HARRY AND DAVID MEDFORD OREGON
Harry & David was officially established in 2005 as an umbrella organization over the company's vertically integrated business ventures. However, the company really had its beginnings much earlier, just after the turn of the 20th Century.
HARRY AND DAVID MEDFORD OREGON
Samuel Rosenberg, father of Harry and David, was a successful hotel owner in Seattle, Washington, but his true love was agriculture. In 1910 he traded the luxurious Hotel Sorrento for 240 prime acres of pears in Southern Oregon's Rogue River Valley and named them Bear Creek Orchards after the nearby waterway.
Following Sam's death in 1914, his two sons, Harry and David, took over the family orchard business. The brothers were schooled in agriculture at Cornell University and they put their agricultural training to good use. Harry and David decided early on to specialize in the Comice pear for which there was a good export market to the grand hotels and restaurants of Europe. The Rogue Valley proved even better suited to the Comice pear than its birthplace in France. Harry and David named their luxurious pears Royal Riviera to set them apart from varieties grown elsewhere. Throughout the Roaring 20's, the fame of Royal Riviera pears spread, and business boomed.
Then came the Crash and Great Depression and Harry and David's affluent market vanished. There was no question that the Royal Riviera pears were unsurpassed in quality, but how would Harry and David find new buyers? Always innovating, the brothers came up with the idea of selling their pears by mail. In 1934, they made their famous sales trips to San Francisco and New York to visit the captains of industry and pitch their pears as ideal business gifts. Soon orders were rolling in. It was the beginning of Harry and David as America's premier direct marketer of fruit and food gifts. We are proud to be one of the nation's oldest catalog mail order companies.
Today, the company continues to grow and plan for the future and develop new ways to capitalize on Harry & David's brands and our reputation for unmatched quality and customer service.

MEDFORD OREGON HAS TWO TOGO'S NOW
MEDFORD OREGON HAS TWO TOGO'S NOW
MEDFORD, Ore., May 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Togo's Eateries, Inc., a West Coast Original since 1971, announced today the opening of its latest Medford restaurant located at 1310 Center Drive in the Harry & David Country Village. The new restaurant is owned by local resident and current Togo's franchisee, Will Brake, who opened the first Togo's Medford restaurant located at 1200 Biddle Road two years ago.
Since opening the first Togo's location in Medford in 2011, the brand has been well received by the community, said Will Brake, Togo's franchisee. I have fond memories of Togo's while growing up in San Jose, so I'm thrilled to be able to expand the brand's footprint throughout the area. With a large number of California transplants residing in Southern Oregon, I know that the new restaurant will be a welcome addition.
At Togo's, there is a relentless commitment to using only the freshest, superior-quality ingredients and meats. Fresh baked Artisan bread, abundant quantities of lean pastrami, roast beef, turkey and other premium meats as well as California avocados are part of Togo's exceptional menu, and set the brand apart from other sandwich shops. Additionally, Togo's chicken salad and tuna salad are made in house daily, from scratch, using only the freshest ingredients.
Earl of Sandwich is a 17th-century title in the Peerage of England, nominally associated with Sandwich, Kent. if he only could know how Togo's took his name to a new level in Medford, Oregon.
It was created in 1660 for the prominent naval commander Admiral Sir Edward Montagu. He was made Baron Montagu, of St Neots in the County of Huntingdon, and Viscount Hinchingbrooke, at the same time, also in the Peerage of England.
Togo's has two Medford oregon locations, one off Biddle and McAndrews, and the second is at Harry and David's Country Village.
The best sandwich you will ever eat !
The viscountcy is used as the courtesy title by the heir apparent to the earldom. A member of the prominent Montagu family, Lord Sandwich was the son of Sir Sidney Montagu, youngest brother of Henry Montagu,
Bingo the sandwich was born. Togo's has taken this sandwich to a new level.

CALIFORNIAN'S FALL IN LOVE WITH MEDFORD OREGON
CALIFORNIAN'S FALL IN LOVE WITH MEDFORD OREGON
It is estimated that at least 30,000 Californians move to Medford every year.
Folks come from San Diego, Long Beach, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Fresno, Sacramento, and just about every city there is in California.
Medford Oregon has no sales tax, a beautiful Rogue Valley, hunting, fishing, golf,
Whitewater and rafting as well as kayaking.
Homes are cheap, especially if you sold you L.A. home and had tons of cash in hand.
It happens every day, every month, every year that retired Californians find a new home in Medford, Oregon. The place that I have called home now for over twenty years.
From the early to mid-1830s and particularly through the epoch years 1846--1869 the Oregon Trail and its many offshoots were used by about 400,000 settlers, ranchers, farmers, miners, and businessmen and their families. The Applegate's and others settled in and around Medford, Oregon.
For decades now, Californians migrate to Oregon by the tens of thousands each year. Since Medford Oregon is the first major city over the California border on the I-5 Interstate, it has been a Mecca for wealthy and not so wealthy Californians to retire.

GMOs and the Rogue Valley Part 1
ASHLAND, Ore --Jackson County has a long history of producing world-class agricultural products. The county says the 1893 Columbian world's fair in Chicago saw the debut of items like shredded wheat, Pabst beer, and Juicy Fruit gum, but it was a giant peach from Ashland raised by a German immigrant and his wife bringing international fame to Southern Oregon. The Ashland peach won an award at the fair and Samuel Rosenberg, father of Harry and David, traded the Hotel Sorrento in 1910 for 240 acres of pears in the Rogue River Valley and named them Bear Creek Orchards after the nearby waterway. That was the seedling to what has grown into the Medford- based company Harry and David.Seed growers and farmers alike say the Rogue Valley is a special place where one can grow a wide variety of crops with a Mediterranean climate and the extended fall allows seeds to dry out.Our ground doesn't freeze here like in Iowa or Minnesota, so they can't do this, but I can do this here in southern Oregon, Chuck Burr said.Burr grows his own seeds and vegetables and his company, Restoration Seeds, is certified organic where he sells and ships seeds internationally.Ashland-based Thrive encourages residents to buy local and eat local, supporting local farmers and growers. It says their goals are to diversify and deepen the local economy; support family farmers and other local businesses; preserve farm land and the unique character of the Rogue Valley; and educate valley residents about sustainable food and business practices.Thrive is a proponent of economic growth for small industries throughout the valley, Brian Comnes said.Local restaurants offer local food. Standing Stone Brewery in Ashland offers 'one-mile' eggs and burgers -- One mile because they have a farm less than one mile from the restaurant. We're a mile away. We do all of the processing at our own restaurant, Annarose Adams said.Local farmers and seed growers say the local organic and fresh industry is being threatened by a company that is not local. The issue here is we have two different kinds of agriculture competing in how we are going to grow things in the future, Comnes said. There is one specific farmer they want to leave and a measure on the upcoming May ballot may do just do that. This is a narrow windy valley and people that grow their seeds for seed production, if they're not careful, they will get contaminated, Comnes said.
