Odawara (小田原市), Hakone-Yumoto Station (箱根湯本駅) area, Japan (日本)
Odawara (小田原市/Odawara-shi) countryside and Hakone-Yumoto Station (箱根湯本駅/Hakone-Yumoto-eki) area on our way to Hakone in western Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan (日本) on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015.

Hakone Tozan Bus Ride
The bus ride in Hakone is always a breathtaking experience on account of the lush greens, curved roads, frequent springs and all. It's a random video shoot in my mobile phone. I always look forward for more bus rides in Hakone.

Optionally, the pass also includes a discounted round trip from Tokyo's Shinjuku Station.
popular and attractive way of visiting Hakone is by circling the region with five different means of transport (train, cablecar, ropeway, boat and bus), using the Hakone Free Pass.
The round course outlined below starts and ends in Hakone-Yumoto and circles the Hakone region in the counter-clockwise direction. Of course, it is also possible to follow the course in the opposite direction or to start and end somewhere different.
If you leave early in the morning, it is possible to completed the Hakone round course in a one day trip from Tokyo. However, we recommend allocating two days and one night to your visit, preferably with a stay at a ryokan with hot spring baths.

Japan - Day Trip to HAKONE (1080p HD) | Magda T
DAY TRIP TO HAKONE:
Hakone is well known for being an Onsen (hot spring) haven in Japan. It’s a short train journey away from Tokyo so it makes a perfect destination for a day trip. When visiting an onsen, you need to follow a specific etiquette – in majority of them, no clothes or tattoos are allowed! If you don’t feel comfortable being naked, Hakone Kowakien Yunessun is a ‘swimsuit wearing’ onsen and some of them permit band-aids over tattoos.
As we only had one day, we skipped the onsen experience but there is always another time!
GETTING THERE FROM TOKYO:
• Using HAKONE FREE PASS (2 days pass for Y5.140) can be purchased from ticket vending machines at all Odakyu line stations and also at Shinjuku station West Exit 1F at Odakyu Sightseeing Service centre.
• Take Odakyu Railway to Odawara and change there to Hakone Tozan Train – price of the return ticket is included into the Hakone Free Pass which also covers all the transport in the Hakone area and discounted prices on entry fees to majority of the attractions & restaurants
• From Shinjuku station to Hakone-Yumoto on the ODAKYU ROMANCE CAR (express train 75 mins) with reserved seats but need to buy a supplementary ticket for Y1.090 to addition to regular train tickets - can be purchased at the same places as the pass & also online
OUR ITINERARY:
????Tokyo Shinjuku to Hakone-Yumoto on the Odakyu Romance Car
????Taking Hakone Tozan Railway at Hakone-Yumoto to Chokoku-no-mori (for better views seat on the left hand side)
????Hakone Open Air Museum (make sure to have mini ‘onsen’ foot bath there)
????Taking Hakone Tozan Cable Car from Gora to Sounzan Station - it was a short 5-10 mins walk from the museum to Gora – if you are not short of time you can visit the Hakone Gora Park (free access with the pass)
????Taking the cable car (Hakone Ropeway) from Sounzan to Owakudani (only 9 minute ride)
????The Great Boiling Valley at Owakudani – explore the volcanic valley up in the mountain with active sulphur springs and try their signature black eggs (kuro-tamago). Legend holds that eating one of these eggs can extend your life by 7 years!
????Take the Hakone Ropeway to Togendai (when we visited that part of the ropeway was under construction and replacement busses were running instead)
????Pirate ship cruise across Lake Ashi from Togendai (free with the Hakone Pass) - from Togendai walk down to the edge of the lake to the cruise pier (timetable can be found here ) - great views of the Kuzuryu & Hakone Shrines.
You can disembark the ship at Hakone-machi or Moto-Hakone.

Hakone Travel Guide: Day Trip from Tokyo using the Hakone Free Pass | The Travel Intern
Check out our Hakone Travel Guide:
Being in Hakone felt a lot like exploring Disneyland; think pirate ships, old trains that climb mountains and cable ropeways that hover over misty volcanic valleys. The diversity of landscape almost felt almost as though everything was carefully planned and sectioned out into the different worlds like in Disneyland.
Hakone to many locals is also a favourite weekend getaway; an onsen town with great views of Mount Fuji as well as old hiking paths with lined with 400 year old cedar trees.
If that sounds like your kind of getaway — even if it’s just a quick detour from Tokyo — here’s our guide to a fuss-free day trip in Hakone.
Get your Hakone Free Pass:
0:14 - Hakone Jinjo Shrine
0:19 - Hakone Shrine & Torri of Peace
One of the most iconic symbols of Hakone is the grand Torii gate that sits on the edge of Lake Ashinoko. Probably more famous than the shrine itself as it takes a bit of climbing to get to.
0:23 - Hakone Tozan Bus
0:26 - hakone Checkpoint
0:35 - Ancient Cedar Avenue
One of the best preserved parts of old Hakone. A 500m path lined with tall cedar trees used during the Edo period where travellers mainly walked on foot between Tokyo and Kyoto.
0:45 - Hakone Sightseeing Cruise
0:49 - Lake Ashinoko
Heart of Hakone and one of the 5 famous lakes in the Fuji-izu region. You might even see Mount Fuji on a clear day.
0:54 - Hakone Ropeway
Scenic ropeway towards Owakudani
1:00 - Owakudani
Also known as the Valley of Hell with the volcanic gasses and ponds created during the eruption of Mount Hakone.
1:13 - Hakone Tozan Cable Car
1:18 - Odawara Castle
15th century castle — a famous spot for its cherry blossoms in late March to April.

What to See & Do in HAKONE, JAPAN
Thank you for watching! Please hit that Subscribe button if you enjoyed this video :)
Traveling around the Hakone region in Japan was absolutely beautiful! The whole region is picture perfect and completely worth the quick trip from Tokyo. The name of the game here is relaxation, so be sure to find an onsen when you visit.
As I mentioned at the end of the video, I highly recommend picking up a Hakone Free Pass in either Tokyo or Odawara Stations. We chose the two day pass that did NOT include the train trip from Tokyo. They have an option that includes the travel to/from Tokyo, but we were not going back to Tokyo (stay tuned for our next stop to Kyoto). This all-access pass was worth it. We ended up taking the cable car and boat ride twice and it was such a breeze to run and jump on/off with the pass.

Getting to Hakone - Japan Vlog
Hiiiiiii!
Today we're headed to Hakone, Japan! The journey from Tokyo to Hakone was a bit complicated so along with a vlog there, I thought it might be helpful to understand how we arrived there!
From downtown Tokyo we took:
1. Shibuya Station to Chuorinkan Station: via Denentoshi Line
2. Chuorinkan - Odawara Station: via Odakyu Line
3. Odawara - Hakone Yumoto Station: via Hakone-Tozan Line
4. Hakone Tozan Bus to Hakone Jinja (Torii Gates)
日本語:
1. 田園都市線で渋谷駅から中央林間駅まで
2. 小田原線で中央林間駅から小田原駅まで
3. 箱根登山線で小田原駅から箱根湯本駅まで
4. 箱根登山バスから箱根神社まで
The pass we bought to get access to all of these is called the Hakone Free Pass or 箱根フリーパス. It costs 5000 yen or about $45.00 USD.
Enjoy Hakone! Thanks for watching!

Hakone Tozan Line 箱根登山鉄道線
The Hakone Tozan Line is one of the oldest and steepest mountain railways in Japan. The route is located in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park and it is very popular way for tourists to get around the Hakone area. It extends from Odawara (26m) to Gora (553m) with a total lenght of 15 kilometers. Maximum gradient: 8%. The entire line is single-tracked, there are passing loops at all stations.
Train operations are divided in two parts. The lower section between Odawara and Hakone-Yumoto is technically an extension of the Odakyu Odawara Line and has the narrow gauge of 1067mm. It is electrified with 1500 V DC. Many limited express services from Shinjuku in Tokyo have through operations to Hakone-Yumoto. Local trains usually operate in isolation with a few services continuing to Shin-Matsuda. Local trains operate about every 15 minutes, limited express trains run every 15 or 30 minutes.
The upper section to Gora has the normal gauge of 1435mm.
All trains are local and operate about every 13 minutes. (remember: all single-tracked!)
It is electrified with 750 V DC. A special 'feature' are the three switch-backs which were built to avoid longer tunnels or higher gradients - zig-zag configurations at which the trains need to reverse.
The small section between Iriuda and Hakone-Yumoto is dual-tracked so that the narrow gauge trains can reach their depot in Iriuda.
The Hakone Tozan Railway has a partnership with the 'Rhätische Bahn', a mountain railway in Suisse Alps. Some trains are nicknamed 'Bernina' or 'St. Moritz'.
