SALVADOR, BAHIA - Before ever going to Brazil, Salvador was one of the top cities I wanted to visit - and finally this is the time. In this all out ultimate street food tour of Salvador we’ll focus especially on Afro-Brazilian food and culture, the heart of Salvador, Bahia. The people were amazing, the food was delicious. #Salvador #BrazilianFood #Acarajé #streetfood
Sao Joaquim Market - To begin this street food tour we started in the morning at Sao Joaquim Market, one of the main fruits and vegetables market, with restaurant and food as well. One thing you’ll see all over the market, different from other parts of Brazil is dendê oil, the orange palm oil originally from West Africa.
Recanto Da Lucia - At the market we ate breakfast at Recanto Da Lucia, a small local Brazilian food stall serving amazing dishes like feijoada and pirão. Total price - 80 BRL ($20.61)
Dona Susana - Next up on this Afro-Brazilian food tour of Salvador, we drover to Dona Susana, a restaurant under the highway, with a million dollar view. The main dish to eat in Bahia is Moqueca Bahiana, a stew of fish or seafood in palm oil and coconut milk. Her’s was outstanding as was the ensopado de camarão and her version of pirão. One of the most stunning locations so far in Brazil. Total price - 87 BRL ($22.41)
Pelourinho - This is the center of the historic city of Salvador, with a distinct Portuguese style and influence. If you look around, you might think you’re in Portugal.
Capoeira - Pelourinho is a center of art and culture and I had a chance to learn about Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art, but a dance at the same time. It’s amazing to watch and they even volunteered me to stand as they came dangerously close to kicking me!
Elevador Lacerda - In Pelourinho you’ll also find the Elevador Lacerda, which takes you from lover Salvador to the upper part of Salvador.
Price - .15 BRL ($0.03) per person
Mercado Modelo - One of the main central old city markets in Salvador, Bahia is Mercado Modelo, and while most of the market is pretty touristy, Jacibar on the outside serves up delicious local dishes. We ordered Xinxin de Galinha, Bobó de camarão, and Caruru. It was an incredible meal. Total price - 180 BRL ($46.37)
Tambores e Cores - Samba beats represent Salvador, Bahia, and the thundering drums are a must see when you’re in Bahia, Brazil.
Boteco Di Janela - In the evening we went to Boteco Di Janela, a bar and restaurant, friendly owners, and delicious seafood. We ate sarapatel - a blood stew, and sururu - small local mussels.
Acarajé da Ivone - If there’s one Brazilian street food snack you have to eat in Salvadar, it’s Acarajé, a life-changing bun of blackeyed peas deep fried in palm oil and stuffed with vatapa, caruru, shrimp, and salad. It’s is unbelievable and the owners at Acarajé da Ivone were equally as friendly and hospitable. I also had an Abara, the same thing except the black eyed pea fritter is steamed instead of fried. Price - 8 BRL ($2.06) per
Salvador, Bahia, in Brazil, exceeded my expectations - the food and people were outstanding and made it a city and destination I will never forget. What a stunning combination of natural beauty, food, and hospitality.

BELÉM, BRAZIL - What an amazing city for food lovers - so many unique dishes, foods, ingredients from the Amazon, and so many amazingly friendly and hospitable people. This was one of the best days of my trip to Brazil.
Ver-o-peso Market - One this Amazonian street food tour of Belem, we started at the market, one of the must visit attractions in the city. It’s all you could want in an Amazon market - full of freshwater fish, herbs, vegetables, and fruits out of control.
Jambu Cachaça - After walking around the fish market section and seeing some of the amazingly brightly colored chilies, I was introduced to Jambu Cachaça, Brazil’s sugarcane liquor spiced up seriously with jambu - an Amazon tongue numbing flower and leaves. Wow, it’s serious.
Beef soup - 6 BRL ($.155) - We stopped an a friendly man selling Brazil nuts, and right then, a lady came around selling soups for breakfast. We had a beef soup, very hearty and delicious. I tried the jambu flower for the first time, so strong and so good. We then ate some Brazil nuts, a superfood packed with nutrition.
Fruit juice - There’s nothing like Amazon fruits and here’s the juices we tried: Cupuaçu, Cacao, Bacuri, Acerola
Box da Eliana e Kelly - And here’s where this Amazon street food tour in Brazil got out of control. Our friends in Belem had organised with Eliana, from Box da Eliana e Kelly to host us for an amazing Amazon food lunch, where all their friends at the market each cooked their speciality and brought it to the table. There was so much good food and so much love I could hardly believe it. Lots of the Belem Amazon foods contained tucupi (sauce from wild manioc), jambu flowers and leaves, and Pirarucu fish.
Thank you Eliana! None of the amazing Ladies would accept payment. Please go meet them in Belém!
Tacacá Da Diva - 4 pm is the best time in Belem to eat one of the most amazing street food in the city, and I would say one of the best street foods in Brazil - Tacacá, I still can’t believe how good it is, and how it’s not loved all over the world! We also had Vatapá. Price - 13 BRL ($3.35) per bowl
Rosário Lanches - Finally to finish this Amazon street food tour of Belem, Brazil, we went to Rosário Lanches, a legendary stall. We tried both their roasted pork let and their hot dog, both of which were incredibly delicious.
What am unforgettable day of Amazonian food in Belém, Brazil. Thank you to everyone who made it happen and to everyone for preparing the amazing food.

PETRÓPOLIS BRAZIL - TOUR of BOHEMIA BREWERY, IMPERIAL MUSEUM, and BAUERNFEST - 2019 vlog
Welcome to Petrópolis, Brazil! This is the Imperial City, known for its royal history and located only an hour and a half from Rio De Janeiro. In fact, this city is the former retreat of Brazil's royal family.
We visit the Imperial Museum, a neoclassical palace that was once the residence of Emperor Pedro II. Dom Pedro II ruled for 49 years and, in at least forty summers, he remained in Petrópolis to escape the Rio De Janeiro heat. We tour grounds and gardens of the palace.
Next we visit the Cathedral of Petrópolis, a Gothic Revival cathedral that dominates the skyline.
We finish the day at the Bauernfest (Festival of the German Settlers) a German heritage festival complete with German sausage, beer, and music held here every June. Petrópolis has a large German heritage population and much of the architecture is reminiscent of Germany.
Next, we visit Cervejaria Bohemia (Bohemia Brewery), the oldest brewery in Brazil established in 1853. We taste the different types of beers and join the interactive journey through the evolution of beer through the ages. Prost!

Village Food in AMAZON RAINFOREST - Lemongrass Ants + EXOTIC Energy Drinks! | Manaus, Brazil!

Thanks to Guilherme ( for taking us around Brazil. #Brazil #Amazon #AmazonFood
MANAUS, BRAZIL - During my food trip to Brazil there was no place I wanted to visit more than the Amazon Rainforest. We flew to Manaus (if you look at a map, Manaus is directly in the heart center of the Amazon). The jungle, the unique dishes and fruits, and the people made it incredible.
Exotic fruit tasting - One of the things that you have to do when you’re in Brazil, especially in the Amazon is sample all the unique and indigenous fruits of the region, some that are only available there. We started with mari-mari, an amazing long pod fruit and have inga (ice cream bean fruit) and biribá - wild sugar apple. All the fruit - 10 BRL ($2.55)
Manaus is a pretty big city, especially for being in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest. They have a big market, full of fruits, vegetables and fish. We headed straight for some tucumã, a type of palm tree fruit that’s essential in the local diet.
Jenipapo - Along the way we also tried some jenipapo, a pretty unique fruit.
Tucumã sandwiches - Sandwich shop owners better take note! Tucumã sandwiches are a true Amazonian food and they are delicious. Along with the palm fruit they were paired with cheese and fried sweet banana. It’s a perfect breakfast and way to start the day in the Amazon. Price - about 10 BRL ($2.55) per sandwich
Tambaqui fish - Tambaqui is a fish from the Amazon that’s known for having ribs - seriously almost like pork ribs. We decided to get a fish to bring to the village since we weren’t sure what they’d have al the village.
Amazon village - We didn’t really have a plan, we were just going to find a boat driver and ask him to take us to a village and see if anyone could cool. So we got a boat, and our boat driver asked if they were home and if we could invite ourselves in. We arrived completely unplanned and unannounced and it turned out to be an outstanding learning experience and fun time with an amazing family in the Amazon.
Along with the food we brought, the family mixed up about 4 different exotic drinks - some of them known in the Western world as ingredients in trendy energy drinks - but here in the Amazon of Brazil they are consumed regularly.
It was such an awesome Brazilian Amazonian food meal with the family followed by a time of drumming and dancing, football, and finally a swim in the river. It was an extraordinary day in the Amazon of Brazil.

10. Teatro Amazonas in Manaus
Teatro Amazonas or Amazon Theatre is an opera house located in Manaus, in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest. It was built during the heyday of rubber trade using materials from all over the world, with furniture from Paris, marble from Italy, and steel from England. On the outside of the building, the dome was covered with 36,000 decorated ceramic tiles painted in the colors of the Brazilian national flag.
9. Fernando de Noronha
Fernando de Noronha is a beautiful archipelago with pristine beaches, landscapes and wildlife, situated 354 km (220 miles) off the northeastern coast in Brazil. The archipelago was discovered by Amerigo Vespucci in 1503 and temporarily occupied by the Dutch and French before Portugal established dominion in 1737. Today only the largest of the 21 islands is inhabited with a population of about 3,500.
8. Bonito
For ecotourists, Bonito is the jumping off point for some of the most unique natural attractions in Brazil, including stunning waterfalls and caves. However, its most popular draw is its extremely clear waterways, where you can swim with fish. And for the most adventurous, there is Abismo Anhumas, where visitors can rappel to the bottom of a cavern and walk among stalagmites and other cave formations. Visitors can also choose to snorkel or even dive in the cavern’s waters, which contain even more otherworldly formations.
7. Historic Center of Olinda
Another well preserved colonial city, Olinda is located on the Brazil’s northeastern coast, just north of Recife. Olinda is a colorful city, with its red-roofed white buildings that contrast with the blue of Brazil’s north Atlantic coast. The city features a number of major touristic attractions, such as a historic downtown area, churches, and the famous Carnival of Olinda.
6. Salvador Beaches
Salvador is the capital of the state of Bahia, with an attractive colonial town, a vibrant musical scene and loads of exceptional beaches all around. The beaches range from calm inlets, ideal for swimming, diving and sailing, as well as open sea inlets with strong waves, popular with surfers.
5. Pantanal
The Pantanal is the world’s largest wetland, lying mostly in Western Brazil but extending into Bolivia and Paraguay as well. Famous for its wildlife, it is one of Brazil’s major tourist attractions. Unlike the Amazon rainforest, in the Pantanal you are virtually guaranteed to actually see the wildlife. Capybara and the Yacare Caiman are present in the millions.
4. Rio Carnival
There are carnival celebrations in virtually every corner of Brazil, the best-known ones taking place in Recife together with the neighboring Olinda and Salvador. But the biggest and most famous carnival is undoubtedly the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. The Rio Carnival attracts two million people per day on the streets and almost half a million foreigners during its 4 day celebration.
3. Amazon River
At approximately 6,400 km (4,000 miles) the Amazon River is the second longest river in the world, just slightly shorter than the Nile, and the largest river by volume. The Amazon has over 3,000 recognized species of fish and new species are still being discovered. The Amazon Basin is covered by half of the planet’s remaining rainforests.
2. Iguaçu Falls
One of the great natural wonders of the world, Iguaçu Falls is situated on the border between Brazil and Argentina. The waterfall system consists of 275 falls along the Iguazu River. The most impressive of them all is the Devil’s Throat a U-shaped with a height of 82 meter (269 ft). The falls can be reached from the cities Foz do Iguaçu in Brazil and Puerto Iguazú in Argentina, as well as from Ciudad del Este in Paraguay.
1. Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro
Christ the Redeemer is the famous statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro. Located at the peak of the 700 meters (2,300 ft) Corcovado mountain, it provides a sweeping panorama from the interior of Guanabara bay to the north, to Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas to the south.

Family Travel in Brazil – First Time American Visitors
It is safe to bring your family travel to Brazil? Watch American grandparents tell you their true opinion. Our family came all the way from Nevada and Utah to Salvador, Bahia Brazil. We spent 9 days showing them around Salvador and they loved it. We went to Salvador’s historical district called Pelourinho, Elevador Lacerda, Igreja de São Francisco, and Tuesday night Olodum drumming in Pelourinho. We also ate some great food from street venders. Salvador has the most beautiful beaches, markets and great shopping. Grandpa’s favorite place was Pelourinho but the kids favorite place was Big Jump! Where we had a sleep over and played all night. Overall my family was very impressed, happy, safe, well fed and entertained. They love Brazil and want to come back. Video 100

???? Mom's 'Care' Went Too Far:
Hey, I'm Vanessa and I've just graduated from high school. Something's happened that has entirely changed my plans for the future life. My parents offered to celebrate my graduation with a trip to Brazil. We went there 12 years ago and loved it. Why not do it again, after all.
While I was packing, I found an old diary of mine. I thumbed through it with enthusiasm, hoping to relieve childhood memories of the trip. One entry described a trip to a local cafe where we tried a delicious dish called Ancient Brazil. I was hit with a wave of longing. I wanted to try it again!
During our flight mom and dad were revising the plans for the trip and kept saying that we needed to hike to Pico de Neblina, see a soccer game, travel to the canon and of course, go to to Copacabana
And all I was thinking about was the 'Ancient Brazil; and eating it again. I couldn't wait! As soon as we landed I talked my parents into going to that place. We were there soon enough. A turn, another turn, a little alley and...
Oh no. The place wasn't there. The spot was occupied by a surfing shop. Such a shame. The shop keeper said the little cafe had closed a few years back. He also said that some of the best traditional dishes are served in Salvadore and recommended a place. In Salvador we went sight-seeing first. The guide was lively and interesting, but my thoughts kept trailing to my Ancient Brazil.
Finally, we were in a restaurant. But the menu didn't have the familiar name in it. The waiter also said they don't have it. What a shame, take two!
Then my parents did something wonderful. They offered to introduce a gastronomic theme to our trip and go on a quest searching for my beloved dish through the city. That was wow!
We've dined through a plethora of places over the next week, but I couldn't find what I was looking for. There was only one name on our list, an I hoped it would deliver.
I told the cook about my quest for Ancient Brazil, but he shook he had. Then he said if I knew the ingredients, he'd cook it for us.
Yes! I had them listed in my diary. But I didn't know what the sauce was made of. The chef took the list and went to the kitchen. My desired dish was finally in front of me! I gave it a try and then another. It just wasn't IT.
In a day we were home and the vacation is over. It was a wonderful trip all in all, but the taste of disappointment was there on my tongue. Then one day my mom ran into my room yelling for me to turn on the TV, now. There was a new brazilian place opening in town, which was run by Dilon Cook, a famous chef. I was there in half an hour.
I was sat at a comfortable table and I asked to see the chef. But the waiter said that Mr. Cook never sees the guests, that was his rule. I had to share my story with the waiter and told him of my long search for a particular dish and of my hope they'd cook it for me if they didn't have it on the menu. They didn't, and the waiter said, they didn't do custom food orders either.
I was left alone, disappointed and frustrated. My last chance just went flying out the window. Suddenly, a young cook named Albert, as Iearned later, approached. he said he'd overheard a bit of our talk with the waiter and suggested I try and apprentice as a cook in the place and I could probably recover the recipe. I was extatic at this idea. All I had to do was fix a few formalities and that was it.
That very day I was hired and started working with Albert. Things were looking good, but there still was the question of the sauce. I didn't know its ingredients. So Albert suggested we spend a weekend in the library, searching the net and books on Brazilian cuisine.

Recife Living & Porto de Galinhas - Travel Deeper Brazil (Ep. 14)
Recife, Brazil -
It's a quiet morning on the beach in the Boa Viagem neighborhood of Recife.
And while you're likely to run into a few fisherman and beachgoers, you won't find many people actually in the water here,
As it's said, this is the most dangerous beach in the world do to the heavy shark population just offshore.
And as much as I'd love to jump in and prove it, I decided to skip the swim and head downtown to see what life's like on land in the Capital city of Pernambuco.
The historical center is lined with colorful buildings and cheerful people.
Frevo music is in the air and signs of carnaval are everywhere.
Recife and neighboring Olinda, host one of the best carnival celebrations in the country and no matter when you go, you'll witness the setup or remains of the year's big event.
One of the main attractions during Carnaval here are the Bonecos Gigantes or Giant Puppets, and I just so happened to followed a guy into the Giant Puppet embassy to see the incredible collection of wood and paper mache figurines on display.
The puppets are usually famous celebrities, athletes and public figures and are carried like floats during the local parades.
They're a little bit creepy but entertaining to say the least.
That afternoon I had the opportunity to do something really special.
A local friend invited me to an after-school program that she's involved with in Recife's largest Favela of Brasilia Teimosa.
The group is called Driblando Crack and it uses sports like soccer to help kids in the community avoid drugs and trafficking.
We spent the afternoon hanging out, talking about life in Recife and of course, playing a little futebol.
After an awesome time with the crew, I made my way over to catch a sunset boat tour through downtown Recife.
Our large pontoon boat cruised through the wide canals and rivers as I took in all my surroundings.
And while I wouldn't consider it to be the venice of South America as some have labeled it, it was great to see the city from many different perspectives on day one.
The next morning I was up early to go on a little adventure. I borrowed my friend's car and set out on a day trip to Porto de Galinhas.
The first thing you notice upon arrival in the small beach town, is that the people of Porto do Galinhas or Port of Chickens really love their name.
Besides the tacky bird figures everywhere, the beach itself is long and beautiful, and a natural reef just offshore makes for great snorkeling and scuba diving.
I spent the afternoon just relaxing in the sand before making the hour and a half ride back to the city.
Luckily for me, I made it just in time to meet up with friends for some traditional Brazilian nightlife… Karokee!

2nd World University 3x3 Basketball Championship 2014 in Salvador, Brazil
SALVADOR - After 4 full days of competitions, the 2nd World University 3x3 Basketball Championship 2014 came to end yesterday 21 September, in Salvador, Brazil. More than 1,000 fans attended the WUC Arena, set up by the beach of Pituba, to watch the games and cheer for the Brazilian teams and the other participants as well. The Last day started with the semi-finals in the morning to gradually end with an exhilarating performance from France and Brazil as the French girls won the women’s competition and the Brazilian guys the men’s.
In the women’s semi-finals, Brazil 1 defeated Italy 17:14, while France beat China 1 with 16:14. In the men’s semi-finals, France narrowly hopped over Serbia with a tight score of 22:20, in what was one of the most exciting matches decided in extra time. Brazil 1 qualified for the final after beating Argentina in a classic South-American clash with a final score of 15:08.
Before the big decisions, the WUC stopped for a quick break and opened the court floor for one more cultural attraction as happened in the previous days of the competition. This time the athletes, volunteers and the public had the opportunity to show their dance skills with a Zumba dance.
After the break, Italy (W) and Serbia (M), the current champions from 2012, got onto the court to battle for the bronze medals of this year’s edition. The Italian girls faced team China 1, which they won after a tight game putting a 21:20 on the scoreboard. Team Serbia played against Argentina and finished the score with a 20:15.
In the women’s final, France faced the 4 girls from Brazil 1 on their path towards the gold medal, plus the public who obviously was supporting the Brazilian girls. Nevertheless, the French team managed well the match and became for the first time the champion of the WUC 3x3 Basket, with a final score of 16:06.
The men’s final saw both nations facing off again. The French team had Thomas Laurent, one of the best players of the WUC and also of the 3x3 World Tour Series. But host Brazil got that little extra from the cheering crowd and joined all forces to beat the French 14:11 pocketing the gold.
As usual in 3x3 championships, the WUC in Salvador had the Individual competitions too. Previously, the women competed against each other in the shootout challenge. Alessandra Tava (ITA) was the most successful one winning the gold medal, Zheng Ying (CHN) got the silver and Ana Cautu (ROU) bronze. The girls then joined the men for the free throw pursuit challenge. Only one girl made it to the top 3, Franciele Nascimento (BRA) took the bronze. Wu Di (CHN) finished with the gold and silver was for Thomas Laurent (FRA). After yesterday’s men’s final the men participated in the dunk competition as well. Jordan Burg (BRA) guaranteed the 1st place, Ivan Popovic (SRB) ended in 2nd place and Eric Camillo (BRA) landed on 3rd.
Around 100 student-athletes from 12 countries (Brazil, Argentina, China, Slovenia, Israel, Japan, Russia, France, Uganda, Italy, Romania and Serbia) took part in this 2nd WUC edition, from 18 to 21 September. More than 50 bilingual volunteers helped the OC to offer the best services to all participants. The next edition (3rd) will take place in Beijing, China, in 2016.
“CBDU and Brazil are really happy for the opportunity we had to host this competition. We did our very best to offer the best. We thank all the delegations who came to participate with us and give special thanks to the volunteers. Without them it would have been way harder to organize this WUC”, Marcelo Salvador, the 2014 OC President commented.
This was the 3rd international university competition in Brazil this year. The active FISU Member Association CBDU previously staged the 12th WUC Triathlon (Brasilia – April) and the 6th WUC Rugby Sevens (São José dos Campos – August). In December Brazil is organizing the inaugural International University Beach Games, in Maceió.
