Sivert Høyem - Live At Acropolis - Herod Atticus Odeon, Athens
One of Norway’s most enduring artists, Sivert Høyem is best known as the former singer of rock band Madrugada, as well as a popular solo artist and storyteller whose distinctive voice recalls a combination of the timbres of Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, and Neil Diamond.
For more than 15 years, Sivert Høyem dreamed of playing a concert in the 2000-year old Herod Atticus Odeon amphitheater at the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. On Sept 29th and Oct 2nd 2016, the dream came true, as Høyem – as one of very few artists approved by Greek authorities to perform at the theatre – played two sold-out shows in front of 10.000 Greek fans.
On June 9th 2017 the Acropolis recording is released as a double live album and film, available on limited edition vinyl, standard vinyl incl. DVD, 2CD digipack incl. DVD, download and streaming.
The 110-minute concert recording sees Sivert Høyem perform 16 classic songs, spanning his 20-year career, both as a solo artist and as the lead singer of Madrugada. Ever since the release of Madragada’s debut album “Industrial Silence”, Sivert Høyem has regularly performed in Greece building a faithful fan base among music lovers, making such a memorable event possible.

The Herodion theatre is situated under Acropolis with entrance from the pedestrian street of Dionysius Areopagite. Every summer, from June till October, there are several performances at the Herodion. O Odeon de Herodes Ático é um antigo teatro localizado na vertente sul da Acrópole de Atenas, na Grécia. Foi construído por Herodes Ático, de importante família ateniense, para comemorar a memória de sua falecida esposa Regilia. As obras começaram possivelmente em torno de 174.
Quando intacto o Odeon era uma estrutura coberta, e podia receber até 5 mil espectadores. O vão da platéia (koilo) tem 76 m de diâmetro, e foi escavado na rocha da colina. Os assentos eram de mármore branco, dividos em duas seções por um corredor. A orquestra tem 19 m de diâmetro, e o cenário, de três níveis, chegava a 28 m de altura, com diversas prótases (pórticos em projeção) com colunas, e nichos para estatuária, sendo ladeado por escadarias, e com uma galeria (metaskenio) voltada para o exterior, revestida de mosaicos, detalhe repetido na decoração das entradas.
A construção do teatro foi muito custosa, tanto pelos materiais nobres, como o mármore e o cedro, quanto pelas técnicas construtivas avançadas empregadas na cobertura, de 38 m de diâmetro, que não tinha fixação interna, algo incomum mesmo nos dias de hoje.
Na invasão dos hérulos de 267 o teatro foi arrasado, e jamais foi restaurado. Mais tarde sua estrutura foi incorporada às muralhas de Atenas. Com o passar dos séculos suas partes inferiores foram cobertas de entulho, o que fez com que o viajante italiano Niccolo da Martini imaginar que se tratava de uma ponte.
No século XIX foram iniciadas escavações, removendo toneladas de terra, uma restauração foi levada a cabo nos anos 50, e desde 1957 voltou a ser usado para apresentações e festivais.
