Planes, Trains & Automobiles from Hanoi, Vietnam to our mystey new destination. We're moving to...
After three consecutive months of exhausting but exhilarating backpacking adventures, we've boarded a series of planes, trains and automobiles in order to get from Hanoi, Vietnam to our new mystery destination. In recent months you've seen us post videos from our final few weeks in Korea, our first month backpacking in Malaysia, our second month exploring the Kingdom of Cambodia and our most recent month of travels in Vietnam where we made our way up the entire country from south to north. We've had a blast transitioning from English teachers to backpackers, but we're - once again - ready for a new challenge. Now we're looking for a base to settle down, so that we can get to work on some online projects we've been putting off for too many weeks/months.

Our goal is to find the right balance on the road, where we're working and playing without sacrificing one over the other. Up until now, we've found we've been burning the candle too much at both ends of this equation and that it has left us feeling totally exhausted.
In need of regrouping and recharging our physical and mental batteries we're heading to a mystery location for several months.
In terms of relocating, our day first started with an early morning flight from Hanoi, Vietnam to our new mystery country. Although you may have already guessed we'll give you hint anyways; it's a country that is also in SE Asia and is well known for street food, elephants and word class beaches.
After arriving at a new International airport we then had nearly seven hours to kill at a local cafe - with wifi - before we boarded an overnight train to our final destination.
We don't want to ruin the surprise here in the description box, so please watch the video to find out where we'll be staying and basing ourselves for the next 3 months:

A VLOG of an evening drinking around the bars of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This is the first of 2 parts...
The parts of this video include:
0:04 Intro, views of the riverside and the Sun & Moon hotel
2:05 Heading out for the night
2:33 Walking down 136 street to the riverside
4:34 A quick look around the riverfront
6:54 Oskar Bistro, slightly upscale food and drinks
9:02 Map of the location
9:27 Mototaxi to Sharky's live music bar
10:42 Sharky's was closed, onwards to street 51
12:50 Beers at Shanghai and Plan B bars
14:40 The site of the old Walkabout bar that closed in 2016
15:01 Mototaxi to 104 street
17:17 Map of the journey and how long it would have taken to walk
17:23 Oscar live music bar, a chat and a drink with a nice Cambodian lady who told me the story of her German ex-boyfriend...
28:23 Some guys smoking the green stuff showed up and stank the balcony out
28:42 Changing bars
29:41 Mototaxi to 136 street
31:24 Outro
Additional comments:
$1 moto taxi rides.
I went everywhere via tuk tuk or moto taxi and never paid more than $1 for a trip. Sometimes the tuk tuks on the riverfront will insist on $2 for a short journey.
Phnom Penh is not a place to wander around alone late at night, even around the tourist areas. Cambodia is a much poorer country than Thailand, and reports of incidents against tourists/expats often are suppressed in the news.
Street 136
Some ladies in the Phnom Penh hostess bars are only there for lady drinks, particularly the prettier ladies under 25 years old. It's best to know the score before you start buying them loads of drinks. Other times some girls will only go with Asian customers (eg. Korean, Japanese).
I heard a story about a Phnom Penh hostess bar where a Western guy bought a nice hostess 5 lady drinks, but in the end she wouldn't go to his hotel as she was only a drinks girl. He was really pissed off and was telling everyone about it...

The Most Bizarre Roads (Meeting Locals) Sihanoukville, CAMBODIA
I never seen roads like this! The most bizarre roads I've ever seen were in Cambodia. I was pretty much riding through peoples yards, up close and personal. In some places if people walked by there was literally no room to pass... The good news, it's very easy to meet locals this way. As I was passing through one of these alleyways some locals offered me some beer and food, of course I said yes.
You also get to see the hostel I was staying at. A little different from the last one. This one actually had electricity, a pool, and freaking lemons in the urinals. I was so burnt at this point in my trip it was nice having a decent hostel to just relax and not do much for a few days..

SUMMARY
=======
Some people abstain from consuming various foods and beverages in conformity with various religious, cultural, legal or other societal prohibitions. Many of these prohibitions constitute taboos. Many food taboos and other prohibitions forbid the meat of a particular animal, including mammals, rodents, reptiles, amphibians, fish, molluscs, crustaceans and insects, which may relate to a disgust response being more often associated with meats than plant-based foods. Some prohibitions are specific to a particular part or excretion of an animal, while others forgo the consumption of plants or fungi.
Food prohibitions can be defined as rules, codified by religion or otherwise, about which foods, or combinations of foods, may not be eaten and how animals are to be slaughtered or prepared. The origins of these prohibitions are varied. In some cases, they are thought to be a result of health considerations or other practical reasons; in others, they relate to human symbolic systems. Some foods may be prohibited during certain religious periods (e.g., Lent), at certain stages of life (e.g., pregnancy), or to certain classes of people (e.g., priests), even though the food is otherwise permitted. On a comparative basis food taboos seem to make no sense at all as what may be declared unfit for one group may be perfectly acceptable to another. Whether scientifically correct or not, often food taboos are meant to protect the human individual, but there are numerous other reasons for their existence. An ecological or medical background is apparent in many, including some that are seen as religious or spiritual in origin. Food taboos can help utilizing a resource more efficiently, but when applied to only a subsection of the community, a food taboo can also lead to the monopolization of a food item by those exempted. A food taboo acknowledged by a particular group or tribe as part of their ways, aids in the cohesion of the group, helps that particular group to stand out and maintain its identity in the face of others and therefore creates a feeling of belonging.
