Hammersmith Bridge spans the River Thames in London, England. The surrounding area previously contained factories and wharfs, but it now has been redeveloped as a riverside walk which nestles Hammersmith Bridge amongst modern appartments, cafes, houseboats and nature.

Hammersmith is a district of west London, England, located 4.3 miles (6.9 km) west-southwest of Charing Cross. It is the administrative centre of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, and identified in the London Plan as one of 35 major centres in Greater London.
It is bordered by Shepherd's Bush to the north, Kensington to the east, Chiswick to the west, and Fulham to the south, with which it forms part of the north bank of the River Thames. It is linked by Hammersmith Bridge to Barnes in the southwest. The area is one of west London's key commercial and employment centres, and has for some decades been a major centre of London's Polish community. It is a major transport hub for west London, with two London Underground stations and a bus station at Hammersmith Broadway.

London Buses 1992-Routemasters at Hammersmith Bridge+Broadway
A London Routemaster upload now, they are seen at work on Hammersmith Bridge and Broadway finishing at what was left of Butterwick Bus Station. The old Riverside Garage had been demolished (it closed in 1983 bus was kept as a bus stand for the 73s) and the station was being re-developed at this time. Hammersmith was quite unusual at the time in that the three Routemaster routes were all numbered consecutively-9, 10 & 11. Plus of course Hammersmith Bridge has now been shut to all traffic due to its state of dis-repair! Hammersmith Bridge is a suspension bridge that crosses the River Thames in west London. It allows road traffic and pedestrians to cross from the southern part of Hammersmith in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, on the north side of the river, to Barnes in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, on the south side of the river. The construction of a bridge was first sanctioned by an Act of Parliament in 1824 and work on site began the following year. It was the first suspension bridge over the River Thames and was designed by William Tierney Clark.The current bridge is the second iteration, Grade II* listed and was designed by Sir Joseph Bazalgette.
Hammersmith Bridge Public Meeting: Session One
Hammersmith Bridge is owned and maintained by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham (LBHF). Transport for London (TfL) is responsible for managing bus services across the bridge.
On 10 April 2019, Hammersmith and Fulham Council informed us that Hammersmith Bridge would be closed immediately for safety reasons, after its weekly inspection discovered micro fractures in the cast iron pedestals securing the suspension bridge.
We are working with Hammersmith and Fulham (H&F) Council and TfL to keep residents informed of impacts as a result of the closure.
All Richmond residents and businesses are invited to take part in our survey to have their say about the impact the closure is having on their daily lives and suggestions for the future of the bridge. This survey is not a formal consultation or engagement regarding LBHF's plans for the future of its bridge, but will guide Richmond Council officers and members when discussing future plans with counterparts at LBHF and TfL.
The survey closes on Tuesday 16 July 2019.
