Trout Fishing Pennsylvania's Spring Creek
Central Pennsylvania is littered with famous trout streams. Meanwhile, few gain as much attention as Spring Creek. Many guys fish flies under a bobber. Meanwhile, we fished Balls O Fire salmon eggs and Fire Bait and found instant success while filming Pautzke Outdoors.
Ironically, most people told us Spring was one of the toughest places in the region to catch fish. However, we caught and released more than two dozen in a few short hours with our bait. Keep in mind, that’s only two anglers, and we only had time to fish about 50 yards of water before the rain sent us back to State College for lunch.
As most Pennsylvania anglers know, Spring Creek isn’t stocked by the PA Fish & Boat Commission. When it came to eggs the three eggs we brought to the bank (Pink Shrimp, Natural Deluxe, Gold Label) all caught fish, but the largest trout came off Feed Pellet Brown and Chartreuse Garlic Fire Bait. Head there with these baits and you’ll find similar success.

711 A Ave, Coronado, San Diego, Tudor home an in depth look
For sale, For Rent, For Lease, Open for business, , this one-of-a kind, three story, 14000 sq.ft. home and registered landmark is less than a mile from the world-class destination Hotel Del Coronado resort in the City of Coronado, California. Offered for sale, no currency today could forge such an authentic and spectacularly crafted once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Originally drafted by noted architects William Hebbard and Irving Gill in 1898, the commission was to be a vacation getaway for a wealthy Standard Oil executive. The work eventually was completed in 1929 and, by then, it had become the Southern California retirement home of the former surgeon general of New York. Purchased again at auction in 1950, 711 A Avenue became the home to a family of stalwart ‘islanders’ dedicated to the small-town community of Coronado. The manor since has been the site of countless historical tours, social functions and picturesque garden weddings.
The grounds’ mature foliage shrouds the majestic design and quality construction of this exquisite example of Old English Country style architecture — all of it in the center of one romantic and idyllic beach town.
With its small-town Americana feel, Coronado is one of the most highly rated and coveted beach cities in California. 711 A Avenue is located only a few short blocks from the main artery of Coronado’s community heart, also known as ‘The Village’. Directly across the bay from metropolitan San Diego, life in this affluent resort town of less than 25,000 includes golfing at the renowned waterside course, sailing out of Glorietta Bay, surfing and sunbathing in the Pacific, as well as browsing the collection of small specialty shops and dining in the fine eateries along Orange Avenue. There are miles of walking and biking paths, and plenty of public park space and natural beauty. Add upscale cultural events, hometown pride and one of the most patriotic Independence Day parade displays around, it then becomes apparent why this tourist destination converts vacationers to residents with frequent regularity.
Whether a resident or a tourist, one immediately will notice the high and steep-pitched roof lines as well as the adobe and wood exterior walls of this impressive house. Features of this 30-room mansion include 9 bedrooms, 13 bath and powder rooms, a ballroom, and a walnut-paneled living room with a hidden doorway and private stairwell to the wine cellar. The reserved luxury of the formal dining room with a splendid fireplace promises another 100 years of memorable feasts. The caretaker suites and servant entries add to the functionality of the estate, as does the elevator and dumbwaiter. The original period appliances in the kitchen including the iceboxes and gas stove are updated, though they preserve a museum quality appearance. Beautifully styled gables and dormer windows provide ample light through the beveled glass, and architectural details like sterling silver electrical and bathroom fixtures, as well as the priceless Delft tiles that artistically frame one of the many fireplaces, should not be overlooked.
Inside, the marble-arched entry way welcomes visitors and ocean breezes alike. The floorplan here is a textbook case of an English country house layout. Chambers throughout include a study, an anteroom, sitting rooms, the library, the butler’s pantry and vestibules; and, mapping one’s initial orientation should begin with one of the more dramatic features — the grand wooden staircase. Each of its landings could be scenes from the famous Hearst Castle. Artistic archways and detailed handiwork seems to document one’s ascent from the large first-floor entry hall to the third-floor room with beautiful 18 x 20 inch wood beams adorned with Chinese graphics. Ornamental ceiling treatments and hidden doorways add to the awe. The master bedrooms on the second floor are all complete suites, and the rooftop Widow’s Walk offers 360-degree views including Glorietta Bay, downtown San Diego’s skyline, picturesque western sunsets, and the iconic red-roof shingles of the Hotel Del Coronado resort.
Sun rooms, covered balconies and porches overlook the green expanse of the estate’s park-like yard. The back patio terrace is ideal for outdoor socials, and its steps lead to dining and seating areas, as well as the pergola-covered path through the gardens across the lawn.

The Valley and the Tunnel
This project is a critical response to the National Memorial plan, which will trench state highway 1 between the Basin Reserve and Taranaki st, and then cover it with a park to ...increase connection between the Corrillian tower with the planned Memorial Park.
This project radicalises the concept that to have greater connection, we must bury the car.
Cambridge/Kent Terrace has been chosen as a test site for developing the project as here pedestrian connection across the city is particularly disrupted by traffic flow.
Adjacent car sales yards and servicing stations become opportunities for new typologies of urban development that increase liveability in the center city, intensifying and increasing connection in and with the city.
A continuous native lowland forest, wetland and stream replace the cars. This new native infrastructure connects to the coastal grasses on the waterfront. Birds and insects can journey unencumbered from one end to the other.
A walkway layers above the native infrastructure, connecting buildings and shop fronts directly to the park and each other. This layer is broken into various parcels of lawn, urban agriculture, playgrounds (here indicated in pink) and walkway.
The native infrastructure also bursts through this layer, in parts being framed by or framing the walkway. Line of sight across the park is maintained by planting low lying ferns, grasses and reeds, while the Pohutakawa and Kowhai establish a strong canopy so that while the path meanders and intersects these various conditions and parcels, the destination is always clear.
Stairs extend this rich experience down underground, also becoming a gathering space, an arena.
The project takes a stance of cognitive dissonance, where the spaces of pedestrians and automotive transport are both considered in a positive way.
The tunnel is a shrine to the car, encouraging and celebrating the benefits of automotive transportation. The tunnel increases capacity of transportation, and becomes a subterranean spectacle where light streams down from above ground through fibre optic sun collector lily pads. The monumental structures NZTA seems to appreciate so much are well represented here, with meandering carriageways that flow together and between each other in convoluted spaghetti junctions. Unlike a fixed rail option for public transport, this design is future proof. It can react to changing technological conditions by maintaining a carriageway suitable for driverless cars. The post tensioned monocoque ring structure of the tunnel can also flex and react to changing geological conditions, like a super slinky.
This creates a rich urban experience, where people can easily connect with nature, the city and each other.

Osprey is where you want to be IF you wish to avoid the crowds and tourist traps, and would rather experience a true escape.
The Choctaw Indians called Osprey home for a couple thousand years prior to the arrival of the Europeans. They fished, hunted, harvested oysters and mussels, and had gardens very similar to what we have now. The Indians in this region were most likely descendants of Mayan maritime explorers that traveled the coastline up from the Yucatan during the peak of the Mayan civilization.
After the arrival of Spanish, British, and French explorers in the 1600s, the deep water coves along this coastline became hideouts for pirates and sometimes-outlaw naval captains like Admiral Semmes who traded in black market goods from conquered enemy ships.
From the late 1800s to early 1900s, this area became a favorite hideout and transshipping point for rumrunners smuggling rum from Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Tortuga. From here, barrels of rum were shipped up the rivers from Mobile and New Orleans to river ports all the way up the Mississippi River, and then loaded on wagons and shipped east to Chicago and Pennsylvania, and west to California.
Beginning in the early 1900s through to about 1960, this area continued its roll as a transshipping point for Caribbean rum, but also became a production and distribution center for moonshine. Distilleries were located in the dense woods along these shores for decades, and most natives here now can tell tales of uncles or grandfathers in the business.
During WWII, these waters were frequented by Axis subs. Although they never attacked, it is believed that German spies often came ashore to get supplies and, well, spy. There's a great book by Andy Andrews called Island of Saints that is based around these events.
Then came the 60's, 70's, and early 80's ... Contraband found its way to our backwater shoreline from South America, Central America, and Jamaica. For all the same reasons as the last few hundred years, our hidden coves continued to be the favorite hideout and transshipping point for nearly 30% of the illegal contraband entering the United States. The term Save the Bales, made famous on the Flora-Bama t-shirts of the early 80's, came from the thousands of bales and packages of contraband that would be dumped into the waters off shore by smugglers to avoid being caught red-handed on their way into port when spotted by the Coast Guard. These bales would often wash ashore and be found by unsuspecting beach combers (many of whom retired shortly thereafter).
Nowadays, Osprey is the place for people to hide out from their day to day life, get to know their family again, or just enjoy a few quiet days with nature.
So relax, and enjoy the best hideout in the Southern United States.
Need more space? Check out Osprey Villa, Osprey Chateau, and Osprey GuestHouse! All here on VRBO, and they may also be seen on our Osprey Estate . Com site! You can rent all of them!
