New Braunfels & Family Reunion Trip
We are Jake and Kat from the great state of Texas!
Let’s ride!
On July 11, 2019 we started to make our way to the beautiful town of New Braunfels but 1st, a stop at Buc-ee’s! (If you’ve never stopped at a Buc-ee’s, it’s a “must do”!) It’s a huge store w/ plenty of gas pumps and pretty much has anything you will need (and a lot of things you do not need but, will buy anyway! Lol) along with good food and clean restroom’s. It’s a little Texas thing to take your picture in front of the Buc-ee’s sign.
We finally made it to the Landa RV Park & Campground. We were right on the Comal River with full hook ups and it was a nice, laid back and a enjoyable time. That river is pretty cold though, even for July! We even got our princess diva daughter “Maggie” in for a little swim! We stayed for a couple of days, of course we ventured into town and shopped at a couple of stores and you just can not leave this beautiful town without taking a picture at the well known Gruene Hall and we also swung by the Luckenback, Tex. post office.
We packed up and started our long drive to a family reunion in the little town of Campwood, Texas. We lucked out and had a electric only site on a family members property, a short walk to the
beautiful Nueces River. Let me just tell you fine people... sitting in that river with the current hitting your back, telling stores and laughing, enjoying the company of the people you love well, it just doesn’t get any better than that. ❤️
We loved our river time, sitting around chatting at the camp at night and enjoyed our BIG family lunch on the last day.
Unfortunately as you know, all good things must come to a end and we had to say our goodbyes, give tight hugs and lots of kisses. (Kat is adopted and her birth family lives in North Texas while we are in South Texas. Texas is a HUGE state and we can not get together as much as we would like to so, we enjoy these reunions tremendously.)
On the way back home, we had a little detour in San Antonio, Tex. Kat HAD TO stop at the Mexican Market and get a couple of things! Lol Jake parked on the street while I made a mad dash in and grabbed what I needed. We’ve been to this market plenty of times before so, I knew where to go. In and out in a flash! No time to shop when you have a 30’ Travel Trailer in the street! ????
At last, we made it home and we know our Maggie was happy about that. We turned her into a river rat this trip! She slept for days! As did we. ???? ????
Where to next?? Stay tuned!
Please subscribe, like and don’t forget to hit that little bell so you can receive notifications when we upload a video!
Thanks for watching! ????????

We Visited the WORLD'S LARGEST Gas Station & Convenience Store! (Buc-ee’s, New Braunfels, TX)
When we learned that the largest convenience store in the world was right in our neck of the woods here in Texas, it was a no brainer to check it out before starting our road trip back up north! Buc-cee's is a chain of Texas gas stations known for more than just their clean restrooms ????

Aja's List - Top 10 Bars in New Braunfels
Aja’s List – Top 10 Bars in New Braunfels
1. ) Calahans – While it may not be everyone’s top pick, it’s my version of Cheers. It’s kinda like an old t-shirt, not fancy but just feels good on. They have a little bit of everything – pool, darts, sports, brand new back patio, good beer selection, full bar with daily drink specials, and fantastic pizza. And nothing beats this place on St. Paddy’s day!
2. ) Pour Haus – A recent addition to the NB downtown scene, this place is a one-of-a-kind. You can relax by the fire pits and listen to some great live, local music, chill in the swings at the bar, or try your hand at a wide array of fun bar games like giant Jenga and corn-hole. On the weekends you can usually find a tasty food truck parked outside. You can also bring your pooch to this dog friendly gem!
3. ) AJ’s Ale Haus – Eat your heart out “Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar”! In the mood to sign at the top of your lungs and not have people look at you like you’re crazy? Come to AJ’s on the weekend for some great sing-a-long fun! Make sure to bring a hand-full of $1’s so you can request your favorite song. Celebrating a special occasion? Get them up on stage for a special treat! Speaking of treats, you gotta try the pickle shot. It’s a snack and a drink at the same time! You can also enjoy one of the largest beer selections on tap here. Hot tip: Get here by 9:30pm to make sure you can get a table.
4. ) Phoenix Saloon – A reincarnation of the original saloon, Phoenix kept its old town charm and kicked it up a notch. You can catch your local acoustic favorites on the small stage during the week, and bigger name acts on the main stage during the weekend. Check out the basement to play a game of pool or darts, or host a small private event. They also played off of the original Phoenix’s creation of chili powder by offering up some of the best homemade chili in town – so good it was featured on the Food Network! But unlike the original Phoenix, the women of NB can now be served at the main bar instead of just out the back door. Kid friendly for most shows and non-smoking.
5. ) Kork Wine Bar – In the mood to sip on a great glass of wine, eat a little cheese, and get away from your busy day? Come un-kork and un-wind here! Catching a show at the Brauntex or attending an event at Seekatz and don’t want to smell like smoke when you arrive? This is the perfect spot to start and end your night. If you’re full of useless knowledge, you can also enjoy a game of live trivia during the week.
6. ) Tobacco Haus Cigar Lounge – For the cigar enthusiasts of NB, this is your heaven. Featuring a 650 square foot walk-in humidor, you are sure to find the perfect stogie. But this lounge isn’t just for the cigar smokers – it also features a full bar, 3 weekly Texas Hold’em games, and weekly karaoke.
7.) Black Whale Pub – I have 2 words for you – Bloody Mary. I promise you have never had a drink like this. Not only is it the perfect drink mix, but also comes garnished with a beef stick, cheese stick, pickled goodies, and more! Who needs lunch when you have their signature drink!? If it’s been a while since you’ve stopped by, give it another shot. Recently switched to non-smoking and had quite the renovation.
8.) The Faust – Located at the bottom floor of the Historic Faust Hotel, they recently tricked out their own microbrewery to really pump out some tasty local beers. It’s truly a one-stop-shop, complete with a gourmet menu, full-bar, trivia nights, banquet hall for special occasions, and of course, if you get too sleepy to drive home, you don’t have to go home, you can just stay here.
9.) The Watering Hole – Put on your dancing shoes and boot-scoot down to the Watering Hole. One of the longest continually operating bars in New Braunfels established in 1986, this NB staple features the largest air-conditioned dance floor in town. If you have 2 left feet, come out early on a Friday night and enjoy their free dance lessons. Plenty of bar games to keep you entertained if you aren’t wanting to boogie down. A personal favorite spot of mine to people watch too.
10.) Billy’s Ice House – Bikers and Benefits make Billy’s Ice House round out this Top 10 list. Located right across the street from Gruene Harley Davidson, Billy’s is a chill indoor/outdoor venue with ample seating and a large stage. Billy’s opens up their doors to many non-profits as well, hosting such fun events like Paws and Pin-ups, Locks of Love, and many more. Live music 7 days a week!
Runner-up: Landa Station -- It may look unassuming, but don’t judge this book by its cover. Great for a low-key happy hour, or a fun night of karaoke. Full bar, great outdoor patio, and some of the best burgers in town!
