Climbing Superstition Peak - Superstition Mountains, Gold Canyon, AZ
An early morning hike to the summit of Superstition Peak, in the Superstition mountains just outside of Gold Canyon, AZ. This was the first hike I've done where I was completely alone from start to finish, most likely due to it being mid-July. The overall elevation gain, including the ups and downs both ways, was probably around 3600 ft., and the distance was over 8 miles round trip. This was a fun hike and also a challenging one due to the terrain.
Virtual Hike: Hieroglyphic Trail - Superstition Mountains Arizona
Rated the #1 hike in the Superstition wilderness, the Hieroglyphic Trail is a 2.8 mile hike that offers spectacular views.
This hike was done on Saturday, March 2, 2019. The weekend before, Arizona had some crazy weather and even snow on the Superstition Mountains! Because of this, there were gorgeous wild flowers, grass and even the desert plants looked a little more green! I have done this hike several times and have never seen the water flowing at the end of the trail like this. Usually there is just little stagnant pools of water.
As a reminder, do not park on the street where it says no parking. Seems like common sense but cars were lined on the street when we started the hike and by the time we got back down, the drivers were standing stranded where their cars were on the road because their car was towed. Wait for a parking spot to clear. It is a large parking lot.
The drive to this hike including the parking lot is all paved.
Hope this video gives you an idea of what to expect on your hike at the Hieroglyphic Trail. Be kind to the environment. Don't leave ANYTHING behind. Happy Hiking!
Ancient Hieroglyphics + Waterfall hike in ARIZONA

This is a video of my hike with Calynna to the ancient hieroglyphics in Gold Canyon, AZ. Part of the superstition mountain range, these hieroglyphics were left behind my the Indians who inhabited this desert well over 1,000 years ago! As a bonus, this time of the year there is flowing water through the canyon, so I just had to take a dip :)
Here is my full-length blog post about the trip:
Thank you so much for watching + reading my posts! It means the world to me. I hope you enjoyed this video!
Hieroglyphics trail, Superstition Mountains, Arizona
Hieroglyphics trail in the Superstition mountains in Arizona. A nice venture into the sonoran desert of the Superstition mountains to a water source and some ancient rock art. This hike was extra nice due to a new years day rain storm, making the scenery appear different from the usual sunny days. Clouds topping the mountains were a nice touch, and the rains were picking up the flow of the water. This also wrapped up our 52 hike challenge.

another great hike in an area of the Superstition Mountains. The terrain does not seem very Supes-like though. In one section the zoom I do into the water is of two spiders. (sorry for the clicks of the camera as I zoom in and out)

A True Desert Oasis - Petroglyph Canyon Waterfall - Superstition Wilderness, Arizona
The epitome of an oasis in the desert! Petroglyph Canyon (Hog Canyon) is a 30 foot waterfall hidden in the Superstition Wilderness protected by miles of rugged terrain. Hiking miles through a dry wash is not my ideal of a good hike, but that wasn't going to stop me from seeing this beautiful place. Oh, did I mention the petroglyphs next to the fall?
Thanks for watching, guys! Please stick around, subscribe, and share, if you're so inclined.

On the south side of the Superstition Mountains is a canyon full of Indian rock art known as Hieroglyphic Canyon. This ancient mystic place records the life of the indigenous locals in prehistoric times. A fantastic place to visit! If you go please leave nothing there, and take nothing but pictures. Help preserve the glyphs for future visitors.

The Bat Cave Superstition Mountains Arizona
A friend of mine had his sites set on this destination for quite some time and finally we made the hike to see it.
I think the popularity of this place came to be from a film done on the Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine aired on the History Channel. If they really climbed up into the cave I would be impressed. The ladder is a wooden one nailed together and it’s hard to say how old it is. Aside from the rickety ladder there is the issue of two things, having the proper gear to enter this kind of environment, like a respirator, clothing, and then not disturbing the bats. It is important that we respect the wildlife, which is the wish of the authorities that have jurisdiction of the Bat Cave.
What surprised me was how steep the ladder is. Proper gear to protect you from the ladder collapsing would be important.
It is fun to see and quite a historic site. It would be interesting to collect all the facts.
If you do venture down this gorgeous canyon, which is worth it all on its own, get ready to hold your nose and breathe!
The coordinates for the Bat Cave may be a little off. But when you are at the ‘Below Bat Cave coordinates’ you will see it.

First hike up Hieroglyphic Canyon
Footage of my hike up Hieroglyphic Canyon. My planned route was to hike up the canyon to the ridge to Superstition Peak. I got close but decided to head back. This hike left me with a profound experience on how important water is. And how native americans lived.
Flatiron and the Superstition Mountains - Phoenix, Arizona
Flatiron, aka Siphon Draw, is one of the most popular and exhilarating hikes in the Superstition Wilderness. This trail puts you on top of one of the most prominent rock features of the range called Flatiron due to the fact it looks like an upside down iron. If you are looking for an awesome adventure that is very accessible this is the hike for you.
The Flatiron trail begins at the westernmost side of the Superstition Wilderness at the Lost Dutchman's State Park. There is a $5 (as of 3/25/15) day-use fee at the Visitor Center. The trailhead is called Siphon Draw because that is the official name of the trail. It is called Siphon Draw because that is exactly what it is; a draw that siphons down water from the tops of the mountain. Also appropriately nicknamed, Flatiron looks just like an iron protruding nearly 4,800 ft in the air. Because it is a draw for excess rainwater, DO NOT hike this right after a monsoon or rainstorm of any kind. You are literally hiking right through the slick rock that makes up the draw and it would be dangerous to attempt while wet.
