Beitou, etc. The bright, red arch looks like a rainbow
across the sky. Visitors may enjoy the Riverside Walk

A groundbreaking ceremony today marked the official start of construction on a long-awaited bridge connecting the New Taipei districts of Tamsui and Bali. The Tamkang Bridge is expected to reduce the area’s notorious traffic jams and accommodate a light-rail track. The Tamkang Bridge crosses over the mouth of the Tamsui River to connect Tamsui and Bali. Construction has finally begun, just in time for the local elections next month.The bridge has been stuck in the planning stage for two decades. How to go in Maokong Gondola
From Taipei Main station, ride mrt blue line and drop off at Zhongxiao Fuxing Station or you can ride mrt red line and drop off at Daan Station and then transfer to mrt brown line and then sakay ng pa Taipie Zoo tas exit 2.
How to go in Bali:
From Taipei Main station, ride mrt red line and drop off at Guandu Station. From there, find bus R22 going to Ximen Bus stop.
Taiwan 02 Tamsui & Bali part 1
Taiwan is a very attractive country for people who like to travel around and see interesting places instead of laying on far away or busy beaches.
In the past my family and I only visited the main cities of Taiwan like Taipei, Keelung, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung always carrying our baggage with us.
In recent years we discovered it is more relaxed to stay a couple days in one city before going to the next city and take a local train or regional bus every day to discover smaller places and areas around the bigger cities. Public transport and taxis in Taiwan are relatively cheap compared to the rates in Europe so the daily surprise trips are affordable.
With the video series “Attractive Taiwan – Interesting places” we want to share our impressions of the surprise places we have visited in the past years which can be seen as suggestions to others when planning a holiday to Taiwan.

Onto the Guandu Bridge
So we had to ride onto the Guandu bridge and cross the Tamsui river to get to Pali. Its a steep ride up the ramp but we all made it eventually.
Danjiang Bridge in Taiwan by Zaha Hadid Architects
Construction has begun on the 920m Danjiang Bridge in Taiwan by Zaha Hadid Architects, the world’s longest single-mast, asymmetric cable-stayed bridge.
Spanning the mouth of the Tamsui River that flows through Taipei, the Danjiang Bridge is integral to the infrastructure upgrading program of northern Taiwan.
The new bridge will reduce through-traffic on congested local roads by linking Highway 2 on the river’s eastern side with Highway 15, the West Coast Expressway (Route 61) and the Bali-Xindian Expressway (Route 64) on the western side.
In reducing traffic by 30% on the existing Guandu Bridge 5km upriver, the Danjiang Bridge will significantly improve Taiwan’s northern coast traffic network and also enhance accessibility throughout the region with the Port of Taipei and Taoyuan International Airport.
The Tamsui River estuary is an important natural ecosystem flanked by the urban centres of Tamsui to the East and Bali to the west. The estuary is rapidly growing in popularity with both residents and tourists as a recreational area where people gather each day to watch the sun setting over the Taiwan Strait.
The bridge minimises its visual impact by using a single concrete mast to support its main 450-metre span with dedicated road, cycle and pedestrian lanes. The design also accommodates future expansion of the Danhai Light Rail network across the Tamsui River.

A Quieter Road in Bali, Opposite Tamsui
We rode quite a bit further than Bali and managed to extricate ourselves from the incredible crowd that was on the path. This video is uneventful. It just shows the road and how quiet the road is. When its not crowded I bet the whole road is wonderful to ride on.
