Hillsborough Castle is an official government residence in Northern Ireland. It is the residence of the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, and the official residence in Northern Ireland of Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the British royal family when they visit the region, as well as a guest house for prominent international visitors.
Hillsborough Castle, which is located in the village of Hillsborough in north-west County Down, is not a true castle. It is a Georgian country house built in the 18th century for the Hill family, Marquesses of Downshire, who owned it until 1922, when the 6th Marquess sold the mansion and its grounds to the British government.
In buying it, the government solved a practical problem. Under the Government of Ireland Act 1920 a new, distinct region of the United Kingdom called Northern Ireland had been created within the traditional province of Ulster but minus three counties—Cavan, Donegal, and Monaghan—which became part of the Irish Free State. Executive authority had been vested for both Northern Ireland and sister region Southern Ireland in the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, who was supposed to be one of two all-Ireland features (along with the Council of Ireland) in the new home rule structure. However, that office was abolished in a law change following the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921, which in effect aborted Southern Ireland (which had in reality only existed on paper) and established the Irish Free State.
A new office for Northern Ireland alone was created, that of Governor of Northern Ireland. As the Viceregal Lodge in Dublin became unavailable, physically and politically, a new residence was needed. Hillsborough Castle, though outside the largest city of Northern Ireland, Belfast, was deemed a suitable location. After some renovations, the first governor, The 3rd Duke of Abercorn, moved in during 1925. Upon becoming the official residence of the governor, the building was officially renamed Government House.

Hillsborough is a village, townland and civil parish in County Down, Northern Ireland, situated 19 km from the city of Belfast. It is within the Lisburn and Castlereagh District Council area. A prominent feature of the east and south approaches to Hillsborough is a 5-mile wall which encloses the Park Dam, an artificial lake, and the forest surrounding it. In 2007 Hillsborough won 3rd place in the Ulster in Bloom large village competition.
The historic centre of the village contains significant amounts of Georgian architecture. The village was originally a compact settlement hosting a regular market. More recently land to the north of the village has been developed as housing and Hillsborough has become part of the commuter belt of Belfast. In recent years townhouses and apartments have been built closer to the centre of the village, and the former civic building of Lisburn Borough Council has been converted to residential use. That building is in twentieth century neo-Georgian style. Development to the east of the village is continuing to swell Hillsborough's population. The associated settlements of Culcavy and Aghnatrisk to the north-west are also growing.
Before 1661, the townland was known as Crumlin or Cromlin (from Irish Cromghlinn, meaning 'crooked glen'). By 1661 the townland and the settlement within it had been renamed Hillsborough. It was named after Sir Arthur Hill, who built Hillsborough Fort in 1650 to command the road from Dublin to Carrickfergus. The Hill family became the Earls of Hillsborough, then Marquises of Downshire.
A prominent memorial to the 3rd Marquis of Downshire (and closely resembling Nelson's column in Trafalgar Square, London) stands to the south of the village and is visible throughout much of the surrounding area.
Hillsborough Castle a two-storey Georgian mansion, was Government House from 1924 until 1973 and is the official residence of Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom (and other royal family members) when visiting the province and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland from 1973. Hillsborough Castle was the venue for the signing of the Anglo-Irish Agreement in 1985. Former Prime Minister Tony Blair stayed at the castle on many occasions during negotiations related to the peace process, and he hosted George W. Bush at the Castle for a one night visit in 2003
There are many interesting walks and local pubs offering delicacies to enjoy; and is home to a public forest park and lake that form the picturesque setting for the original fort residence of Lord Hillsborough. Hillsborough hosts an International Oyster Festival each year, generally September. This attracts thousands of visitors from as far away as Japan, Russia, the United States and Argentina) The festivities include boat racing, parachuting, garden fêtes, oyster eating and Guinness drinking – all in the name of fun, revelry and charity.
The historic Parish Church dedicated to Saint Malachy is one of the finest examples of Gothic Revival architecture. It was built by the 1st Marquis of Downshire between 1760 and 1774, in the hope that the church would become the cathedral of the diocese of Down. In addition to its imposing setting, it boasts two 18th century organs, a peal of ten bells and a number of works by notable craftsmen of the era, including the Colours of the County Down Battalion of Carson's Ulster Volunteers. Today it is a vibrant parish in the Church of Ireland Diocese of Down and Dromore
Hillsborough is (in somewhat exaggerated terms) said to be the birthplace of the United States – due to a disastrous meeting that took place between Benjamin Franklin and Lord Hillsborough (then the acting Secretary of State for the Colonies) in the early 1770s. They are reported to have hated each other at first sight and, on leaving three days into a week-long visit, Franklin returned home to convince the dissident colonists he represented that there was no alternative but to initiate immediate revolution. The 'Declaration of Independence' in July 1776 followed shortly after Franklin's return.

The State Rooms are open to the public but photography is not permitted inside the building. You can also walk around the gardens and the lake.

Pictures from the Sheffield Flood (25/06/2007), from outside the Sheffield Wednesday (SWFC) ground on Penistone Road North. DeeJayOne presents a Sheffield Guide short video. The River Don was some 10-or-so foot higher than normal and was filtering out underneath the SWFC south stand, in turn flooding onto the road, which then immersed abandoned cars. Various angles of the flooding on that road at it's worst on the day.

On 25 June, Sheffield suffered extensive damage as the River Don over topped its banks causing widespread flooding in the Don Valley area of the city. A 13-year-old boy was swept away by the swollen River Sheaf, a 68-year old man died after attempting to cross a flooded road in Sheffield city centre, and several cattle were washed away, found up to 3.5 miles (5.6 km) across fields in some areas of cultivated land. The Meadowhall shopping centre was closed due to flooding with some shops remaining closed downstairs until late September and Sheffield Wednesday's ground Hillsborough was under 6 feet (1.83 m) of water. A number of people were rescued by RAF helicopters from buildings in the Brightside area, whilst in the Millhouses Park area to the southwest of the city the River Sheaf overtopped its banks causing widespread damage. There was also widespread flooding in Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham with much of these towns cut off.
By 26 June, the waters in some parts of Sheffield and the surrounding area receded, and over 700 villagers from Catcliffe, near Rotherham's Ulley reservoir were evacuated after cracks appeared in the dam. Emergency services from across England pumped millions of gallons of water from the reservoir to ease the pressure on the damaged dam, and the nearby M1 Motorway was closed between junctions 32 and 36 as a precaution.
On 27 June, the Army moved into the Doncaster area after the River Don overtopped its banks and threatened the area around what was Thorpe Marsh Power Station. A man was incorrectly reported missing near the village of Adwick le Street near Doncaster.
About the floods: June was one of the wettest months on record in Britain. Average rainfall across the country was 5.5 inches (140 mm); more than double the June average. Some areas received a month's worth of precipitation in 24 hours. It was Britain's wettest May--July since records began in 1776. July had unusually unsettled weather and above-average rainfall through the month, peaking on 20 July as an active frontal system dumped more than 4.7 inches (120 mm) of rain in southern England.
Civil and military authorities described the June and July rescue efforts as the biggest in peacetime Britain. The Environment Agency described the July floods as critical and expected them to exceed the 1947 benchmark.

Banbridge is a town in County Down, Northern Ireland. It lies on the River Bann and the A1 road and is named after a bridge built over the River Bann in 1712. Banbridge is situated in the civil parish of Seapatrick and the historic barony of Iveagh Upper, Upper Half.
The town began as a coaching stop on the road from Belfast to Dublin and thrived from Irish linen manufacturing. The town is the headquarters for Banbridge District Council. The town's main street is very unusual, and rises to a steep hill before levelling out. In 1834 an underpass was built as horses with heavy loads would faint before reaching the top of the hill. It was built by William Dargan and is officially named 'Downshire Bridge', though it is often called The Cut.
Banbridge, home to the Star of the County Down, is a relatively young town, first entering recorded history around 1691 during the aftermath of the struggle between William III and James II. An Outlawry Court was set up in the town to deal with the followers of James. Banbridge has staged an annual busking competition and music festival called Buskfest since 2004. Performers often travel long distances to participate. The competition closes with an evening concert composed of performances by world-famous artists. Recently, Banbridge has been twinned with Ruelle in France.
Like the rest of Ireland, the Banbridge area has long been divided into townlands, whose names mostly come from the Irish language. Banbridge sprang up in a townland called Ballyvally. Over time, the surrounding townlands have been built upon and they have lent their names to many streets, roads and housing estates. The following is a list of townlands within Banbridge's urban area.
Near the town lie the ancient Lisnagade Fort, Legannany Dolmen, and the Loughbrickland Crannóg, constructed around the year 500 AD. Thomas Ferguson & Co Ltd factory tours. The town is situated a short distance from the Brontë Homeland in Rathfriland- the church at which Patrick Brontë preached often hosts musical performances by well-known artists, e.g. Eddi Reader.
Banbridge is on the A1 main road between Belfast and Newry. The nearest railway station is Scarva on Northern Ireland Railways' Belfast–Newry railway line, about 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Banbridge. Banbridge had its own railway station from 1859 until 1956. The Banbridge, Newry, Dublin and Belfast Junction Railway opened Banbridge (BJR) railway station on 23 March 1859.

In this video I have a walk around Sheffield City Center, I have tried to use the active track in the video using hyper-lapse and also in normal mode some work some didn't as you may see.
I did do a motion lapse but that was one for 10 minutes at 10secs, It certainly needs to be longer than that.
I haven't put any music on as I wanted you to hear what it's like on a busy day in Sheffield.

The Fletchers Bakery Fire ???? | Hillsborough, Sheffield. // The DeeJayOne Sheffield Guide
Video footage of the fire at Fletchers Bakery, Hillsborough, Sheffield on Sunday 16 July 2006, from DeeJayOne. The fire burned for hours from around 9am. ???? Police blocked off most of the close-up areas around the incident and crowds gathered, but some decent footage still exists. In the footage you can see Sheffield Wednesday football ground from the Kop side. Huge plumes of smoke fill the sky over Wadsley Bridge, Wisewood, Foxhill, Parson Cross & Southey Green.

Fletchers Bakery on Clay Wheels Lane opened as a small bakehouse in 1923 and grew to a firm employing 650 people in 2006 when it suffered a catastrophic fire in July of that year. About 65 firefighters tackled the fire, which started on Sunday morning.
Northern Foods owned the bakery. The site had been put up for sale earlier in the year as a going-concern.
Director of communications Hilary Baker said: It is obviously a very unfortunate event but it is too early to say what the effect on the company will be.
All of the bakery's 150 workers who were on site at the time of the fire had escaped injury, she said.
One worker told BBC Radio Sheffield how the incident began.
One of the lads who works on the plant saw a couple of sparks from a cooler and then it just exploded, she said.
Somebody said get out quick and they just ran and got out.
Fire crews remained at the scene on Monday morning to damp down the wreckage.
A South Yorkshire fire service spokesman said the premises had been almost completely destroyed.
It will be very difficult for the business to resurrect itself, certainly in the short term, he said.
During the fire, plumes of thick black smoke billowed hundreds of feet into the air over a large area around the bakery in Clay Wheels Lane, northern Sheffield.
The fire service has advised anyone suffering nausea or breathing problems after inhaling smoke to go to hospital.
A Rolf Harris mural was apparently destroyed in the fire too. The Rolf painting - an Aussie outback scene looking across a field guided by a battered fence down the left, and an overgrown tree (in predominently orange and brown with white highlights) was bought from auction of Sheaf Valley Baths in Sheffield City Centre (where the work was originally displayed) for around £1000 bo Paul Fletcher who subsequently had it hung on the premises of Fletchers Bakery at Hillsborough. When the building went up in flames during the devastating fire apparently so did the painting .
