UNIQLO FLAGSHIP STORE TOUR, FIFTH AVENUE, NEW YORK CITY - JAPANESE SHOPPING IN NYC!
I had read various articles touting Uniqlo and ordered a few things from their online store, but I didn't feel like my Uniqlo experience was complete until I visited the Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York City.
I like Uniqlo because it's financially accessible. While most stores lining Manhattan's Fifth Avenue are premium priced boutiques and ultra exclusive designer labels, Uniqlo basics cater to every price point. Uniqlo's chic brand and exotic reputation help to give its affordable clothing some added panache in America.
The style is distinctive, yet some looks reminded me of H&M. I tried on a few pairs of pants and a shirt. I love the cut of the clothes, they are not tight but they are fitted to the body. If you're a bit heavy, Uniqlo clothes will make you look 20 pounds lighter.
Uniqlo has several stores in New York City, New Jersey, and California. However, the Japanese brand has ambitious expansion plans. Company officials have established a goal of opening 20 to 30 American stores each year. Ironically, many of the new Uniqlo stores will locate in space vacated by struggling domestic retailers such as GAP and Abercrombie & Fitch.
The Uniqlo Fifth Avenue flagship store covers a huge footprint, taking up several floors of high priced Manhattan real estate. To be sure, the prime store location is part of a broader marketing effort designed to create buzz for the brand and make Uniqlo a household name in America. Reports have indicated that Uniqlo has lost money in America thus far, however the brand is expanding rapidly.
After entering the Uniqlo Fifth Avenue flagship store for the first time, I found it easy to navigate. The shelves were stocked in an organized and functional manner, with colors and sizes easy to find. The store was decorated for the holiday season, with winter promotions in full swing.
Although the store was crowded, it felt roomy because the space was well lit with partial open ceilings. Shoppers could ride an elevator or escalator through the various floors. The escalator ride provided a great bird's eye view of the various mannequin displays.
Although I only bought a pair of jeans, I will absolutely return to Uniqlo in the future. I appreciate the everyday low prices and easy to find selections. Reviews have also said that the clothing is durable and well constructed. Uniqlo, welcome to America!

That night, I walk to a building that some New Yorkers call as A NEW YORK'S INSANE-LOOKING, $4 BILLION TRAIN STATION

World Trade Center is a terminal station on the PATH system. It is located in the World Trade Center complex, within the Financial District neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. It is served by the Newark–World Trade Center line on weekdays and holiday weekends, as well as by the Hoboken–World Trade Center line on weekdays, and is the eastern terminus of both.
The World Trade Center station is located near the site of the Hudson and Manhattan Railroad (H&M)'s Hudson Terminal, which opened on July 19, 1909. In 1961, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey bought the bankrupt H&M system, rebranded it as PATH, and redeveloped Hudson Terminal as part of the World Trade Center. As part of the construction of the World Trade Center, Hudson Terminal was torn down, replaced with the World Trade Center station, and re-opened on July 6, 1971. Following the September 11, 2001 attacks, a temporary station opened in 2003 while the World Trade Center complex was being rebuilt. Work on a permanent station building commenced in 2008. The main station house, the Oculus, opened on March 3, 2016, and the terminal was renamed the World Trade Center Transportation Hub, or World Trade Center for short.
The World Trade Center station has five tracks (three for Hoboken-bound trains, two for Newark-bound trains) and four platforms in the middle of a turning loop. Trains from New Jersey use the loop to turn around and head back to New Jersey. The platforms are located four floors below ground level. The floor immediately above the platforms is occupied by the station's fare mezzanine. The New York City Subway's WTC Cortlandt station is adjacent to and above the mezzanine.
The $4 billion Oculus station house, designed by Santiago Calatrava, consists of white ribs that interlock high above the ground. The interior of the station house contains two underground floors, which house part of the Westfield World Trade Center mall. The transportation hub connects the various modes of transportation in Lower Manhattan, from the Fulton Center in the east to the Battery Park City Ferry Terminal in the west, through the station house. The hub contains connections to various New York City Subway stations, including Chambers Street–World Trade Center/Park Place/Cortlandt Street on the 2, 3, A, C, E, N, R, and W trains and WTC Cortlandt on the 1 train. It is the fifth-busiest transportation hub in the New York metropolitan area.
The Westfield World Trade Center mall is also within the Oculus building. The new station has received mixed reviews: although the hub has been praised for its design, it has also been criticized for its high costs and extended delays.

Yesterday night, the Maison Martin Margiela with H&M collection was celebrated in New York. Mena Suvari, Chace Crawford, Alan Cumming, Helena Christensen, Julianne Moore, Sarah Jessica Parker, Selma Blair, Doutzen Kroes, and Paul Reubens were some of the over 1 000 guests at the spectacular party on 5, Beekman Street.
