A rainy day walk along the beach brings us to a creek where salmon are running up the creek, and a dozen harbor seals are patiently hanging out at the mouth of the creek.

The heavy tidal surge put the razor clams down at Heceta Beach in Florence at the North Jetty and Driftwood Shores. We managed to dig only 1 razor clam .

Florence OR Camping Fun
Camping at South Jetty in Florence, OR. Later Chris and Michelle and their girls met up with us and we had fun at the Heceta Head Lighthouse beach.

It was such a nice day that I went for a drive up the coast from Florence and visited the Heceta Lighthouse. It was a fun trip.
Heceta Head Light is a lighthouse located on the Oregon Coast 13 miles north of Florence, Oregon and 13 miles south of Yachats, Oregon, United States. It is located at Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint (a state park) midway up a 205-foot tall headland. Built in 1894, the 56-foot tall lighthouse shines a beam visible for 21 miles, making it the strongest light on the Oregon Coast.
The light is maintained by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, while the assistant lighthouse keepers' house, operated as a bed and breakfast, is maintained by the U.S. Forest Service.

Florence Oregon Coast Storm, Sea Lions in the Surf, Heceta Head Lighthouse.
Recent Oregon Coast weather warnings prepared residents for high winds and gusts up to 75 mph in Oct., 2010. This video shows the high swells, crashing waves, sea lions out in the surf, and Heceta Head Lighthouse beach area. Close ups of the sea lions rafting out in the crashing surf show them diving as the big waves break. The high winds and high swells made for a dramatic storm. This video was filled near Florence Oregon at the overlook for Heceta Head Lighthouse and at Devil's Elbow Beach just below the lighthouse.
