The job of a trawlerman is still regarded as the 'most dangerous peacetime occupation in the UK'. Featuring archive footage from Lincolnshire Film Archive and images donated from the Grimsby Telegraph, this short video gives visitors an insight into the days of Great Grimsby as 'The World's Premier Fishing Port'. It concludes with a view of the preserved trawler, ROSS TIGER, with three of our ex trawlerman guides - the last of an era.

Grimsby, also known as Great Grimsby, is a large town and seaport in Lincolnshire, England, on the South Bank of the Humber Estuary close to where it reaches the North Sea. Grimsby is the administrative centre of North East Lincolnshire.
Grimsby developed as a major sea port on the east coast of England, hosting the largest fishing fleet in the world by the mid-20th century. The fishing industry declined dramatically after the Cod Wars. Since then the town of Grimsby has battled with post-industrial decline. Since the 1990s the local council has encouraged food manufacturing.
The Grimsby–Cleethorpes conurbation acts as the cultural, shopping and industrial centre for a large area of northern and eastern Lincolnshire. People from Grimsby are called Grimbarians; the term codhead (plural codheads) is also used jokingly or disparagingly, often with reference to Grimsby football supporters. 22 January is Great Grimsby Day.
Grimsby lies 15 miles from the nearest motorway, the M180 which continues as the A180 into the town and acts as a link to the national motorway network. Grimsby's bus service is provided by Stagecoach which took over the original Grimsby-Cleethorpes Transport in 1993.
Grimsby also has rail links via Grimsby Town railway station and Grimsby Docks railway station. There is a level crossing in the centre of the town across Wellowgate. Grimsby was home to two tramway networks: the Grimsby District Light Railway and the Grimsby & Immingham Electric Railway.

Trawlermen's Reunion 2015 at Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre
200 former trawlermen and their friends and family, gathered together at Grimsby's iconic Fishing Heritage Centre for a night to share memories, friendship and a pint of traditional Hewitt's ale ! This special eveining was hosted by Fishing Heritage Centre and The Fishermen's Mission, with support from Young's Seafood and live music from Grimsby's John Conolly.

Touring Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre. The history of the fishing industry and local life. A very interesting place to visit. The Ross Tiger trawler is under repair at the moment so going back in a few weeks for a tour round a real 1950's fishing trawler.

Grimsby's Lost Ships of WW1 Exhibition Launch
The launch of a special exhibition telling the story of over 300 ships that were lost from the port of Great Grimsby during WW1. The vessels were engaged in vital work for the Royal Navy in minesweeping as well as in their usual role of fishing.
Speeches are given by Kevin Smith of the Lost Ships of WW1 project, as well as from Professor Tony Collins of the Heritage Lottery Fund.

HRH Duchess of Cambridge visits Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre
The Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre came under the spotlight of the world's media when HRH Duchess of Cambridge came to visit.
Her Royal Highness took the tour and discovered what life was like in the 1950's for the Trawlermen of Grimsby and their families. Guided by John Vincent and Sue Marshall, Her Royal Highness sat in the Captain's cabin, saw life onboard a trawler, took a walk down a 1950's street and even popped in to the Freeman Arms pub.

Defending Grimsby's History and Heritage
Grimsby has an important history and heritage dating back more than 200 years. We must preserve our heritage areas such as beaches, homes, parks, escarpment, etc. We need to encourage residents and officials to maintain & enhance these icons and enshrine them into our town's charter.

Have you ever wondered what lies hidden above the MacDonalds restaurant on Victoria Street, Grimsby ?
Well wonder no more. Today, after gaining permission from the management, I was taken through a door
in a false wall which leads into the abandoned cinema. I was surprised at what has survived, but there
were areas I couldn't go because it was considered unsafe. This was why I had to be taken round to keep
to the safe areas. What a fantastic place to explore and would love to see it preserved.
Stay until the end to see a couple of original adverts shown in the cinema.
A tour round the 'Time Trap' at Grimsby Town Hall
A very interesting tour of the Time Trap looking at the old Victorian police cells and period rooms. My next video will be an explore of a 16th century cottage and a 17th century farmhouse.
