A look at Oslo
NOVASOL offers you holiday homes in Norway that are near Oslo. These are perfect for visiting the lovely Norwegian capital. Oslo is situated on the northern end of the Oslo Fjord which is the only fjord in Norway that can freeze during winter. This is because the other fjords are too warm due to the warm water of the Gulf Stream. The central shopping street of Oslo is ‘Karl Johans gate’. Here there are impressive buildings and the palace where the Norwegian royal family lives. In the city’s center there is also the Town Hall where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded every year. Oslo’s fairly new Opera House opened in 2008. There are many museums distributed throughout the city as well as galleries that display contemporary art. ‘Vikingskipshuset’ gives you the opportunity to learn about Norway and Scandinavia’s history about the Vikings. You can also visit Norway’s largest amusement park called ‘TusenFryd’. Book a NOVASOL holiday cottage near Oslo and experience the Norwegian capital which is truly fantastic and full of exciting history and culture. Novasol website:

Oslo - Norway. Discover the river Akerselva, Grünerløkka, the Oslo Fjord and more
Discover the many faces of Oslo. You may follow the links in this video to other videos to find out more about Oslo. Most of the linked videos will lead you to videos from Visit Oslo. Annotations will probably not work on mobile devices though.
Please visit our webpages at
In the beginning of this video, we take you to the Opera House in Oslo, which was designed by the Norwegian architectural company Snøhetta.
Furthermore, you will get a chance to check out the mood of the city at the head of the Oslo Fjord.
The river Akerselva is a pittoresque river flowing through Oslo from the lake Maridalsvannet and down to the Oslo Fjord. The river is still an important green lung for the citizens of Oslo, and just a quick stroll away you will be in the middle of urban Oslo with the shops, cafeterias and restaurants.
From Wikipedia: Akerselva, or Akerselven, is a river which flows through Oslo. It starts at Maridalsvannet in Oslomarka, and follows the urban areas Nordre Aker, Sagene, Grünerløkka, Oslo centre and Grønland, whereby it finally ends at Paulsenkaien and Oset in Bjørvika. The river is considered to be a part of the Nordmarkvassdraget, and has the watercourse number 006.Z. The entire river is about 8.2 kilometres long, and has a difference in altitude of approximately 149 meters. Earlier, the river gave power to numerous industry companies in Oslo. Akerselven is Oslo’s green lung”; many parks and nature trails are to be found by its path, from Grønland to Maridalsvannet. A walk from along Akerselven from the rural Frysja down through the different parts of Oslo all the way down to the city centre is an amazing experience and a walk through the history of Oslo.Salmon run and spawn in the upper part of the river
Find out more about Akerselva here:
Later on, the video takes you to the beautiful little street Telthusbakken, lying nearby Akerselva.
From Wikipedia: Telthusbakken is a narrow street located in Oslo, in the borough of St. Hanshaugen. Almost all buildings along the street are old and traditional wooden houses, many from the period around 1815 when deeds were issued for the properties. During the 16th century, the street which is now Telthusbakken was part of the main road passing the Old Aker Church, from east to west of Oslo and further across to the west coast. Sitting on top of the Telthusbakken hill, Old Aker Church was built around 1080 and is the oldest building still in use in Oslo. The name Telthusbakken is from a large canvas house that existed around 1700.
Finally, the video takes you to the Oslo Fjord and the ferries and cruiseships that are sailing to Oslo.
We hope you enjoy the video.
