The government of the City of London is older than parliament itself and its Guildhall is a rival to the Palace of Westminster. This makes the Lord Mayor a King in his own palace; but how has this been expressed in architecture?
This lecture looks at the architectural patronage of the City's Lord Mayors from earliest time to the present.
London has always been an architectural laboratory. Arguably it has been home to more invention in building types than any other city on earth. These four lectures look at London’s built environment through some great buildings and their creators and ask why and how has London sustained a reputation for architectural innovation?

Un appassionato lettore come te deve visitare, una volta nella vita, la British Library, l'immensa biblioteca di lettura e conservazione di antichi testi che si trova a Londra, a pochi passi dalla Statione della Metro di Euston. Se non l'hai ancora visitata, ti ci porto io in questo piccolo ma efficace video... da gustarti in attesa del tuo prossimo soggiorno nella meravigliosa Londra!
All'interno della British Library è presente una mostra perenne in cui è possibile visionare i manoscritti antichi. Naturalmente, essendo essi molto delicati, non è permesso fotografare o fare riprese. Ma sul sito ufficiale della biblioteca, trovi una sezione multimediale che ti consente di visualizzare il tutto anche meglio di quanto si possa fare fisicamente (essendo tutti i reperti conservati in penombra).
