Herbert L Foss Hingham Terminal Dedication June 3, 2017
The Town of Hingham dedicated the newly opened State Transportation Facility / Ferry Terminal in the Hingham Shipyard in honor of Seaman Herbert L. Foss, on Saturday, June 3rd, 2017.
The town unveiled a magnificently crafted bronze bust of Seaman Foss created by Susan Luery, a nationally known artist and sculptor with ties to Hingham, who also created the bronze artwork at the entrance of the Hingham Public Library.
This event is the culmination of several years of planning and efforts by countless people and organizations who have worked collaboratively with Town and State government to appropriately honor the deeds and life of a great American patriot and town citizen.

The Hingham High boys hockey team won its first Super Eight title Sunday, beating mighty Catholic Memorial, 1-0, in a riveting Division 1A state final at TD Garden. The Harbormen rode a first-period power play goal by leading scorer Tim Driscoll and some inspired goaltending by junior Derek McInnis to a win that sent the huge, red-clad Hingham cheering section into a frenzy at the final horn. Hingham (21-3-3) joins Reading (2008) as the only public school champions in the 20-year history of the Super Eight. Questions and Comments
The Hingham School Committee encourages community engagement and welcomes questions and comments as agenda items are discussed at the meeting. In addition, we have set aside up to fifteen minutes at the beginning of this meeting for comments or questions that fall under the purview of the School Committee and are not already on tonight's agenda. If any guests wish to speak, please come to the microphone, state your name and address, and address your comments to the Chairperson. Comments will be limited to 3 minutes per speaker and must relate to topics within the scope of responsibility of the School Committee. As established by the Massachusetts General Laws, the responsibilities of the School Committee are to (1) select and to terminate the Superintendent, (2) review and approve budgets for public education in the district, and (3) establish educational goals and policies for the schools in the district. Speakers are encouraged to present their remarks in a respectful manner and to consider the privacy interests of others. The public comment period is not a time for debate or response to comments by the School Committee. Attitude of Gratitude: Preventing Drunk Driving at Hingham High School??
I am home visiting my folks in Hingham, MA before heading to a conference in Boston. I truly had a blessed childhood. At the time (circa1986) my High School had the highest number (percentage) of teachers that had graduated from Harvard University, anywhere in the country! Not sure of the current stats but i DO know that Hingham is one of those towns and people strive to live in and new or soon-to-be parents will beg, steal and borrow to get into because the Hingham School system is arguably one of the Best public school systems in the state... possibly in the country and equal to or better than many private school. I definitely got a great education in High School (and University as well for that matter)... interestingly enough, my English teacher was Judge Rehnquist's daughter. She was a total rock star teacher... aaaand sadly, like most 17 year old males at some point in their growing year(s), I had a crush on an older women that distracted me from doing the things I SHOULD have done... like homework :-/
Upon reflection, I was surrounded by and had presented to me soooo many amazing opportunities that I didn't take advantage of... and of Course, once again, it is *proven* that Hindsight is, in fact, 20/20... But, THANK YOU, Ms. Anna Rehnquist. Its because of YOU that I became attracted to brilliant, beautiful, older women... well, until I got old myself...
Now I like young ones ;-) HA!

Lightning strike: Tampa Bay drafts player from Hingham
The Tampa Bay Lightning picked Matt Marshall of Hingham and Noble & Greenough School in Dedham in the fifth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
The 18-year-old forward was the 150th selection overall.
The point of transferring to Noble & Greenough from Hingham High School was to attract the attention of Division 1 college hockey programs.
That the move also brought Matt Marshall to the attention of National Hockey League scouts was an unexpected, exciting bonus.
That was definitely pretty cool, said Marshall, the proud owner of the No. 63 rating among North American skaters as determined by NHL Central Scouting, which tracks and ranks prospects world-wide for the 30 NHL teams.
Marshall, a forward, wasn't thinking about the possibility of an NHL career much more than the next player last summer.
The 2006 Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic selection, who had emerged as an offensive force for MIAA Super-8 entrant Hingham, wondered more about how his move to the prep/private level would work out.
Three other N & G players are on Central Scouting's list. But Marshall, who scored 14 goals and 24 points in 27 games, ended up ranked ahead of the two other Nobles forwards. (Goalie John Muse came in at No. 22 of the 30 North American netminders ranked.)
Hingham High sailors at Volvo Race in Boston
Twelve members of the Hingham High School Sailing Club all got to participate in a regatta in Boston Harbor on Saturday.
Coach Kim Doble said the team ended up eighth out of 12 teams in the New England Scholastic Sailing Associations O'Day Qualifiers.
The international Volvo Ocean Race organization hosted the races along with Buckingham Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge and Boston Latin School
This ODay race is held every year but they were able to have it in Boston Harbor this year because it was the kickoff event of the Volvo race, Doble said. The Volvo racing teams arrived in Boston Sunday morning.
