Korean Treasures come to Oxford - from Seoul National University
Prof Jang Moo Lee, President of Seoul National University visits the University of Oxford on the 17th March 2009 to donate 400 books from the Kyujanggak Archive. This donation was organised by Prof Hi Won Yoon, Vice President of Seoul National University. These include old maps of Korea and Choson Dynasty government records. Dr Sarah Thomas, Head of the Bodleian Library receives the books on behalf of the University of Oxford.
Prof Lee and his colleagues also meet with Dr John Hood, Vice Chancellor of the University of Oxford, and Prof William Dutton and Prof Denis Noble at the Oxford Internet Institute, where they are shown some previous videos produced by Voices from Oxford.

Seoul National University is a national research university located in Seoul, the capital of Korea. It is widely considered to be the most prestigious university in the country.
In its current form, the university was founded in 1946, thus it is the oldest national university of the country. It located on three campuses: the main campus in Gwanak and two additional campuses in Daehangno and Suwon. The university comprises sixteen colleges, one graduate school, and nine professional schools. The student body consists of nearly 17,000 undergraduate and 11,000 graduate students. Since its founding, Seoul National University is widely considered to be the most prestigious university in the country. According to data compiled by KEDI, the university spends more on its students per capita than any other university in the country that enrolls at least 10,000.

The Graduate School of Business offers dual master's degrees with Duke University, ESSEC Business School and Peking University, double-degrees with the MIT Sloan School of Management and Yale School of Management and MBA-, MS- and PhD-candidate exchange programs with universities in ten countries on four continents. Following a government mandate to globalize Korean universities, the university's international faculty head count peaked at 242 or 4% of the total in 2010, but subsequently declined.Seoul National University, or its undergraduate liberal arts college in particular, finds its roots in Keijo Imperial University, one of the Imperial Universities founded by the Japanese Empire. Changdeokgung Palace was the second royal palace built following the construction of Gyeongbukgung Palace in 1405. It was the principal palace for many kings of the Joseon Dynasty, and is the most well-preserved of the five remaining royal Joseon palaces.
Some of the structures inside the palace includes:
- Donhwamun Gate - The main palace gate. Built in 1412, Donhwamun has a two-story pavilion-type wooden structure, and is the largest of all palace gates.
-Geumcheongyo Bridge - Oldest bridge in Seoul. Built 1411.
-Injeongjeon Hall (National Treasure) - the throne hall of Changdeokgung, it was used for major state affairs including the coronation of a new king and receiving foreign envoys.
-Seonjeongjeon Hall - An office for ruling officials, the king held daily meetings with ministers, reported on state affairs and seminars here.
-Huijeongdang Hall - Originally the king's bed chamber, it became his workplace after Seonjeongjeon was deemed too small for conducting routine state affairs. building.
-Daejojeon Hall - Official residence of the queen.
-Juhamnu Pavilion (Kyujanggak) - Royal libraries stood in this area.
-Yeon-gyeongdang Residence - Built in 1827, it was an audience hall modeled after a typical literati house.
Behind the palace lies the Secret Garden - Huwon which was originally constructed for the use of the royal family and palace women. The garden incorporates a lotus pond, pavilions, and landscaped lawns, trees, and flowers.
Changdeokgung was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997.
You can visit 4 palaces and Jongmyo Shrine at a discount ticket price of 10,000 won. It is 14,000 won if purchased separately.

It is close on Mondays.
