The Croatian coast is now a popular tourist destination. But on one island, ruins of a prison recall a bleaker era. Goli Otok was once a detention camp for prisoners of war. People in the region today remember its later function as the gulag of Yugoslavia. Josip Tito, though a Communist, cut ties with the Soviet Union in the late 1940s. Those suspected of siding with Stalin could end up at Goli Otok, where prisoners tortured one another when they weren't performing forced hard labor in a quarry. Goli Otok is Croatian for barren island, but the inmates referred to it as living hell. READ: See the Haunting Ruins of a Prison Once Known as a ‘Living Hell’

Visiting the Abandoned Hotel Belvedere (Dubrovnik, Croatia)
Just outside of Dubrovnik lies this giant ruin of once 5-star hotel Belvedere. Built in 1985 it flourished during only 6 years. It was damaged in the Croatian War of Independence and then it was used as shelter for Croatian refugees. It's been abandoned since then and has top listings as one of the worlds creepiest abandoned hotels. It's really worth visiting and I will never forget the experience. The hotel has a new owner and there are plans to tear it down and build a new luxury hotel. Maybe this will happen soon? I thought it was important to record as much as possible while it's still there!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As soon as “Game of Thrones” premiered on HBO back in 2011, it instantly became one of the most popular shows on TV. The series takes place in various fictional locations in the continents of Westeros and Essos, and fans have discovered that many of these places actually exist in real life! If you’ve ever dreamed of taking a trip to these real-life settings, why not take a trip with us instead? We’ll be showing you the real-life King’s Landing, Dorne, the Haunted Forest, and more. This is: 10 Game of Thrones Locations That Exist In Real Life.
One of the most eye-catching scenes in the television show is Daenerys throne room. It includes a massive staircase and a bench for the powerful woman to sit on. While the stairs were built by the show’s production crew, the actual location is called Diocletians Palace in the city of Split, Croatia. And above the city of Split is a place called Fortress of Klis. But “Game of Thrones” fans may recognize it as the shows city-state of Meereen.
We’ll also be showing you the monastery that was inspired by the Eyrie, and the actual staircase and surrounding city that the show’s fans know as the Great Sept of Baelor. If that doesn’t excite you, just wait until we show you what the House of the Undying looks like to local residents and tourists. If you’d like to see even more “Game of Thrones” locations that exist in real life, including the caves in The Stormland and Pyke, make sure to watch our video. Let us know in the comments which of these locations you’d like to visit!

Croatia Travel Vlog (Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik) Summer 2017
In June 2017, I went to Croatia for 5 days with my sister. We split our time between Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik. Here are some of the things we did during our stay:
SPLIT:
Croatia's second-largest city, Split, has the perfect balance of tradition and modernity. It's home to dozens of bars, restaurants, shops, markets and beaches, whilst still having thousands of years worth of history to explore.
Places to visit include The Cathedral of St Domnius, Diocletian's Palace, Marjan Forest Park, Peristyle Square, Basement Halls of Diocletian's Palace and The Markets.
For excellent views of Split, hike up Marjan Forest Park or pay a small fee to climb the Cathedral and Bell Tower of St. Domnius (181 step stairs to the top).
There are also small beaches, museums, the infamous Krka Waterfalls and wineries.
HVAR:
Hvar (probably my favourite place in Croatia) is a stunning, small bay town a few hours away from the mainland. Hvar has a number of beautiful beaches, lots of nice restaurants/cafes and great nightlife!!!
My top recommendations for Hvar, is walking/climbing from the town centre to the Fortress. Here you can see incredible views of Hvar and the bay area.
The blue and green cave tour is a day trip that's also worth doing! The first stop on the tour is the Green Cave, where we got the chance to get out and swim. It was then off to the hidden inlet called Stiniva for some sunbathing and swimming, before making our way to the Blue Cave (which was INCREDIBLE!!). After seeing the Blue Caves, wee were taken to the island of Vis and a fishing village, Komiza, before ending the day on the Paklinski Islands.

DUBROVNIK:
We only had an evening and morning in Dubrovnik, but managed to see most of its Old Town. Encircled with massive stone walls completed in the 16th Century, Dubrovnik's Old Town is filled with small markets, bars, museums and restaurants.
Other points of interest include Fort Minceta and Fort Bokar, Pile Gate, the numerous walking tours (including ghost tours, game of thrones tour and old vs new city tours) and the stunning bay area.
It was really easy (and fairly cheap) to travel between the Islands and mainland.
Hope you enjoy this and please like/subscribe for more videos soon.

Leaving the Port of Dubrovnik, Croatia on the MSC Divina (Time Lapse) - 3rd August 2012
Stunning high definition video taken from the port side 9th deck of the cruise ship MSC Divina as it leaves the Croatian port of Dubrovnik and heads out into the Adriatic Sea. The video has been sped up by 400% and set against the sounds of the original soundtrack, which are played at normal speed. the effect from this is for surreal footage that at times makes the video seem like a fake.
The video features the departure from port, and then the journey forwards past beach resorts and around Daksa island, it also shows the Dubrovnik Palace Hotel seat along the coastline and in the distance the Franjo Tuđman Bridge, before finally heading out to sea leaving the Croatian coast in the distance.
Whilst leaving port a little music is audible which was being played on the top deck of the ship, this adds to the haunting effect of the video.

The once-exclusive holiday resort saw thousands of Yugoslav officers and their families in its heyday. In the early 1990s, during the Croatian War of Independence, the Yugoslav Army destroyed the former beach paradises. After looting each of the five buildings, they systematically burned the hotels down, floor by floor.
Today, the shells of the buildings are now overgrown with ivy, weeds, and trees. The beaches that stretch out before the ruins remain popular, the effects of war still visible to the locals and tourists who frequent the beautiful waters of Croatia.

Croatia: Construction work for Star Wars: Episode VIII set launches in Dubrovnik
Decorations and props were installed in the old town of Dubrovnik, Wednesday, for the set of a Star Wars: Episode VIII scene that will be shot in the Croatian city.
The production of the new Star Wars: Episode VIII has already launched in the UK and the crew will move to Dubrovnik for two weeks in March, beginning on March 9. At present, constructing work is ongoing on the iconic Stradun street and is scheduled to finish just ahead of the shooting period. The filming of Star Wars in the city is expected to attract tourists and promote Dubrovnik to film buffs around the world.
Dubrovnik featured in King’s Landing and was the fictional capital of Westeros in Game of Thrones for the HBO show.

Dubrovnik Walls and Forts: Lovrijenac, Bokar and Minceta Towers
I took this short video clip in Kolorina bay in the close vicinity of Pile Gate on the overcast, cloudy day in late spring when visiting Dubrovnik Old town. The video shows Town walls and three of its well-known towers - St Lawrence's, Bokar and Minceta. It was a calm and cool day, ideal for walking around this beautiful city. More info:
