Վանական համալիրը կոչվում է նաև Հայր Հովհաննու վանք, Մարդաղավնյաց վանք:
Հայրավանքի Սուրբ Ստեփանոս եկեղեցին (4-րդ դար) հայկական ճարտարապետության եզակի նմուշներից է: Հայրավանքը «Մարդաղավնյաց» է կոչվում: Այս անվան հետ կապված ավանդություն կա, որը գրառել է Կաթողիկոս Ղազար Ա Ջահկեցին: Ավանդության համաձայն, 1381-ին՝ միջինասիական զորապետ , ամիրա Լենկթեմուրի արշավանքի ժամանակ, Հայրավանքի վանահայր Հովհանը Քրիստոսի Խաչափայտի մասունքով և խաչի զորությամբ գերի վերցրված հազարավոր հայերին փոխակերպել է աղավնիների և ազատ արձակել: Հայրավանքի Սուրբ Ստեփանոս եկեղեցուն 1211-ին ավելացվել է գավիթը: Պարսպապատ բակում XVI դ. տապանաքարեր ու խաչքարեր կան, իսկ պարսպից դուրս՝ խցերի և տնտեսական շենքերի ավերակներ: Հայրավանքը գործել է մինչև XIX դարը, իսկ 1980-ականներին նորոգվել է:
Hayravank Monastery
Hayravank Monastery (also called Ayrivank, Hayrivank, etc.) is located in Gegharkunik region, on the shore of the Lake Sevan, not too far away from Hayravank village. It dates back to the 9th-12th centuries.
The main church, called St. Stepanos is in the form of quatrefoil cruciform. It was built in the 9th century.
Hayravank Monastery: Legends
As a truly ancient church, Hayravank Monastery also has a legend connected to its name. This time Armenians were fighting against the infamous Turkic ruler Timur, who was conquering Armenia at that time. As he approached the monastery, he left nothing on his way but corpses and ruins. The priest serving at the monastery could not take the scene and threw himself off the cliff into Sevan. But he did not die. Instead, he ran on the surface of the water.
Timur was shocked by the scene and as a respect to such a divine act, he promised to make only one wish of the priest come true. The priest asked Timur to let the people of the village enter the church and he wouldn’t touch the people that the space inside the church could take. The church was very small, so Timur agreed, being sure that the priest won’t be able to save too many people.
So people started to enter the church. After some time there was nothing left outside. Timur got angry thinking that the priest was cheating. He rushed into the church and saw it completely empty. He also noticed how the priest transformed the last person into a dove, who flew from the church window. The priest’s name was Hovhan, and the church was named Hovhanavank, later becoming Hayravank (“Hayr” meaning “Father”).

Pilgrimage Day of Hayravank Monastery
On July 09, on the Pilgrimage day of the Hayravank Monastery of the Gegarkhunik Diocese, the relic of the Holy Cross was taken from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin to the Monastery. Following Divine Liturgy, hundreds of pilgrims kissed the relic and revered its sanctity.

Sevan Monastery, Lake Sevan, Armenia
Sevanavank (Armenian: Սևանավանք; meaning Sevan Monastery) is a monastic complex located on a peninsula at the northwestern shore of Lake Sevan in the Gegharkunik Province of Armenia, not far from the town of Sevan. Initially the monastery was built at the southern shore of a small island. After the artificial draining of Lake Sevan, which started in the era of Joseph Stalin, the water level fell about 20 metres, and the island transformed into a peninsula. At the southern shore of this newly created peninsula, a guesthouse of the Armenian Writers' Union was built. The eastern shore is occupied by the Armenian president's summer residence, while the monastery's still active seminary moved to newly constructed buildings at the northern shore of the peninsula.
Due to easier accessibility (once it became a peninsula), good highway and railway connections with the Armenian capital Yerevan, a well-developed tourist industry in the nearby town of Sevan, and its picturesque location (although less picturesque than it was before the lake level drop), Sevanavank is one of the most visited tourism sights in Armenia.

Sevanavank Sevan Monastery, Lake Sevan, Gegharkunik Province, Armenia
Sevanavank monastery is on a peninsula at the shore of Lake Sevan in the Gegharkunik Province of Armenia. It is an old monastery that was founded in the year 847 AD. The monastery complex consists of two churches dedicated to the Holy Mother of God and the Holy Apostles.
Lake Sevan, almost 2000 meters above sea level, is the largest body of water in Armenia and in that region. It is considered as Armenia's main source of irrigation and electricity, with economic, cultural, and spiritual significance to the Armenian people.
The peninsula where the monastery is situated used to be an island that was drained artificially during the time when Armenia was under the Soviet Union. The draining caused the water level to fall by several meters transforming the island into a peninsula.
The picturesque location of Lake Sevan and Sevanavank have made them among the most visited tourism destinations in Armenia.
