How My Cows Literally Saved the Farm - Mobile Minute

A dairy farmer's true story:

Quite a tale. During the 1980's, South Carolina farmer Tom Trantham was one of the top dairy producers in the state. In 1989, like many other dairy farmers struggling with higher input costs, suddenly found himself on the verge of bankruptcy. He even had the papers ready for signing and then a miracle happened.

This is taken from our full length video about Trantham's 12 April's pasture feeding system that evolved out of this experience.

The video was filmed as part of a project with the USDA's Sustainable Agriculture Research Education (SARE, now called NIFA) we produced for our show a few years ago.

3 Dead, 1 Injured In Pelzer Shooting

Wednesday night, Anderson county deputies and investigators were still working behind crime tape at 104 Law Street in Pelzer where three victims were found shot dead. An ambulance pulled up around 7:30 p.m. to remove the bodies.

Suspect Jared Michael Williams, who has a past conviction for carjacking, was arrested after crashing his car into a home following a high-speed chase by police Wednesday afternoon. Neighbors say they know Williams has been involved with drugs along with other people living in the home.

He (Williams) is known to be a thief, said Pam who runs a local crime watch for the neighborhood. We've known these individuals from the crime watch meetings. They're known drug dealers.

You see them shoes hanging off the line? That means there's drugs in this neighborhood, said Bob Daugherty who's lived in the area for years.

He pointed to tennis sneakers hanging about thirty feet above on phone lines. The sneakers were hanging about four hundred feet from the crime scene.

Daugherty lives behind the house where the shootings took place.

They moved in about two or three weeks ago, said Daugherty. You very rarely saw them. But they would have a light on all night. You'd see cars pull up there in the middle of the night, coming and going.

A woman who was injured escaped from the house and ran to a neighbors where she called 911.

Pam who runs the neighborhood crime watch said the group had ironically scheduled a meeting Wednesday night.

I'm hoping it will wake up Anderson county deputies, said Pam. And make them aware that we have a problem here.
