Plan Greer
Careful planning has made Greer, South Carolina, a great place to live in addition to being one of the fastest-growing cities in South Carolina. A new edition of the Greer Community Master Plan was unveiled on May 28, 2015 as a blueprint for the community through the year 2030.
Greer, South Carolina
Greer is a city between Greenville and Spartanburg counties in the US state of South Carolina. The population was 27,167 as of 2013 and is projected to reach 30,000 within four years. Each day, more than three times that number of people pass through the city on the two highways which run through the city. The Greenville County portion of Greer is part of the Greenville–Anderson–Mauldin Metropolitan Statistical Area, while the Spartanburg County portion is part of the Spartanburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is additionally part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson, SC Combined Statistical Area in Upstate South Carolina.
Greer is adjacent to Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, which serves Greenville, Spartanburg, and the Upstate. Greer is also the site of the only BMW manufacturing facility in North America. According to a June 2005 article in The Greenville News, BMW's Greer plant employs about 4,600 workers, and has attracted dozens of suppliers in South Carolina, providing jobs for more than 12,000 workers. Greer also is home to the South Carolina Inland Port, an intermodal facility that receives and sends containers by rail to the Port of Charleston.

Turned right towards Clear Creek. Continued down Clear Creek just past East McElhaney Road bridge. About Lake Cunningham:
Lake Cunningham is 376 acre lake located near Greer, South Carolina in Greenville County. Greer Public Works owns and maintains this lake with strict regulations designed to protect the lake. Along with its sister lake, Lake Robinson, Greer takes great pride in these two lakes. There is a public park on State Highway 101 at one end of the lake. This park has a boat ramp, playground equipment, fishing pier, and a good view of the lake.
Several Regulations apply to Lake Cunningham. A boating permit must be purchased prior to launching a boat. These permits must be purchased at the Lake Wardens office located on nearby Lake Robinson.

The City of Greer had a vision for turning around their downtown. Mayor Rick Danner talks about they went about implementing that vision through a Master Plan created with the help of a public-private partnership and turned their downtown from a couple of restaurants into a vibrant center that includes a new city hall, a new courthouse, a 12-acre park, and more.
When we think about the $8-10 million that our partners and the City have invested in this plan over 15 years, we can very easily say that we've had returns of up to 10 times that amount of money in the downtown area...It's been transformational to our downtown. It has brought back some of the excitement and the luster and the nightlife and the vibrancy...It really has revolutionized that downtown area.

If you are a follower of my past blogs and YouTube videos, you know that I am a huge history fan. I’m equally intrigued in places where unique architecture exists. Atalaya Castle filled both of these interests. Atalaya Castle was built as a summer resident by philanthropist Archer M. Huntington and his wife, the sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington in the mid-1930s.
