Some minutes before noon of 27th April on a bright sunlit day. saw us at Chandigarh airport, auguring well for our journey through Himachal Pradesh. Our first destination of Narkanda (8,935') was a 6 hours drive through NH22. Hoping to catch the sunset scene at Hatu peak & Hatu Mata Temple ( 10,890') as per the sight-seeing program, we dumped our luggage at HPTDC Hatu and were on 6 km uphill drive amidst the pine trees on a asphalt path amidst the forested area partly obscuring the sunlight. With orange hues of a setting sun filtering through the pine trees, we were racing against time to catch the sunset at the peak. The late unseasonal snowfall rendering the path at many places snow-white on hill slopes with snow-melt flowing on the road made the going slow. We were in nick of time to catch the final rays of sun giving the Hatu temple top the golden glow. Some minutes on top, walking to the temple and darshan of the deity, we scurried back to the car for downward journey with dusk settling in.

Hatu Peak is surrounded by dense woods. The area has forests of fir and spruce, with a smattering of maple, aspen and cedar trees.
The small hill station of Narkanda (at 2708m) is the start of the journey to the top of Hatu Peak. Narkanda is a stop on the regular bus service from Shimla to Rampur. The bus ride will cost around 60-70 rupees and take about 2.5 hours. Alternatively, private car hire is available and will cost approximately 1500 rupees for a slightly shorter trip and the flexibility of using your own time table.
According to local belief, the famous Hatu Mata temple is the temple of ‘Mandodari’ wife of ‘Ravana’. People come in great number on the first Sunday of Jyeshtha to pay ritual here. Goat sacrifice is still in practice near the temple.
There is an ancient stove like the formation of rocks nearby the temple. Locals believe that it was used by the Pandavas brothers to cook their food during their Agyaat Vaas.

Hatu Temple is situated on top of Hatu peak in Narkanda of Shimla district. this temple is situated at a height of 3400 metres.
Temple experiencs huge crowd on first sunday of jaisht Hindu month and also during navaratri festival, we got to know that Goat sacrifice is still in practice near the temple. if you are planning to come to this temple by trek, then do carry water and eatables, as there wont be any stalls for selling eatables and water on the way.
Temple is completely build of wood, main entrance door has carvings of Dragon, this has been done to showcase different religious styles.

This Peak is at a distance of 7 KM from Narkanda town. A narrow road take you to the Kali Mata temple located at the top of the hill at a height of 3400 Meters ( 1115 ft ). From the top you can get 360 degree view of surrounding hills and valleys. As you climb up you can feel the dropping of temperature. It takes 15 minutes in this stiff and narrow road to reach the peak. You can spend 30 minutes to one hour by visiting the temple and walking up to the rest house. So 2 hours is enough to visit this peak and return to Narkanda. Trekkers prefer to trek to this Peak passing through oaks ,cedars and other beautiful trees.
While coming from Shimla side, just before entering to Narkanda town right side Hatu Peak is visible from NH 5

We had travelled narkanda from shillaru ( distance btw these 2 is 10 km ).
Then from narkanda to the hatu peak is approx 8 km.
Trek is very easy for the trekkers, beginners can also trek easily or you can go by two wheeler vehicle or four wheeler because there is one way road is available.

Hatu peak is the second highest peak in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is located at an elevation of 3400 m (11,152 ft) above sea level. The peak is surrounded by dense forest of conifers, oaks and maples.

Hatu peak is one of the highest places to visit in Narkanda. Peppered with apples and oak thickets, the peak preserves an old temple named Hatu temple. It is dedicated to the wife of King Ravana- Mandodari.
Hatu peak also fascinates trekkers who start their trek from Narkanda and walk uphill for around 7 KM (one-way) to reach the top. The amphitheater landscape from the tip of the peak is quite rewarding to the ones who have walked all along.

Ride to The Hatu Temple at Hatu peak NARKANDA || ON TO SHIMLA-RAMPUR HIGHWAY at 3400mtr height
Hatu peak is located at an elevation of 3400 m/12000 ft above sea level and is the highest summit in Shimla/Narkanda region of Himachal Pradesh, India. The peak is surrounded by dense woods. The area has forests of fir and spruce, with a smattering of maple, aspen and cedar trees.
Hatu Peak lies on the Shimla-Rampur Highway nearly 71 km from Shimla. The roads are in good condition until Narkanda which is nearly 5 km from the peak. From here you can either trek for 5 km or go by bike or car. From there the peak can be accessed by bike or car but the road is difficult to use and only one car can climb at a time.

According to local belief the famous हाटू माता मंदिर (Hatu Mata Temple) is the mandir of Mandodari the wife of Ravna. People comes with their wishes to temple ,it is a belive that asking with true heart will definitly get fulfilled something therefore called Manokamnapurn Mata.
The road to Hatu temple is bifurcated from Narkanda and its approx. 6 KM long very steep ascent and one of the dangerous drive or trek to reach the temple. Its full of Deodar and spruce trees and gives the much relaxed view to the devotees.
