London Highgate Village a stroll through the area in Britain UK
Highgate is an area of North London on the north-eastern corner of Hampstead Heath.
The area is characterised by many green expanses including three ancient woods,a park and a famous cemetery. At its centre is Highgate village, a collection of largely Georgian shops, pubs, restaurants and residential streets, interspersed with diverse landmarks such as Highgate School (1565), the Gatehouse inn dating from 1670 and Berthold Lubetkin's 1930s Highpoint buildings.
The village sits atop a hill which provides views across London, climbing 375 feet (114 m) above sea level at its highest point.
Highgate is one of the most expensive London suburbs in which to live.
It has an active conservation body, the Highgate Society, to protect its character. The area is divided between three London boroughs: Haringey in the north, Camden in the south and west, and Islington in the south and east. The postal district is N6. (Wikipedia)
23.- Rebel folk kaleetan: Highgate wood (London, England)
Baso berde lasai ta arriskurik gabekoa dirudi, baina bere baitan milaka gorpu lurperatu zituzten izurrite beltzaren garaian. Legegabeen ta sorginen bide ta erregeak ehizatzeko jabego pribatua ere izan zen. Bizi bizirik daude zuhaitzak, lur zatiak ta haizeak orrietan jotzen dituen nota bakoitza. Bertako biztanle askok ez dute bera zeharkatzen ta gabetan itxita egoten da, ez ikusteko, ez entzuteko ta isiltzera behartzen duten gauzak daudelako han.
Hurrengo atalean Deiedra Rebel folk taldearen eta taldekideen kaleko abenturak aurkituko dituzue, musika zuzenean edozein tokitan, bene benetakoa.

Highgate London Tour
I took a little walking tour in North London around the Highgate postcode: N6, around Highgate village and the surrounding area and made this video for anyone interested in the area.
This tour briefly shows the following areas and things:
- Highgate tube / underground station
- Jacksons Lane theatre and arts centre building (on Jackson's Lane, as viewed from Archway Road)
- Poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge (the sage of Highgate)'s house, at number 3 The Grove, Highgate, which was also the residence of LB Priestley.
- The Flask pub, where poets like Lord Byron, Shelley and Keats are said to have visited when they came by to see their fellow literary friend, Coleridge
- Highgate village centre
- Highgate school (where TS Eliot taught French and Latin)
- The picturesque Gatehouse Inn where Charles Dickens and Lord Byron are said to have visited for a drink.
- Pond Square (which no longer contains any ponds)
- Highgate's URC church
- Highgate High Street (featuring local shops and pubs like The Highgate Pantry, Grazyna, The Village Jewller, The Prince of Wales pub, Oxfam, BBC3 hairdressers, The Angel Inn, Limone, Face it and The Highgate Bookshop)
- Some classic red double decker London Buses
- Waterlow Park (featuring its tennis courts, wild blackberries, its 3 ponds: lower, middle and upper pond, its duck, pigeon and turtle residents, dog visitors, its playground, its Kitchen garden compelte with beautiful display of sunflowers and lots of veggies and flowers in the vegetable patch, Lauderdale House and its gardens including a little fountain)
- Saint / St Joseph's RC Church
- Highgate cemetery (shown here only very briefly - there are videos on youtube that concentrate and specialize on Highgate cemetery tours. This place is famous for its celebrity graves. Highgate cemetery burials of celebrities include: Karl Marx, Michael Faraday, Douglas Adams, George Eliot, Jacob Bronowski, Sir Ralph Richardson and Christina Rossetti.)
- Views over London from up on Highgate Hill (like in the famous London song by The Kinks.) The views shown are looking eastwards towards Crouch End and also looking Southwards from near Holly Lodge Estate, down towards central London, like in the song by Ray Davies where the lyrics are: If you're ever up on Highgate Hill on a clear day, You can see right down to Leicester Square. So if you ever heard that song and wondered where is Highgate hill? this video shows you a bit of it and the surrounding area. In this video I'm not sure if you can quite make out Leicester Sq, but you can see the London Eye, the BT tower and a few other bits from the London skyline.

LONDON TOUR IN 4K - HIGHGATE N6
Situated in the Northern part of London Highgate is a very green and quiet residential area. Very much reminiscent of old London, this village town is part of North London's prime areas to live.

Historically, Highgate adjoined the Bishop of London's hunting estate. Highgate gets its name from these hunting grounds, as there was a high, deer-proof hedge surrounding the estate: 'the gate in the hedge'.[7]
The bishop kept a toll-house where one of the main northward roads out of London entered his land. A number of pubs sprang up along the route, one of which, the Gatehouse, commemorates the toll-house.
In later centuries Highgate was associated with the highwayman Dick Turpin.
Hampstead Lane and Highgate Hill contain the red brick Victorian buildings of Highgate School and its adjacent Chapel of St Michael. The school has played a paramount role in the life of the village and has existed on its site since its founding was permitted by letters patent from Queen Elizabeth I in 1565.
The area north of the High Street and Hampstead Lane was part of Hornsey parish and also later the Municipal Borough of Hornsey and the seat of that borough's governing body for many years.
Highgate Hill, the steep street linking Archway (traditionally called part of Upper Holloway) and Highgate village, was the route of the first cable car to be built in Europe. It operated between 1884 and 1909.
Like much of London, Highgate suffered damage during World War II by German air raids. The local tube station was used as a bomb shelter.

It was coming down hard all morning, so we stayed close to home and toured through Highgate Wood. Lots of tall trees close together provided good cover from the rain. Other dog owners had the same idea, which made for a dog-filled walk.

I am on my way to collect the post from the post office on the Archway Road for Flashpark, my employers. It is the morning of 26 March 2014 - the fifth day of spring. The traffic noise is from Muswell Hill Road on the left.
