hidden in hanoi, exclusive dinning experience; Vietnamese homestyle cuisine
First, let me thank those who took the time to comment on the previous videos before this one aired:

Hey Everyone! In this video I'm sharing one of the best hidden dinning experiences you can have in Hanoi with a group of students from Northern Europe. This is an AirBnB experience and I'll include the link here ( so if you're looking for a once in a lifetime experience in Vietnam, you must book a dinner at Mai's family home :)
there are a lot of foodie tours on AirBnB for Hanoi Vietnam. Most are just basic taste sampling at a local market, just having someone help you order in the local language at a market can be an ok experience, but to enjoy a home cooked meal prepared by an expert village chef is much more exclusive, elusive and hard to Instagram.
There are also other dinner experiences where you can have a meal in a family home setting, but the women are young urbanites, they didn't grow up in a rural village learning the true traditional arts of Vietnamese cuisine.
And, as a long term expat, now all my friends & family want to go! I've got more footage for another video, maybe I'll put that together later on to remind us of where the good eats are!!

We found a bunch of unique and delicious Vietnamese street foods that you really need to try, all around Hanoi's old quarter! Despite this area being quite tourist, we found a lot of delicious food, so far, this has been the BEST street food city I've visited in Southeast asia!
In this Vietnam Street Food tour video, Myself (Trevor James, The Food Ranger), am taking you on a food street journey to many delicious, mouthwatering street food places around Hanoi in Northern Vietnam. If you're deciding whether or not to travel to Vietnam for the street food, you really need to come visit Hanoi. You can enjoy unique Vietnamese street foods hidden in Hanoi's old quarter alleyways and try classic Vietnam cuisine specialties like Pho for Breakfast, Bun Cha for lunch, A ton of different rice noodle dishes, and a ton of other hidden delights.
Over the past 3 years, I've filmed and eaten street food around China, including locations like Chengdu, Lanzhou, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Beijing, Wuhan, Leshan, Shanghai, and Xinjiang's Silk Road. So far, the street food in each of these locations has been the best street food around the world! BUT, I haven't shot a ton of street food in Southeast Asia, so we made it our goal to come to Vietnam to try the street foods. So far, it has totally been worth it!
Vietnamese cuisine is so delicious, and even though I've only been here a short while, I'm sure that it would really need a lifetime to eat all of it. I've decided to stay living in China, and move around to other countries like Vietnam for another year or two or even more, shooting delicious street food in china for you and across asia as well!
Here are the addresses and locations and restaurant names for the Vietnam street food I had in this Hanoi, Vietnam travel video. Most locations were deep in Hanoi's old quarter alleyways!
1) Famous Vietnamese Breakfast Pho @
Pho thin 13 lo duc
2) Delicious Bun Cha AKA Vermicelli Noodles with BBQ pork:

UNSEEN BBQ CHICKEN STREET in Hanoi | EXTREME Motorbike STREET FOOD Tour in Hanoi Vietnam
Today's episode is all about my motorbike tour experience through airbnb. Lam, my food tour guide, took me to multiple places to try different local foods and hole in the wall finds. Below are the list of places we went to. I will not be including all the details so you can experience the tour yourself and book Lam as your local food guide here ♥
1. Banh Xeo - An order comes with a tranluscent wrap, lettuce,
cucumbers, bananas, and nuoc cham. Since the Banh Xeo is crispy, thin, and big, we cracked it a little bit before wrapping it with all the necessary ingredients. Every bite is full of textures and flavors. Adding the pork bbq just completes it for meat lovers. The nuoc cham is definitely a must to complete the flavor. What a light way to start our night!
2. BBQ Chicken Street - We were greeted by smokes from different stalls. I noticed that they use bigger cuts of meat which
makes it more worth it. All are honey glazed, even the grilled banh mi. The wings and thighs/legs came out fresh from the grill and it was piping hot! The sweetness of the glaze is perfect with the spicy and tangy bbq sauce. It gets more spicy along the way so make sure to eat the complimentary morning glory and get an order of cold kumquat drink! This is truly a hidden gem in Hanoi. I came back twice after this tour. Highly recommended!
3. Steamed Pho - You might have probably watched my 1st episode where I ate these 2 familiar dishes. But according to Lam, this particular restaurant chain is known for their
Pho Cuon(steamed beef pho rolls) and Pho Xao Bo(stir fried beef and veg). In fact, this branch we visited
has another branch extension right in front of it. Both dishes came hot, even the nuoc cham! You know how I like to slurp on it like a soup? I did it again, and I think it's more
satisfying! The Pho Cuon filling were seasoned perfectly. The stir fried Kale was so fresh and crunchy! They know what they are doing and they do it well here. We were getting a little bit full so we saved some of it to take home.
4. Dessert Place - Coconut ice cream and flan are what we came here for. Both are seen anywhere in the Philippines, so I am quite familiar with the taste. But, every country/region does it differently. So my excitement is still there! Their flan is always served small, more caramelized, and more jelly like in consistency.
It's surprisingly not sweet! The coconut ice cream was served in a coconut shell so you can eat the entire thing
with shavings on top and flesh on the bottom. Drizzled with chocolate syrup and wafer stick on top. It was
very refreshing! I can imagine having it on a hot sunny day. I hate that it's not too sweet which made it
easier for us to finish the entire thing. Haha! Don't judge.
5. Banh Mi Stall - Lam told me that he's gonna bring me to his favorite Banh Mi stall. And I am happy he did!
I have had a couple of Banh Mis, and I would say each one is different. But this one was the best, in my
opinion. The quality of the pork used is the main star here. Flavorful on its own which makes the rest
of the few ingredients an addition to a fuller bite. This version has less ingredients for sure, but I like
the minimalist version. Focusing on quality more than quantity.
6. Egg Coffee - We are finally ending our tour in this cafe. This is the most unique thing about Hanoi.
Adding egg on coffee which makes it a dessert coffee. It's definitely not your ordinary coffee. I personally
prefer dipping the baguette bread on it. If you're a fan of eating bread with condensed milk, it's kind of
similar to that. But the texture of the custard was really foamy, marshmallow-y, and creamy. This is the type
that you savor every sip and take your time. I like that it's also a lot less sweeter than the condensed milk
coffees around. This is a must when in Hanoi!
If you would like to experience the same thing or customize your own tour, click this link ♥ Thank you, Lam! I highly recommend
each places we've visited, especially the BBQ Chicken Street! See you all on episode 9 soon!♥♥♥

Hanoi's hidden charms
This is Part 4 of my 5-part phototravellog from our trip to Hanoi last November.
This was our last full day (November 29, 2010) in Hanoi before returning to Singapore.
After breakfast, we decided to have a free and easy tour of the city. On a previous trip in 1994, I remembered going to West Lake, so I wanted to show my wife that area.
However, we were disappointed when we reached our destination, as nothing seemed to be happening there that morning. So we decided to go next to an art centre. On our way there, however, we noticed that there were many people walking to an old building. We decided to alight from our taxi to follow the crowd.
The place was called Temple of Literature. It was built in 1070 and later on housed Vietnam's first university. It was also the site of the imperial academy, where top bureaucrats and royalty studied.
The names of the scholars are engraved on stone tablets and placed on stone tortoises. In fact, inside the site is a pond where we saw a tortoise crawling to sun-bathe.
Throughout our trip I had been looking to photograph women wearing ao dai. We saw very few before this last day. We were fortunate to find many of them at the Temple of Literature. There was a large group of ladies entering the temple. We found out later that they had recently graduated from university and were there to take souvenir photos as a class.
Since I was using two DSLR's, the ladies thought I was a professional photographer and gladly posed for me.
They also wanted to have pictures taken with me and my wife but I compromised by having my wife pose with them without me. I prefer to be behind the camera.
A few of them gave their email addresses so that I could send them their photos. I'm sure they will like this video too.
There are many tourism-related organisation and enterprises in Vietnam using the catchphrase 'The Hidden Charms of Vietnam. Even our hotel was called Hidden Charm Hotel and it lived up to its name.
For me, as a photography enthusiast, women in ao dai are Hanoi's No.1 hidden charms.
