Downpour Sweeps Chongqing, SW China
A downpour started sweeping across southwest China's Chongqing Municipality on Saturday, causing the water level of a section of the Yangzi River to rise by almost half a meter.
In the city's Hechuan District, a heavy rainstorm that began on Saturday night dumped 43.7 millimeters of rain within 30 minutes. The maximum rainfall in that area was 66.8 millimeters at 07:00 Sunday.
The local meteorological department has issued an orange thunderstorm alert.
In Wanzhou District, heavy rain began to batter the area early Sunday morning.
The stormy weather has lowered the temperature by 13 degrees Celsius to about 16 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the water level of the Wanzhou section of the Yangzi River surged nearly half a meter.
The rainy weather is expected to continue until Monday, said the local weather department.
