World's Best Luau - Maui's Old Lahaina Luau
As Maui News Reader’s Survey and numerous reviews correctly state - the Old Lahaina Luau is the “Best Luau.
This video focuses on the traditional process of preparing whole pig, which is cooked in an underground oven to perfection and served in a number of different ways in the elaborate buffet that followed.
The Old Lahaina Lüÿau takes great pride in presenting an authentic evening of traditional Hawaiian food, music, dance and crafts. The evening reflects with taste and tradition the rich culture and history of the Hawaiian Islands.

Travel Guide to Maui, Hawaii | TheExpeditioner
In this travel video guide to Maui, Hawaii, I travel to Maui and start off by heading to Haleakalā National Park to watch the sunrise from the highest volcano in Maui. On this part of the island, clouds form at the base of the volcano, and as the sun rises, a myriad of colors form and provide an unforgettable visual experience.
Next I throw on a wet suit and hit the waves to learn how to surf -- my first time ever. Though I've ridden the New York City subway after happy hour before, I was still a little unsure about how my balance would be on a surfboard. Luckily, the surf instructor had a black labrador dog out on her board with us in case anything went terribly wrong.
Finally, I wrap up the day by heading to the beach with a ukulele to have a jam session with a local Maui resident and ukulele player, where we jam out to some Bob Marley as the sun set over the Pacific Ocean, framed by the nearby islands of Moloka'i and Lana'i.
I then travel to Paia, the small, laid-back beach town on the northern coast of Maui, to track down the famed breakfast dish called the Loco Moco (rice, brown gravy and a hamburger patty topped with a fried egg).
Next I head north on the Hana Highway and take a hike into the lush forest to take a dip at Twin Falls, a small water hole in the middle of the forest fed by two island waterfalls. If this isn't classic Hawaii, then I don't know what is.
After picking up my friends at the airport, we jump onto a helicopter(!) to take an aerial tour of Maui and nearby Moloka'i. From this vantage point we visit dramatic sea cliffs up close and explore the interior portions of the islands -- places that few people ever see.
I started off my third day there by heading back up the side of Haleakala Volcano, then lunging my body of the side of the hillside (okay, I was paragliding). As I floated thousands of feet above ground, I was given a unique viewpoint of the island, and even lived to tell about it (and make this video).
Next I head out onto the open water on a sailing outrigger canoe (a canoe with a lateral support on its side in traditional Polynesian fashion), and take to the water to go snorkeling, which included a couple sea turtle sightings.
I then finish up the day with fish tacos at Coconut's (which, to this day, are probably some of the best fish tacos I've ever had), and shave ice for dessert, the classic Hawaii dessert consisting of shaved ice inundated with flavored syrups.
I decide to get a little high culture in and head to Ulupalakua Winery and Ranch, where I sample some pineapple wine (what else?), then head across the street to the Western-themed country store for elk burgers for lunch.
Then I pick up my friends and head north to Honolua Bay to hike in the nearby forest (and maybe get lost a bit), then visit a hillside that overlooks Honolua Bay, where you can park your car and watch some of the best surfers in the world who come here to surf one of the world's best surfing spots.
Finally, I travel to the Surfing Goat Dairy Farm, Maui's premiere (and only goat farm), where I am put to work feeding and milking the goats, and rewarded with an artisanal goat cheese tasting.
Then, with my trip coming to a close, I head to the nondescript restaurant Da Kitchen, one of the best places to try out classic Hawaiian cuisine, including Kahlua Pork, Teriyaki Chicken and of course, Spam.
Finally, I wrap up by providing my thoughts about the island. Be forewarned, sentimentality and reflection ensue.

Best and Worst of Living in Hawaii
Best and Worst of Living in Hawaii
Discover Sicily Like a Local
Suddenly I find myself living in Hawaii on Oahu. Best and worst of it right here. I followed my heart here to Hawaii and this is what you need to know to live here.
The beaches are astounding, if you love nature come here. Sure there are things that aren't so great but the nature aces all of that.
Learn all about the best of Big Island, Hawaii Island in my book with photographs of this stunning place:
Beaches, beauty, happy people, yes I love living on Oahu.
Moving to Oahu was fun, I left Thailand after living in Asia for 18 months with a one - way ticket to Honolulu, Hawaii deciding to live on the Hawaiian Islands.
Clutching my 3 pieces of luggage and not knowing a soul, I got in my rental car and drove straight to the North Shore of Oahu to see the Triple Crown Surf Competition.
Hawaii cost of living? It costs less than it does to live in California in the Bay Area. And here you get Hawaii weather, Hawaii culture and if you don't like eating spam with rice that's OK, every culture from Asia is represented here so you get fresh fish, fresh fruits and veggies year-round.
I used to only visit Maui in Hawaii now I actually live here! And its much better than vacationing - I don't have to leave!
If you want to come and live here I suggest trying it out before you commit to it. That way you will know if Hawaii is for you. Leave the mainland behind and embrace Hawaii!

Hawaii - Driving Maui - Lahaina to Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop
Just 5 miles south of Lahaina, Maui (less than 10 minutes) is a wonderful slice of life called Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop. This is an absolute must stop if you are on the west side of Maui, heck if you are anywhere in Maui. Be sure to sample one or two chocolate macadamia nut pies. You won't regret it.

One fruit that retains its natural flavor. I headed to the farm where I raised the fruit. In Hawaiian, Ono means delicious. If you have confidence in how much you taste, did you name the farm delicious? These fruits go to supermarkets, fruit shops, chefs in hotels and restaurants. People in Maui are lucky. You can eat your fruit. I started to look around the farm, handing in a bit of a cowardice. Soon after, Abu became sincere. The fruit I saw for the first time was full of farms. It 's ripe. Is this really true? This should be like this. Grandfather demonstrating eating first. I also ate it as it was, The snow is bigger. A lot of weight. Sugar water is more than this. Sugar is the perfect name for Apple. This is the first fruit I have ever seen. What fruit? It 's a baby fruit, it' s a flower. In about three months, the baby fruit grows to this extent. After a month or so, this changes. I can eat the fruit from this fruit. Right now? Yes. My grandfather, who just started cutting the other fruit with a knife. This fruit, which looks like garlic, was called cacao. The outer white part is the fruit. I make chocolates with seeds. First, after fermenting the fruit for 5 days, take out the seed and let it dry. Once the seeds are dried out, they are baked and very fine. I mix it with sugar to make chocolate. I've eaten a lot of chocolate, but it's the first time I have cocoa. I greedy and picked up two. Suck it. Chew it? Do not chew it. Suck it. Sweet and sour. It was a refreshing taste that would not be believed to be the raw material of chocolate. I have that kind of taste. I really like it. I can eat ten of them at a time. Everyone in Hawaii really appreciates living here. We are really lucky people. Working with God and being happy That 's what we do. God always helps us and nurture these beautiful fruits. Everything from flowers to cacao fruit is possible only with God's help. The nature of Hawaii seemed to be a gift God gave to humans.

When Bob Longhi opened Longhi's at 888 Front Street in Lahaina, Maui in 1976 he created an establishment that had all the elements of his favorite restaurants: great food, great service, and wonderful atmosphere.
Thirty-two years later, it is no accident that Longhi's is one of the most popular and acclaimed restaurants in Hawaii. Bob Longhi developed a plan that worked and stuck with it.
Now fans of Longhi's (and there are many, including Robert Mondavi, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, James Coburn and Al Michaels) can get the inside story on what makes this special restaurant and it's charismatic owner so successful. Longhi's: Recipes and Reflections From Maui's Most Opinionated Restaurateur by Bob and his daughter Gabrielle Longhi, is not a cookbook in the standard sense, but a book about food and philosophy that explains many of the decisions that give Longhi's it's unique atmosphere.
The book is visually beautiful with the fantastic photography by our very own accomplished Gabrielle Longhi. The original food shots are organically illustrated (not jellied or glycerinated for photography's sake...all edible food). Her unique synthesis of photographic style, and hand-tinted illustrations makes the entire book a delicious experience.
The elegantly written book displays Bob's usual candor and wit and is riddled with anecdotes, descriptive travel stories and pet peeves. The recipes speak for themselves -- thirty-two years of success and fine tuning still creating the essence of Bob's style and philosophy. We want to show everyone that anyone can be a great cook, says Bob all you have to do is put your attention where it belongs.
Longhi's has won numerous awards for its outstanding food, extensive wine list and excellent service. In this traditionally family run business, the high standards are maintained by general manager Peter Longhi on Maui and Charlie Longhi on Oahu, Bob's sons. In terms of atmosphere, Longhi's Restaurants are simply some of the most beautiful restaurants in the world, with a magical energy that reflects its charismatic patriarch, one of the great personalities of our time.
