Himeji Castle (姫路城 Himeji-jō) is a hilltop Japanese castle complex located in the city of Himeji, Hyōgo, Japan. The castle is regarded as the finest surviving example of prototypical Japanese castle architecture, comprising a network of 83 buildings with advanced defensive systems from the feudal period. The castle is frequently known as Hakuro-jō or Shirasagi-jō (White Egret Castle or White Heron Castle) because of its brilliant white exterior and supposed resemblance to a bird taking flight.
Himeji Castle dates to 1333, when Akamatsu Norimura built a fort on top of Himeyama hill. The fort was dismantled and rebuilt as Himeyama Castle in 1346, and then remodeled into Himeji Castle two centuries later. Himeji Castle was then significantly remodeled in 1581 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who added a three-story castle keep. In 1600, Tokugawa Ieyasu awarded the castle to Ikeda Terumasa for his help in the Battle of Sekigahara, and Ikeda completely rebuilt the castle from 1601 to 1609, expanding it into a large castle complex. Several buildings were later added to the castle complex by Honda Tadamasa from 1617 to 1618. For over 400 years, Himeji Castle has remained intact, even throughout the extensive bombing of Himeji in World War II, and natural disasters such as the 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake.

JAPAN'S HIMEJI CASTLE - UNESCO World Heritage! | Japan VLOG Tag 3

Japan's BLACK CASTLE|Day 74 - Shimane
Matsue Castle (松江城, Matsuejō) is one of only a dozen original castles in Japan, meaning that its main tower has survived to this day through fires, earthquakes and the anti-feudal demolitions of the Meiji Period. It is sometimes called the black castle after its darkly-colored, austere exterior.
Matsue Castle was completed in 1611, a few years after the last decisive battle of feudal Japan. In 1638, the fief and castle were reassigned to a branch of the Matsudaira clan, relatives of the ruling Tokugawa. Perched atop a hill and surrounded by a moat and thick walls, the castle was built to withstand a war, though, thanks to the timing of its construction, it never actually saw a battle. Major renovation works were undertaken in the 1950s to further preserve it, and the interior of the main keep now houses a museum displaying period arms and artifacts.
Izumo Taisha (出雲大社) is located in the city of Izumo in Shimane Prefecture, a one hour train ride west of Matsue. It is one of Japan's most important shrines. There are no records of exactly when Izumo Taisha was built, but it is often considered the oldest shrine in Japan, being already in existence in the early 700s as revealed by the nation's oldest chronicles.
Izumo used to be ruled by a powerful clan in pre-historic times, and the region plays a central role in Japan's creation mythology. The main deity (kami) enshrined at Izumo Taisha is Okuninushi no Okami. According to the creation myths, Okuninushi was the creator of the land of Japan and the ruler of Izumo. He also became known as the deity of good relationships and marriage. Visitors consequently clap their hands four times instead of the usual two times during their prayers: twice for themselves and twice for their actual or desired partners.

The area within the middle moat of the castle complex is a designated Special Historic Site and five structures of the castle are also designated National Treasures. Along with Matsumoto Castle and Kumamoto Castle, Himeji Castle is considered one of Japan's three premier castles. In order to preserve the castle buildings, it is currently undergoing restoration work that is expected to continue for several years. ( Wikipedia )
High on Himeji Castle, Japan
We jumped on the JR Line train for our next wonder the - Himeji Castle. Himeji is the largest and most visited castle in Japan, it was registered in 1993 as one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the country. It is regarded as the finest surviving example of prototypical Japanese castle architecture, comprising a network of 83 buildings with advanced defensive systems from the feudal period. In order to preserve the castle buildings, it underwent restoration work for several years, also removing decades of dirt and grime, restoring the formerly gray roof to its original brilliant white color. An estimated 2,860,000 have visited the castle since its reopening to the public in March 2015.
History:
When the han feudal system was abolished in 1871, Himeji Castle was put up for auction. The castle was purchased by a Himeji resident for what would have been about $2,258 USD. The buyer wanted to demolish the castle complex and develop the land, but the cost of destroying the castle was estimated to be too great, and it was again spared. For over 400 years, Himeji Castle has remained intact, even throughout the extensive bombing of Himeji in World War II, and natural disasters such as the 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake.
Stats:
From east to west, the castle complex has a length of 950 to 1,600 m (3,120 to 5,250 ft), and from north to south, it has a length of 900 to 1,700 m (3,000 to 5,600 ft). The complex has a circumference of 4,200 m (2.6 mi).It covers an area of 233 hectares (2,330,000 m2 or 576 acres). Main Keep at the center of the complex is 46.4 m (152 ft) high, standing 92 m (302 ft) above sea level. Together with Main Keep, three smaller subsidiary keeps form a cluster of towers. Externally, the keep appears to have five floors, because the second and third floors from the top appear to be a single floor; however, it actually has six floors and a basement. It included three moats, one of which—the outer moat—is now buried. Parts of the central moat and all of the inner moats survive. The moats have an average width of 20 m (66 ft), a maximum width of 34.5 m (113 ft), and a depth of about 2.7 m (8.9 ft).
Film/TV:
The castle has been featured extensively in foreign and Japanese films, including the 5th James Bond movie You Only Live Twice (1967) staring Sean Connery, and Ran (1985). In the television miniseries Shōgun (1980) it served as a stand-in for feudal-era Osaka castle, which has lost the surrounding fortifications.

Himeji Castle (姫路城, Himejijō), also known as White Heron Castle (Shirasagijo) due to its elegant, white appearance, is widely considered as Japan's most spectacular castle for its imposing size and beauty and its well preserved, complex castle grounds. The castle is both a national treasure and a world heritage site. Unlike many other Japanese castles, it was never destroyed by war, earthquake or fire and survives to this day as one of the country's twelve original castles. The castle recently underwent extensive renovation over several years and was fully re-opened to the public in March 2015.

JAPAN TRAVEL: HIROSHIMA/HIMEJI! DAY 14
Very big and full day of travel. First we took the bullet train west to the very tragic and moving city of Hiroshima - site of wartime obliteration via A-Bomb. We took in the museum, left feeling spent, and headed for an okonomyaki lunch.
Then, with literally seconds to spare, we got a train to Himeji to go and visit the sensational 1600s castle there; site of many a Hollywood film.
Moving day and historically impressive day.
We ate:
Okonomyaki (Hiroshima style) at Okonomimura
Monaka stuffed with red beans and macha ice cream and Hirashaya

It also might be the origin for the movie Ringu or The Ring depending if you seen it in America. I hope you enjoy this view into Himeji-jo. I really liked the defense of the castle. About Yukendoit.
Welcome! What you are looking at is a former Universal Studios, Halloween Horror Night, Walt Disney World actor/worker youtuber here. I really want to show the world to you! I was pretty inspired by Adamthewoo to get out and start making videos, and now I've left America to do just that. Now I'm out in Osaka, Japan. Living daily life in Japan. But I make adventure videos of exploring strange Japanese locations, theme parks like Universal Studios Japan, and generally showing off life as an American Abroad Jvlogging in Japan. As well I like to make Jvlogs about life in Japan. As I am a former scareactor at Halloween Horror Nights in Florida, I am very interested in the strange side of Japanese culture. Ghosts, Yokai, the Japanese equivlent of Oujia boards, abandoned Japanese buildings, and Japanese haunted houses like the one at Fuji Q Highland it's the longest one in the world!
Why the name Yukendoit? Well I think that you can do it! I'm currently teaching English in Japan and I love it. Patreon patreon.com/yukendoit
