STORYLINE:
Members of a small ethnic Russian farming community located deep in Brazil say they plan to travel to Cuiaba on Tuesday for the once-in-a-lifetime chance to see Russia play in the World Cup.
Mato Grosso state is Brazil's agricultural heartland.
Lying amidst fields of corn and cotton, 'Russian Colony' just outside Primavera do Leste is some 300 kilometres (186 miles) east of Cuiaba where Tuesday's group game against South Korea will be played.
Residents of the deeply devout close-knit community still speak Russian and many wear recognisably Russian clothes.
Their orthodox church is at the heart of the village and they say their colony was founded in the 1970s by Russian families from Siberia.
Those families originally fled the Bolshevik revolution in 1917 before taking a prolonged odyssey across generations through China, America and Canada before finally settling in Brazil.
There are about 100 people living in the colony today.
Most work the soil and keep to the traditions inherited from their forefathers.
Around a third say they will leave the colony by bus on Tuesday morning and join fellow Russian fans at Cuiaba's Arena Pantanal to watch the big game with South Korea.
The farming community says it would welcome a Russia-Brazil final, but when pushed, loyalties become more complex.

Northeasterners got socked Thursday with the same subzero temperatures _ more than 30 below zero in some spots _ that brought teeth-chattering misery to the nation's midsection for much of the week. (Jan. 15)

NATS UP I feel like a frozen ice sickle.
Call it the Big Chill.
Sub-zero temperatures and biting winds are now socking the Northeast.
Its more than 30 below zero in some spots.
It was so cold that ski resorts in Vermont and Maine shut down.
But for many, it was business as usual, although perhaps at a slower pace.
Light snow fell overnight in parts of New York.
And folks bundled up when they ventured out Thursday.

JOEY WEDEMEYER
The deep freeze brought misery to the upper Midwest for much of the week... And it still hasn't left.

SUMMARY
=======
Harbin (Manchu: Harbin; Chinese: 哈尔滨 Hā'ěrbīn) is the capital of Heilongjiang province, and largest city in the northeastern region of the People's Republic of China. Holding sub-provincial administrative status, Harbin has direct jurisdiction over nine metropolitan districts, two county-level cities and seven counties. Harbin is the eighth most populous Chinese city according to the 2010 census, the built-up area (which consists of all districts except Shuangcheng and Acheng) had 5,282,093 inhabitants, while the total population of the sub-provincial city was up to 10,635,971. Harbin serves as a key political, economic, scientific, cultural, and communications hub in Northeast China, as well as an important industrial base of the nation.Harbin, whose name was originally a Manchu word meaning a place for drying fishing nets, grew from a small rural settlement on the Songhua River to become one of the largest cities in Northeast China. Founded in 1898 with the coming of the Chinese Eastern Railway, the city first prospered as a region inhabited by an overwhelming majority of the immigrants from the Russian Empire.Having the most bitterly cold winters among major Chinese cities, Harbin is heralded as the Ice City for its well-known winter tourism and recreations. Harbin is notable for its beautiful ice sculpture festival in the winter. Besides being well known for its historical Russian legacy, the city serves as an important gateway in Sino-Russian trade today, containing a sizable population of Russian diaspora. In the 1920s, the city was considered China's fashion capital since new designs from Paris and Moscow reached here first before arriving in Shanghai. The city was voted China Top Tourist City by the China National Tourism Administration in 2004. On 22 June 2010, Harbin was appointed a City of Music by the UN.
Deadly stadium fall: Atlanta Braves fan falls from upper deck while booing A-Rod - TomoNews
ATLANTA — An Atlanta Braves fan fell to his death from the upper deck of Turner Field during the Braves vs. Yankees game on Saturday.
According to witness reports from ESPN.com, the unidentified 60-year-old man was emphatically booing as Alex Rodriguez stepped up to the plate at the top of the seventh inning as a pinch hitter. The Braves fan fell over the railing and hit one of the wires holding up the screen behind home plate. He fell at least 40 feet and landed in the lower deck section where some player's families were seated.
EMS workers at the stadium responded, and performed CPR on the man for about ten minutes before he was carried out of the stadium on a stretcher. He was taken to Grady Memorial hospital where he was declared dead shortly after arrival.
Braves pitcher Matt Wisler was quoted in the Atlanta-Journal Constitution as saying: Huge condolences go out to that family. You never want to hear something like that. We were all in the dugout paying more attention to that than the game when it first happened. That's terribly sad to hear. We really hope for the best for that family. That's sad to see something tragic like that happen at a game.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Harbin (Manchu: ᡥᠠᠯᠪᡳᠨ; Chinese: 哈尔滨 Hā'ěrbīn) is the capital of Heilongjiang province, and largest city in the northeastern region of the People's Republic of China. Founded in 1898 with the coming of the Chinese Eastern Railway, the city first prospered as a region inhabited by an overwhelming majority of immigrants from the Russian Empire.Having the most bitterly cold winters among major Chinese cities, Harbin is heralded as the Ice City for its well-known winter tourism and recreations. Harbin is notable for its beautiful ice sculpture festival in the winter. Besides being well known for its historical Russian legacy, the city serves as an important gateway in Sino-Russian trade today. In the 1920s, the city was considered China's fashion capital since new designs from Paris and Moscow reached here first before arriving in Shanghai. The city was voted China Top Tourist City by the China National Tourism Administration in 2004.
CWU TV News | Agency Day of Action
Agency Day of Action on January 16 2013 was a resounding success. Events took place across the country with campaigners and members turning out in below freezing temperatures to support the fight for justice for agency workers. As a result of the campaign CWU has signed up new agency worker members and is hoping to shame agencies and companies from using PBA contracts.
