Kauai, Hawaii 2010
Another great trip to Kauai and another batch of photos to sort through. Here are a few of my favorites. All photos taken with a Nikon D80. The ocean sound FX were recorded by me from a location near Anini Beach on the north side of the island. Photo locations included Polihali State Beach, Waimea Pier, Poipu Beach, Kapaa, Hanalei Bay, Ke'e Beach and a few other places. While in Kauai I stayed at a fantastic Ocean front condo in Kapaa. If you are planning a trip to I highly recommend checking out A great place with an incredit ocean view, centrally located and super reasonably priced. Great people to work with too!

* Kalalau Trail (with drone!) - Top 10 most dangerous hikes? KAUAI (06:00) (wrj56)
(c) William Jans (*please subscribe so I can create more!) Join Vancouver photographer / adventurer William Jans' wee jaunt on the amazing Kalalau Trail on the Na Pali Coast in Kauai. The start date of Dec 8 was vexed with both a Flash Flood warning and Tsunami warning. Both must have abated since hikers were allowed to continue. Hiking in winter means MUDDY! But this is still a great adventure. If you choose to do this, please be respectful of these lands deemed sacred by the Hawaiian and of course be prepared (!) and heed warnings and pay for permits too of course! (*note this is (c) William Jans. Do not copy or repost any without permission).
Filmed, edited and created by William Jans with 1 drone, 4 video cameras and 1 pro DSLR camera for stills. All gear and no clothes = 1 stinky William.
Credits at the end to thank the great new friends I met along the way. Some of these amazing folks were kind enough to participate and some were super kind in loaning me battery chargers when some of my many batteries went kaput.
Thanks for helping this get more than the 4800 views goal on this! (that is 10% of 48,000 footsteps it took to complete this 37km trip).
This looks kind of Wow on big screen if you have :-)
Notes / Disclaimers:
- This is not all that dangerous if you are careful. Some do run (portions) of this trail out and back (I would like to do that too).
- Hawaiians I encountered described the many yahoos going at this glibly with no respect for the dangers, so requested I show the risks to mitigate everyone thinking this is merely a walk in the park.
- There is distortion from wide angle shots looking down at my feet that make it seem more sheer than it is. To better assess the pitch, please look at the other images in the footage (including stills) that show the drop-off accurately.
- Flash floods and ocean surf have reputedly taken more lives than falls, so be wary in crossing or considering playing in the water.
Thanks for watching and I hope you might check out my other videos or full shows too! They have been live shows in Canada only this far, but I am creating *Streaming versions for 2017! If 80,000 Canadians enjoyed them, I hope other citizens of of other countries might like them too.If you subscribe here, I will add clips to announce dates when set.
SeaLodge Beach Path, Kauai Hawaii
Located in Princeville on Kauai's north shore, SeaLodge Beach is a hidden gem. It is a small pocket of sand, surrounded by lush vegetation. (It reminds me a lot of Hideaways Beach~ same size with coral outcrops) Most of the time, the beach is empty because not many people know it's there. The reason is mainly access issues. If you're not a guest at SeaLodge Resort, there is basically no way that you can park anywhere near the trail to the beach. Even in the adjacent neighborhood, street parking is not allowed. They will tow your car. No public parking is available. So if you really want to visit this beach, park in the Makai Golf Course parking lot just 10 minutes away.
There is a reef on the near shore ocean bottom, so the best activity here is snorkeling, especially when the ocean is calm. Turtles also like this area. When the surf is up, currents often times form and the waves can be too dangerous and reach all the way to the base of the cliff. To get to the beach, you'll have to hike to it (takes about 10-15 minutes). The path itself is picturesque too and well worth it.
The path starts at Keoniana Road. Look for the yellow chain in the cul-d-sac. The first third of the hike is a paved path down to the water tank. The real path begins on the backside of the water tank. It is an easy path to follow and it crosses a small stream. The path cuts through the forest then follows the ocean around to the beach. The path does become narrow and to reach the beach at the end of the path you have to crawl down a few boulders.
Kauai Hawaii Island Video - What To Do In Kauai Hawaii U.S.A.
Kauai is Hawaii's oldest of the four major islands It is also one of the most lush. It's no wonder they call The Garden Island.

Visitors to Kauai flock to the Waimea Canyon State Park to see one of Hawaii's greatest scenic treasures--Waimea Canyon. Mark Twain on his visit to Kauai called Waimea Canyon the Grand Canyon of the Pacific due to its sheer cliff and canyon walls 3,000 feet high. Mount Wai'ale'ale receives a massive amount of rainfall making it one of the wettest places on earth.
One of the most interesting way to see the coastal Waimea canyon walls is by helicopter and if you are even more adventurous take a sport helicopter and fly the coast route with the door off. This gives you uninterrupted views perfect for photography and a thrilling ride. If you happen to do this I hope you post a video of it. I would love to see it.
My visit to Kauai was via cruise ship. Carnival Cruise Line's Spirit departing Vancouver British Columbia and stopping in Maui, The Big Island, Kauai and finally Oahu.

Running the Kalalau Trail on the Na Pali Coast of Kauai
The Kalalau Trail leads 11 miles along the rugged Nā Pali Coast on the north shore of the island of Kauai, Hawaii. The Trail traverses 5 lush valleys, above towering cliffs, before ending at Kalalau Beach where it is blocked by sheer, fluted pali. Most will take between 2-3 days to finish the trail. Our plan was to travel fast and light, running the entire 22 mile return trip in roughly 8 hours. Read my full trip report including map on my website at:

Carole & Mikaila Kauai Trip 2019
SEE BELOW FOR PLACES & COMPANIES WE USED IS IN THE VIDEO
My mom and I went to Kauai this year for the holiday season to get away, and let me tell you that this place is actual paradise. We were fortunate enough to get to do so many things and saw almost everything I wanted to while there. Below are the things seen in the video, and the companies we booked each of the excursions through.
00:24- Drive up Waimea Canyon and stop at multiple of the lookout points along the drive.
00:59- Helicopter ride over most of the main sights in Kauai. This was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip! We booked with Sunshine helicopters.
02:03- Stopped at a beach on the west side of the island Kekaha beach. It rained a lot while we were there but the locals let us in on a secret that when all the rest of the island is rainy, the west side is almost always dry so we stopped of at the beach there multiple times.
02:28- I can't rave enough about how fun this tubing excursion was!!! We went on a day that was a bit rainy but that didn't take away from how awesome it was. It was booked through Kauai Backcountry Adventures.
03:25- It was POURING rain but it didn't stop us from going on the awesome biplane tour through the Kauai mountains. We booked with Skyline Eco-Adventures, they were awesome and the scenery was breathtaking
04:45- Walking along the beach in Kapa'a!
05:06- When going to Hawaii you have to get the Hawaiian experience and go to a Luau. We went to the one at the Grand Hyatt and it was so much fun. The tickets are quite pricey so be warned, but the food was incredible and the performances were amazing!
05:33- The kayak and hike to the secret falls was one of my favorite days on the trip. You rent a kayak at Kamokila Hawaiian village, be warned that the kayak rentals sell out super super quickly so make sure to be there right when they open. you kayak up the river a little ways, park the kayak on the sand, and the hike to the secret falls. The hike is pretty crazy because you are going through rivers and the trail gets super muddy, but boy is the end view worth it!!!!
07:34- Day at Hanalei Bay and surf town! This is a super popular part of the island because there are a ton of cute shops, eateries, an a nice calm bay where you can paddle board and walk out onto the pier.
08:29- visit to Maniniholo Dry Cave and walk along tunnels beach!
09:01- Awaawapuhi Trail in koke'e state park! This was definitely a challenging hike, but the view at the end was absolutely breathtaking!!!
09:27- Catameran Snorkeling cruise with the company Captain Andy's. The sailors were incredible on this cruise! I can't rave enough about their professionalism, and just being down right awesome! The food on the trip was so good too, and I got to SWIM WITH SEA TURTLES!!!!!! A huge highlight of the trip for me!
A few honorary mentions that didn't make it into the video but were amazing are:
-Snorkeling at Poipu beach
-Snorkeling at Anini Beach
-Kapa'a for their food trucks(especially the shaved ice) and little shopping
