This film features a journey on the Hamburg S-Bahn line S1 from Hamburg Flughafen (Airport) to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof (main railway station). It begins at the Airport with the escalator ride down to the S-Bahn platform, and then views from the platform of the S-Bahn trains. This is followed by views from the window of the train of the journey. The film ends at Hamburg Hauptbahnhof with the S1 train departing the station and then a view of the station's overground lines and platforms.

Hamburg Hauptbahnhof is the main railway station for the German city of Hamburg and is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 1 station. It was opened in 1906 to replace 4 terminal stations. Hamburg Hauptbahnhof is operated by DB Station&Service AG. With an average of 450,000 passengers a day, the station is the busiest in Germany and after the Gare du Nord in Paris, the second busiest in Europe.
The station is a through station with island platforms and is a major transportation hub, connecting long distance trains, like the some Intercity-Express lines, to the underground rail network of the Hamburg U-Bahn and S-Bahn. It is situated in the city centre, in the Hamburg-Mitte borough. A part of the building is a shopping centre.
This film features footage of passenger trains that are local, regional, national and also S-Bahn services, all at Hamburg Hauptbahnhof.

Zugverkehr im Hamburger Hauptbahnhof
Der Hamburger Hauptbahnhof ist der wichtigste Eisenbahnknoten von Hamburg und ist teils mit bis zu 500.000 Reisenden täglich, der meistfrequentierte Fernbahnhof der Deutschen Bahn.
Er beherbergt zusätzlich zwei U-Bahnhöfe (Hauptbahnhof Nord bzw. Süd) der Hamburger Hochbahn und ist Station der S-Bahn.
Für die repräsentative Gestaltung des Bahnhofes wurde 1900 ein Wettbewerb ausgeschrieben, den die Architekten Heinrich Reinhardt und Georg Süßenguth aus Charlottenburg gewannen. Kaiser Wilhelm II. bewertete ihren ersten Entwurf als „einfach scheußlich“, er musste überarbeitet werden.
Halle und Empfangsgebäude:
Der daraufhin überarbeitete Plan war monumentaler und betonte von außen die gewaltigen 73 Meter Spannweite der Bahnsteig-halle. Die Halle ist 150 Meter lang, insgesamt 114 Meter breit und bis zu 37 Meter hoch. Das von zwei 45 Meter hohen Türmen mit quadratischem Querschnitt flankierte Empfangsgebäude wurde mit einer Brücke bzw. dem „Nordsteg“ quer durch die Bahnsteighalle an die Nordseite gebaut. Am südlichen Ende der Halle läuft innen der schmalere Südsteg als Fußgängerbrücke über die Gleise und außen die breite Straßenbrücke des Steintordamms, die als kurzes Bindeglied zwischen der Mönckebergstraße und der Adenauerallee wirkt. Die Halle wird als ein gelungenes Zitat des Palais des Machines der Pariser Weltausstellung von 1889 angesehen. Der Bahnhof ist auf 800 Stahlbetonrammpfählen tiefgegründet und gehört zu den ersten größeren Bauten mit Stahlbetonpfählen im norddeutschen Raum.

With an average of 480,000 passengers a day, it is Germany's busiest railway station and the third-busiest in Europe after the Gare du Nord and Gare de Châtelet – Les Halles in Paris.
The station is a through station with island platforms and is one of Germany's major transportation hubs, connecting long-distance Intercity-Express routes to the city's U-Bahn and S-Bahn rapid transit networks. It is centrally located in Hamburg in the Hamburg-Mitte borough. The Wandelhalle shopping centre occupies the north side of the station building.
Hamburg, officially the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, is the second-largest city of Germany as well as one of the country's 16 constituent states, with a population of roughly 1.8 million people. Former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, who governed Germany for eight years, came from Hamburg.
The city is a major international and domestic tourist destination. It ranked 18th in the world for livability in 2016. The Speicherstadt and Kontorhausviertel were declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 2015.
Hamburg is a major European science, research, and education hub, with several universities and institutions. Among its most notable cultural venues are the Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle concert halls. It gave birth to movements like Hamburger Schule and paved the way for bands including The Beatles. Hamburg is also known for several theatres and a variety of musical shows. St. Pauli's Reeperbahn is among the best-known European entertainment districts.

Hamburg has an interesting central railyway station containing 2 bridges over the railway tracks. The bridges serve as elevated and covered streets that are home to tens of shops, bars and restaurants. This way the railway station is less of a barrier for pedestrians who wish to cross the inner city of Hamburg from the east to the west.

Trainspottting at Hamburg Hauptbahnhof Pt1 - CAMT 014
A day of train spotting at Hamburg Hauptbahnhof in Germany 2016. We saw some local S Bahn trains, some DB Class 112 and 146 locos pulling double decker carriages and some ICE and international trains to Denmark, Austria and the Czech Republic.

Die Bahnhofsmission Hamburg ist eine ökumenische und soziale Einrichtung an den Hamburger Fernbahnhöfen und das seit über 116 Jahren. Ihre Aufgabe ist, akut hilfebedürftigen Menschen zur Seite zu stehen.
Fast 90 Mitarbeiter/innen garantieren eine 24Std. Präsenz an 365 Tagen im Jahr. Die Grundlage des Arbeitsauftrages der Bahnhofsmission ist das christliche Selbstverständnis der Nächstenliebe.
Die Zielgruppen sind alle Menschen, die sich am Bahnhof aufhalten und sich in akuten Notlagen befinden. Zurzeit sind dies Reisende und Menschen, die sich aufgrund von sozialen, wirtschaftlichen oder psychischen Problemen an die Bahnhofsmission wenden.
Die Bahnhofsmission hat die Funktion einer städtischen Sozial-Ambulanz. Dies bedeutet, dass hier Erstversorgung stattfindet, in Form von Gesprächen, Kriseninterventionen, kleinen Sachhilfen etc. Das Arbeitsfeld am Bahnhof beinhaltet auch die Hilfe für Menschen mit massiven existentiellen Problemen wie Wohnungslosigkeit, Mittellosigkeit, Desorientierung und psychischen Störungen.
