NOVATO, CALIFORNIA HISTORY
A film about the town where I grew up... opening historic images of Novato Horsemen are featured, an organization that embodies the pioneer spirit of adventure in the American West and has been a part of the Marin County community since 1942. It co-sponsored Novato's original Western Weekend Parade & Rodeo until 1978, which was the largest attended affair in Novato. The club is currently one of the largest horsemen associations in California but unfortunately, it is also one of the last remaining active horse clubs in a county which once hosted many barns and stables. As land values skyrocket, Novato Horsemen members strive to withstand progress to keep Novato and Marin County's horse heritage alive for future generations of children and adults.
The club, which consists of over 300 senior and junior members from the five surrounding Northern Bay Area counties, currently participates in a variety of cattle events, trail rides, and social affairs, as well as horsemanship education at the Horsemen's own facility. Horse owner or not, most activities are open to all within the community. Membership dues are kept low so anyone can participate. Members also donate their time to all activities, as well as maintaining the clubhouse facilities, arenas and grounds. If you do not wish to be an active member, please consider donating to help keep our heritage alive and thriving... novatohorsemen.com/

Reading Old Fort Hamilton Signs; Food Bank Review at end; Novato, California
There are still a lot of evidence from the old Air Force base and Army base. Without a guide who can explained what happened here, I'm guessing that the Air Force Base was next to the Army Base. I don't believe the Air Force built first and then they changed over to Army control.
It seems like these military bases have to remain mostly abandoned for 50 years after they are disbanded so the military can hold the option of moving back in if another war requires more bases. When I was in the military, I had to remain in reserve for about 7 years in case another war required me.
The food bank in South Novato is very close to the local library and is held every Sunday. I was just hanging out near the library and noticed people gathering to collect food, so I just joined in.
Hamilton Pool Re-Opening 2010
The Hamilton Pool was built in 1935 when Hamilton Field was considered the finest military airfield in the U.S. By 2008 the Pool was weathered and leaking. By all accounts the City of Novato planned to close the Pool permanently. But starting on what was to be the Pool's final closing day, hundreds of people all across Novato signed a petition to save this beautiful community asset, and many more urged City Councilmembers and City Staff to find the way. Ultimately, the City decided to invest $4.5M on the Pool's renovation, transforming it into a state-of-the-art facility. The Pool reopened on May 29, 2010.

Homeless Population Growing in Novato
By Wayne Freedman, ABC7
Friday, June 28, 2019
NOVATO, Calif. (KGO) -- Marin County residents in Novato have expressed alarm online about the growing number of homeless people in their community.
We found Gordon Jennings, who has been homeless since 2009, waiting for his turn to panhandle at Rowland Blvd and Vintage Way. He lives in a mini-van.
What critics do not understand is that there is no cure for people already in this position.
Novato is not an island, said Frank DeFalco. The whole country is in trouble. And when it moves onto a local traffic island, looks you in the eye, and asks for money?
I've lived here 50 years and never seen it so bad, said retiree Duane Graf.
Peter Planteen of Community Action Marin is one person trying to help. He's been working with the homeless for 16 years in Marin.
What is your track record? we asked.
About 15-percent, said Peter.
Discouraged? We asked
Not me. But, he laments how in Marin County, People have million dollar homes. They don't want to see homeless people. These are what they call, 'throw-away people.' They want them to disappear and not come back.
The 2017 homeless count in Marin County estimated confirmed 11-hundred people in need and estimates they represent one-third of the total.
Bridging Heaven & Earth Show # 185 with Vivianne Nantel
Vivianne, an artist and environmental and animal activist (and joyous and loving collaborator in the Bridging Art Project), was born in St-Lambert, Province of Quebec, in the suburb of Montreal, Canada. She grew up with a desire to make a contribution to the world. At a young age she was already fascinated with curvilinear lines and splashes of colors. She also spent many nights wondering about the stars, the universe, and the purpose of existence and being. The very young artist filled countless hours drawing as a child. Her interests also extended to performing arts, and her mother encouraged her to pursue ballet and theatre, which she did for over twelve years. At seventeen years old, she suffered a serious car crash in Montreal, which put an end to her emerging profession as a ballerina with Les Ballet Moderne Du Quebec. Vivianne then studied Dramatic Art in college, going on to pursue acting and modeling for the following decade. She did a series of TV commercials and prints, which eventually led her to travel to Latin America and the USA. She fell in love with the United States and in 1985 decided to stay. Destined to become a painter, she emerged in 2001 after graduating Magna cum Laude while receiving a B.F.A. from San Francisco State University with a minor in creative writing in 1999-2000. Vivianne has traveled extensively to the United Stated, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, France, Spain, Italy, Poland, Holland, Belgium, Greece, England and Austria to study and visit museums.
The essence of Vivianne's free spirit is truly of a renaissance and spiritually awakened being. Naturally gifted with many precious blessings, creating art and lovingly whispering to the world—a voice that stirs the soul; she is also a freelance writer, poet, speaker, spokesperson, model, animal activist, and humanitarian. She is dedicated and devoted to help changing this world to a more peaceful, compassionate and harmonious planet for all its inhabitants by creating more awareness, helping expand people's consciousness by opening their hearts and reconnecting to their true Divine nature and the oneness of this creation. Her childlike, humorous, spontaneous, profound, enthusiastic spirit is a delightful light. She is in a constant state of wonderment about this entire universe. Several of her articles and poems have been published in newspapers and media such as: Poet's Paper, National Literary Journal in the USA, Vallarta Tribune and Tribuna de La Bahia (in Spanish) in Mexico, Malibu Chronicle Magazine, Light & Life Journal, Planet Light Worker Magazine, and Animal Wellness Magazine. She has also appeared as a guest speaker on Earth Advocate, a regional TV program in California, and in the documentary film on Harp Seals, by Sea Shepherd Conservatory Society in 2005, and in the Art of Living Foundation international commercial.
Vivianne paintings have been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States and also abroad, including: the Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum in Roscoe Village, Ohio, the Yosemite Museum in Yosemite, California, the Williamsburg Art and Historical Society of New York City; the Peace Museum and Woman Made Gallery in Chicago, Blue Dolphin Fine Art Gallery in Pensacola, Florida, Powell Street Fine Art Gallery in San Francisco, and Castle Kruenburg, Austria. One of her paintings was featured at the 2004 Women's History Exhibition at the Smithtown Township Arts Council, Mills Pond House, New York, curated by Dr. Connie Koppelman from the Stony Brook University, NY. Nantel's work also has been selected for other nationwide-juried exhibitions entitled, Celebrating the Goddess at the Joan Hanley Fine Art Gallery in La Veta, Colorado, and also at the Indian Valley Artists Center, Inc., Hamilton Field, Novato, California, entitled from Heart to Heart, and also at the Peninsula Museum of Art in Belmont, California, in a national exhibition entitled, Angels and Demons. Her work has also graced the cover of Psychic Reader Journal and Malibu Chronicle Magazine, Planet Worker Light Magazine.
