The Cyprus Museum
This excellent 45-min film -production of the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute, Ministry of Education and Culture- portrays the creation of the first archaeological museum of Cyprus in the late 19th century, in Lefkosia, and the later establishment of the Cyprus Museum in the early 20th century. Enriched with archival material of the time, the film depicts the historical development of the island, by presenting archaeological sites and finds of archaeological excavations, which are exhibited in the halls of the Cyprus Museum, and cover the period from the early years of human presence on the island (10th millennium BC) until the Roman period.

IUP history Professor Scott Moore along with IUP students travel to the Mediterranean island of Cyprus to participate in the Pyla-Koutsepetria Archaeological Project, a land and sea archaeology survey examining the interaction between the sea and coastal zone on Cyprus.

St Barnabas Manastırı İkon ve Arkeoloji Müzesi
Bağımsız Ortodoks Kilisesinin kurucularından biri olan Aziz Barnabas'ın ismine yapılan Saint Barnabas Manastırı Kıbrıs yarımadasında yer alan en önemli dini yapılardan biridir. Dini kaynakların ve antik yazarların bizlere aktardıklarına dayanılarak, Aziz Barnabas'ın Salamis'te doğduğu ve Suriye'deki Levi sülalesinden gelen Yahudi bir aileden dünyaya geldiği bilinmektedir.
Aziz Barnabas; dini eğitimini Kudüs'te aldığı sıralarda İsa Peygamber'in mucizelerini Bethesda'da görme olanağını bulduğu ve Hıristiyanlığı kabul ettiği M.S. 33 tarihinde, ailesinden kendisine miras kalmış olan ve Salamis'te yer alan arazilerini fakirlere dağıttığını, kendisi için ayırmış olduğu bir arazinin de satışından elde ettiği parayı Kudüs'teki azizlere bağışladığı da bilinmektedir.
M.S. 45 tarihinde Hıristiyanlığı yaymak için Tarsuslu Aziz Paul ve John Mark ile çalışmaya başlayan Aziz Barnabas, M.S. 75 yılında yakalanarak Salamis'te bulunan Sinagog yanında karanlık bir hücreye hapsedilir ve yine aynı gece Salamis'li olan Suriye Yahudileri tarafından önce taşlanır ardından da büyük bir ocağın içinde bulunan odunların üzerine atılarak yakılır.
Cesedin kalıntıları ise yandaşlarının eline geçmemesi için denize atılmak için keten bir kumaşa sarılır. Gerçekleşen bu olayı uzaktan izleyen yandaşları, karanlıktan da yararlanarak Aziz Barnabas'ın cesedini gizlice alır ve bir sanduka içinde Salamis'in Batısında bulunan bir harup ağacının altındaki antik mezara taşırlar. Göğsünün üzerine de beraberinde taşıdığı ve kendisinin yazdığı Aziz Mathews İncilinin kopyasını da koyarak, mezarı kapatırlar.
Cesedin yeri bilinmediğinden uzun yıllar gizli kalır. 432 yıl sonra piskopos Anthemios, mezarı rüyasında gördüğünü söyleyerek, açılmasını ister.
Mezar açıldığında St. Mathews incili dolayısıyla, St. Barnabas teşhis edilmiş olur. Bu keşif sonrasında Piskopos, İstanbul'a giderek İmparator Zeno'yu bilgilendirir ve Kıbrıs kilisesinin özerkliğini kazanır. İmparator, gömütün bulunduğu yerde bir manastır inşa edilmesi için bağışta bulunur. Manastır 477'de inşa edilir.
Manastır bir kilise, avlu ve avlunun üç yanında bir zamanlar papazların yaşadığı odalardan meydana gelmiştir. St. Barnabas kilisesinde çoğunluğu 18. yy'dan kalma zengin bir ikon koleksiyonu bulunmaktadır. Manastırın avlusunda bulunan bazalt değirmen Enkomi yerleşim bölgesinden, diğer sütun ve taşlar ise Salamis'ten gelmiştir. Papazların yaşamlarını sürdürdüğü odalar ise restore edilerek bir Arkeoloji müzesi haline getirilmiştir.
Bölgenin en geniş müzesinde, Kıbrıs'ın Neolitik Döneminden Roma Dönemine dek geniş bir çizgideki tarihsel sürece ait çeşitli eserleri görebilmek mümkündür.

Explore Turkey's multi-layered culture through architecture, sculpture, paintings, mosaics, and illustrated manuscripts. Among many stops on our virtual tour are the archaeological museum in Ankara to look at early cultures; the delightful 10th-century relief sculpture at Akhtamar Island, Lake Van; the astonishing rock reliefs of Yazilkaya, a sacred Hittite site; Ephesus, an important city of the Roman empire; Antioch (Antakya), known for its brilliant mosaics; and Hagia Sophia, a former church and mosque that is now a museum. Other highlights include the frescoes of Cappadocia; the megalomaniacal sculptures found near the peak of Nemrut Dag; and the splendid mosques of the architect Sinan.

The Cypriot wine industry ranks 50th in the world in terms of total production quantity (10,302 tonnes)., and much higher on a per capita basis. Although, chronologically, Cyprus belongs to the Old World of wine producing countries, the industry has gone through changes that place it more on par with the New World. The wine industry is a significant contributor to the Cypriot economy through cultivation, production, employment, export and tourism.
