Hell's Gate State Park - Idaho
08/01/14
Yoly and I head south east from Richland, WA. to Lewiston, ID. and spend the night at Hell's Gate State Park. The park sits alongside the Snake River and accomodates fishing and boating with a nice launch ramp. Like most state parks with full hook ups, the cost is pretty high especially in Idaho and especially if you are a non-resident. The additional fees they tack on for out of state visitors is enough to keep me from spending anymore of my tourist dollars in the state. So long Idaho, it's been fun but I can't afford you.
John A.K. Barker on the Lewiston waterfront
River guide and Idaho citizen, John A.K. Barker talks about the past and present along the Snake and Clearwater Rivers. Mr. Barker discusses the class III rapid that was in Lewiston before Lower Granite Dam drown it in 1975, discuses the recreation potential that the Snake and Clearwater Rivers might provide if free flowing and talks about the access problems that the levees now create for the people of Lewiston and Clarkston. In this way the levees limit the value and quality of life for folks living in this area. If the reservoirs, the levees were gone and a free flowing river again running thorough town, the cities would benefit economically and socially.
Old Spiral Highway, Lewiston, ID, USA
This is a full split screen ride of the Old Spiral Highway just off US 95 on the North side of Lewiston Idaho. If you are taking US 12 it's a must ride detour, it won't take long and is a blast. If your are really looking for more sweet riding head south from Lewiston to Enterprise Oregon along Idaho 129 and Oregon 3. Nice scenic ride takes you up along the hills west of the Snake River Canyon. Some really good twisty's on Oregon 3.
This will take you to the location on Google Maps
Website that talks about it in more detail. I could plagiarize it...but this isn't high school :-)
