Pier Fishing for Beginners - Easy Fishing at the Gulf State Park Pier
The Gulf State Park Pier is a great place to go fishing, and its easy enough for beginners. This pier is located on the Gulf in Gulf Shores AL. As a beginner myself, (this is my third time pier fishing) I like to fish with shrimp and cut bait. Using packaged rigs that have a couple hooks on each. I manage to catch a few croakers, whiting, hard head catfish, and a Gafftopsail catfish. I even caught a bait fish on a sabiki rig! The views are amazing and you might even see a shark or two under the pier. If you are new to pier fishing, try the Gulf State Park Pier. Its easy enough for beginners to catch fish and have fun.

Pier Shark Fishing (Normally PROHIBITED)

Last year started the shark fishing events on the Alabama Gulf State Park Pier in Gulf Shores. Anglers have voiced their opinions on sharks eating their catch and it becoming an issue. Shark fishing is typically prohibited from the pier but is allowed during these special events. We were able to catch a few this night as a group and it was a good time!

Carrabelle FL - little fishin' and shrimpin' town on Gulf coast
Small town USA. Shrimping and fishing on the Gulf of Mexico, the people impacted by BP oil spill and the after effects. This restaurants was awesome, right on the bay, friendly people, shrimping boats tied up at the pier, light warm rain falling, music in the back ground, this is what experiencing the USA is all about.
Life at a slow pace, and the oysters were fantastic as was Cindy's snapper fillet. This is another place where spending a few days to get to know some of the locals and see more of the area would be a great addition to a trip.

Diving the Alabama Gulf Coast
Discover a whole new world under the surface of the Gulf of Mexico with Gulf Shores and Orange Beach diving vacation.
Alabama’s first purpose-sunk ship wreck - The LuLu, a sunken freighter - is 17 nautical miles south of Perdido Pass and Orange Beach (+29° 59' 50 / -87° 33' 00) and joins the area off the Alabama coast that is the site of the largest artificial reef program in the United States. This newest reef wreck is at a perfect depth for beginner diver certification, with 50-foot depth clearance at the top of the wreck. It’s also attractive for the experienced recreational diver at the bottom level depth of 115 feet. Before The LuLu, divers had to travel farther east and farther out to sea, but this great new dive spot is easier to reach and safer to dive.
