscape also continues into two adjacent national parks, on Cat Ba Island and Bai Tu Long Bay.
You can go kayaking, caving, or even take a ride in a seaplane to experience the grandeur of these enchanting tropical islands.

I put my body on the motorcycle again. Dalat is not a big city, so if you go out to the suburbs for 20 minutes, you can see green fields. It is a strange building that stands out as if it were to pierce the sky. This place, which is not exceptional in appearance, is called 'Temple of Lin Phuoc' or 'Be'ai Temple'. The inside of the temple is much more colorful. The colorful decorations are situated in the temple, and I was wondering why it is called 'Beja Temple' meaning 'garbage'. The name of the temple is Rin Fukyuk. It was created in 1949 and repaired in 1990. Why do you call the temple name Bezai (garbage)? Because I decorated the wall of the temple with a broken bowl or a piece of glass. All these decorations were broken into pieces of ceramics and glass pieces I can not believe it. As you can see in detail, it is decorated with the Sanfarri, a fragrance of ceramic bowls and bowls. It was so wonderful to make brilliant works of art with useless garbage. It's like the work of Gaudi in Barcelona, Spain, made of small pieces of porcelain. It's very impressive. It's beautiful! It is very attractive. You must come here as well. People are good, food is good, and it is perfect. Now I have to talk about temples, why do you talk about other things? I went up to the side of the bell with a bell. The bellman was not a monk but a tourist. I was attaching a yellow paper to the bell. As you know, putting a wish paper on a species and knocking a bell three times will result in all these earnest wishes. There are no borders, religions, or genders in these minds. We wrote down our sincere wishes. It's about what you want in your heart, especially about your family. I want my family to live in peace. I do not want to argue all the time. I have a lot of years of my parents, so I always wanted to live healthy and happily together for a long time. I want to be successful without worrying about my parents. And like a bell ringing around the world, I prayed that all these winds would reach the Buddha.

RIDING VIETNAM'S SCENIC NORTH WEST MOUNTAINS Adventure Oz
Day 8 on the Top Gear Tour with Vietnam Motorbike Tours! Epic riding in the remote north west of Vietnam, and its corners, climbs, corners, descents and more corners as we explore the Moc Chau plateau. It's pure bucket list riding and the best way to see the real Vietnam. There are thousands of beautiful valleys across Vietnam and we stayed in one of them last night. But no rest for the wicked, it's time to endure the daily commute as our slave driver issues the order. And what a way to commute. Mist covered mountains, terraced rice fields, cool mountain air. Tough life for Vietnam Motorbike Tours, but someone has to do it. This is the perfect way to see the real Vietnam.
Alrighty then, day eight. What's on the agenda? According to our itinerary, we leave the green embrace of Mai Chau valley in the morning. With the mists rising off the paddy fields, we hit the road and head higher into the northwest mountains. Check. What else? As we arrive on the Moc Chau plateau the trees fade away to reveal acres of tea plantations. This area is famous for its excellent brew. Okay, well I coffee but I don't mind riding past tea plantations. What else? The temperatures drop as we ride higher. The landscape becomes barren and bare, making it appear isolated and remote. Indeed, this part of Vietnam was a special semi-autonomous zone until the late 20th century. It's certainly a day of elevation changes with Vietnam Motorbike Tours and I suspect we are riding up and down this plateau throughout the day. Exceptional views, picturesque valleys. Loving it. And now yet another word from our culturally inappropriate sponsor. Lets see if the guys are happy with the trip so far or plotting a class action lawsuit.
Plenty of water in Vietnam. And there are plenty of dams too, many of these generate hydroelectricity and around 70% of Vietnam's electricity is generated that way. And somewhere around here is the biggest hydoelectric scheme in Indochina. We are riding in the dry season with Vietnam Motorbike Tours but it still rains occasionally. Over the 10 day trip we just got some light rain for one morning. Apparently they guys get asked a lot about when is the best time to ride Vietnam, and it actually doesn't matter that much. Weather patterns vary a lot from north to south, and the guys based themselves kind of in the middle at Nha Trang because it offers the best year round riding. And they vary the destinations to suit. For example the monsoonal storms up north mean tours like ours that finish in Hanoi are only run for a few months of the year. Corners, corners and more corners. I figure we are climbing the plateau again and it's hard to keep your eyes on the road with views like this. Another awesome day with Vietnam Motorbike Tours and we pull into another classy hotel in Son La, a highland town with a real buzz. Stick around for more adventures in the real vietnam.

Mai Chau Ecolodge, Vietnam (HD)
Mai Chau Ecolodge (HD)
Located about four hours from Hanoi, the Mai Chau Valley is known as the Jewel of the North. It's the center of ancient Thai culture in Vietnam, and a beautiful, soulful place with wonderful people who are open to having visitors. It's possible for tourism to spoil a place, and I often wonder if people with cameras and cargo shorts ruin what made it wonderful to begin with...But the fact is that tourism brings business, and the locals feel that's good, if managed the right way. With a friendly staff and management drawn from the local community, It seems to me this resort is doing it the right way.
